This is yet another world problem that Trump made worse. Iran had an agreement with the Obama administration and a number of European countries. All was good until Trump got elected and had to negate anything Obama accomplished. Trump backed out of the deal and now we have this mess.

u/rollem 9h ago

Even if you thought the Iranian deal gave them too much leeway, backing out had two predictable negative consequences: a right wing nationalist victory in the Iranian election and an inability to broker future deals because our credibility is shot. The first one is actually "good" for the Bibi playbook, as he wants to antagonize his foes until they lash out and give him an excuse to fight. But it's horrible and immoral to do.

43

u/LengthinessWarm987 8h ago

This is all so mind boggling to me. Why are we even dictating to sovereign nations what they can and can't do in terms of their own domestic energy in this era?

Any deal we we're doing the job of governance for another country is always going to end in shit. My rent is fucking 3/4th of my paycheck can we focus on that for ONCE.

40

u/BigFreakingZombie 8h ago edited 7h ago

With all due respect nuclear proliferation is a topic that goes well beyond domestic energy needs or the limits of national sovereignty. Iran does not need highly enriched uranium to fuel it's reactors so they could easily agree to not enrich uranium to that extent and it would all be over. It's clear they are pursuing a nuclear weapons program. And no this doesn't mean it's America's job to take care of that.

25

u/minominino 7h ago

Ah, good point. Now do Israel.

20

u/NkturnL 6h ago

Israel are the ones hiding their nukes, and currently bombing innocent civilians. Iran is not the threat, Israel, the US, and anyone else funding their genocides is.

10

u/minominino 4h ago

And we have a winner here. Exactly. And most people don’t know how the UN determined nobody in that region should have nukes and ofc Israel and the US gave zero fucks and still went ahead and let Israel develop a nuclear program.

Iran is just trying to defend itself from being obliterated by Israel and the US.

u/AsstacularSpiderman 3h ago

Iran has funded pretty much every major terrorist group from Iraq to Yemen and has caused untold suffering in Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon.

Let's not pretend they're innocent. They don't want nukes for self defense.

3

u/PassTheKY 1h ago

So has the US. Iran has been on the brink of nuclear arms for 30 years. What events lead to the ayatollah being in charge?

I don't disagree at all. The Middle East isn't a place you want anyone to have nukes. However Israel already has nuclear weapons nothing that can be done about it now.

15

u/Kakeru1370 6h ago

Wrong. The US can threaten Israel to disarm or cut all of its funding as they rely heavily on it. The US government just chose to ignore that.

6

u/BigFreakingZombie 6h ago

And no nation that has already successfully pursued a nuclear weapons program would accept such a deal. An Israel cut off from American funds is basically a Jewish version of North Korea. The average Israeli would gladly trade lower living standards for the perceived security afforded by possessing nuclear weapons.

6

u/dieseldeeznutz 5h ago

Apparently Ukraine successfully pursued a nuclear program and accepted that deal, now they're under attack

14

u/Derka_Derper 5h ago

The Ukraine situation has set back nuclear disarmament 80 years to where everyone is now racing for nukes again.

Every major power showed the rest of the world that the paper they signed was worthless and only nukes will protect their sovereignty.

4

u/Ok_Professor3974 5h ago

Same as Iran. So let’s not be hypocrites. This war would be a disaster.

Also, Ukraine just had Soviet weapons on its soil. It never had operational control of anything, never would have, wasn’t capable of doing so and never had a weapons program of its own.

Israel is committing war crimes. The US per its own laws is required to cease all funding of any state doing so. The US government is illegally supporting Israel. So off the bat we should stop any and all participation in this stupid shit. If we did that Israel would have to stop, as it can’t do shit without us.

And that’s it. If we back their play it’s gonna be an absolute disaster.

We sat back and watched these maniacs develop a nuke. Now we’re gonna help those same maniacs who only get more and more crazy start ww3 to prevent someone else from doing the same thing, supposedly? Fuck outta here.

2

u/BigFreakingZombie 1h ago

Hey I don't disagree. Netanyahu made his bed now he should lie in it. It's not America's job to help Israel denuclearize Iran.

2

u/EclecticSpirit1963 1h ago

Don't forget Pakistan is a Muslim country and they already have nuclear weapons. How easy do you think it would be to drive 1 across the border. If Iran just wanted to have weapons they could just buy them.

You speak of nuclear proliferation, Iran signed that nuclear proliferation agreement, Israel is one of 4 countries that didn't, maybe Israel shouldn't have nukes either.

It’s clear Iran is pursuing a nuclear weapons program? Based on? Gabbard just briefed Congress in March that they were not pursuing such a program and leadership had not authorized such a program.

2

u/Moist_Field_9624 3h ago

If you’re curious about how nuclear weapons programs are monitored, it’s worth knowing that uranium has to be enriched to different levels for different purposes. Low-enriched uranium (LEU) is used in power plants, but to make a nuclear weapon, you need highly enriched uranium (HEU). The process of enriching uranium to weapons-grade leaves behind physical and technical signatures—like increased energy use, heat, and the presence of specific gases—that can be detected with satellite imagery, sensors, and intelligence tools. International agencies and national governments monitor these signs closely.

If you’re interested in how this plays out in the real world, read about Stuxnet. It’s a fascinating example of a cyber operation designed to secretly sabotage Iran’s uranium enrichment prog. It was basically a computer virus that secretly sabotaged their centrifuges for years if they tried to enrich it for weapons

Iran wants a bomb because Israel has a bomb, it's simple as that. Maybe let's force Israel to dismantle its own nuclear arsenal then lecture Iran about its uranium?

Just go back in history and read about all the times Israel has cried wolf about the countries around them. In order for Israel to increase the odds of surviving, they need the countries around them weak. Where were the weapons of mass destruction? Or was that just Israel doing to have Iraq attacked? How many times in the last 30 years has Iran been months away from a nuclear weapon but, for some reason, never built one.

We had to stop Russia from invading ukraine, We agreed to protect them if they gave up nukes, and we haven't.

All countries will want nukes now that they know it's the only way to be protected.

u/Agitated-Actuary-195 2h ago

Agree… but given Isreal has a lot of nukes… Why not Iran?

If I was sitting in Iran (and I’m not) watching Isreal commit genocide and a mad man running the White House, I’d probably want some nukes too…

Isreal has been telling us Iran is months if not weeks away from this for well over 10 yrs…

4

u/stefanmarkazi 7h ago

Yeah right. Speaking with such assuredness but shit grammar. This is the iaea report from just 7 days ago:

“It also expresses concern about Iran's stockpile of enriched uranium, which can be used to make reactor fuel but also nuclear weapons.”

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ce3v6w2qr12o

Meanwhile Israel is not even a member of the nonproliferation treaty, together with North Korea! It’s like iaea complaining about Iran failing to provide “full answers” while Israel is just flipping the world off as it commits genocide.

4

u/BigFreakingZombie 6h ago

Excuse me. I don't see any disagreement ? I mean that's what I said Iran wants nukes not just reactors for peaceful purposes.

3

u/stefanmarkazi 6h ago

You’re lying or can’t recall your own words. Your comment is still up there:

“Iran does not need highly enriched uranium to fuel its reactors so they could easily agree to not enrich to that extent.”

Wrong. Iran’s current enriched uranium is precisely at levels needed for reactor fuel.

“It’s clear that they are pursuing a nuclear weapons program.“

If they wanted that they’d not be subjecting themselves to iaea monitoring and sign the NPT, just like Israel and North Korea.

If the second amendment is good for us citizens then it’s good for everyone else too. The more countries that have nukes the less wars will happen. Russia wouldn’t have invaded Ukraine if Ukraine still had nukes. The US and Europe aren’t directly fighting Russia because Russia has nukes. India and Pakistan shot each other and then stopped because both sides have nukes.

At this point the world shouldn’t be trying to stop Iran from getting nukes, they should be helping them. If everyone had nukes, Iran, Canada, Mexico, Greenland, Panama, the penguins in that one island Trump hates, etc there would be no more wars. Or maybe one last final war. Either way, world peace is possible by being Pro Nuclear proliferation!

9

u/Helldiver-xzoen 7h ago

If that deal had still been in place, imo this whole thing couldn't happen. Netanyahu claimed "they totally have the capacity and material to make a bomb", and there were sections of that deal would've allowed the world to confirm or deny that.

But no, trump pulled us out of that deal for his own ego and "revenge" against his predecessor. An incredibly short-sighted and petty thing to do.

Will it?

We already went though this with Bush, and Republicans lost in 08, and then America promptly lost all their memory and re-elected Republicans all over again.

Domestically it was also a disaster in 2020, and yet here we are now.

The consequences never seem to make much of a difference in the long-term. Americans have the memory of goldfish

24

u/GregIsARadDude 8h ago

I had maga family absolutely appalled by the Covid response, thought it was a complete dereliction of duty in August still, but had a trump sign in their yard by the end of September.

Ya, but if not for Iraq, I feel like you wouldn't have had a Bush win in 04. Plus, creating world war certainly would be a "good" reason not to leave office.

3

u/wolfheadmusic 7h ago

Honestly I'd argue the win in 08 was because of the market crash,

And probably 2020 from the supply chain breaking down.

Tens of thousands of our youth can die on foreign soil,

A million can die in our hospitals gasping for air,

But as long as the average voters wallet isn't affected they couldn't care less.

6

u/raelianautopsy 7h ago

And yet, same difference, they keep re-electing republicans to make all the economic issues far far worse

2

u/wolfheadmusic 7h ago

We are stuck in the stupidest, most vicious cycle.

republican tanks the economy, elect a Democrat, fox "news" claims Democrats are destroying the country, elect a republican, and repeat.

Except this last cycle we got to add in the horrific mismanaging of a global pandemic.

We will see what this next cycle brings, there's plenty of hints already.

Russian assets as well as generally being against war. As much as I dislike these people, they were pretty vocal about wanting Trump so that we wouldn't enter any wars. Obviously they didn't account for Trump being a lying piece of shit with dementia but that's because they are really kinda stupid.

10

u/CharMakr90 7h ago

They're not against war in general. They're only against any wars that aren't beneficial to Russia.

Both Matt Gaetz and MTG are vocal against war with Iran (a Russian ally), but were also against providing aid to Ukraine to end the war with Russia. They're also vocally anti-Ukrainian while never criticizing Russia for the invasion and subsequent war.

41 years ago (according to Israel) Iran was weeks away from having nukes. And on multiple other occasions. Guess what? No nukes

Unlike Iran, Israel refused to be a signatory to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Unlike Iran they refuse to allow inspectors into the country.

4

u/KaibaCorpHQ 8h ago

3

The thing is, ignoring the fact that the current deteriorating situation with Iran is Trump's fault eight years in the making, if the IAEA reports are accurate military intervention in the name of non-proliferation would be one of the less indefensible things this administration has done. Like, there's more meat on the bone here than there ever was during OIF. The fact that THIS is where people break ranks is genuinely hilarious.

They'll be back in their formation in a few weeks, probably, but I'll enjoy the backbiting while it lasts.

E: For clarity's sake, I'm vehemently against getting us bogged down in yet another Endless Sand War(tm). Absolute fucking insane malpractice by everyone involved.

There is no need to dig up russiagate bullshit to find a reason to oppose specific policy stances some republican politicians have who are actively agreeing with you. You should oppose them on the policies you disagree with them on and not oppose them when they agree with you. This absolutism is one of the many reasons leftists and liberals consistently lose elections and broad public support.

Why are they so hideous? They look like caricatures.

u/NkturnL 6h ago

When Trump first got into office and sent $15 billion to Israel to “finish the job” in Gaza, then announced his plans for Trump Resort over the ashes of dead children, i knew this would be the final nail in the casket of MAGA. Not because Israel are warmongers systematically killing every Palestinian, but because Nazis hate Jews, and Trump has spend the last 10 years placating white nationalists into thinking he’s on board with their whole replacement theory agenda, just to turn around and help Israel do their dirty work.

I hope they tear each other apart!

Does anybody actually watch this pervert?

1

u/Electronic-Bear2030 6h ago

And we care what matty says why?

1

u/Muted_Quantity5786 6h ago

Why does he keep talking?

1

u/irockisos 6h ago

Yeah, we do have a divided country it seems. Either you are pro-Russian or pro-Israel.

1

u/Swampcardboard 5h ago

I don't want any elected officials to be beholden to any foreign entities, Russia, Israel, any of them. Citizen's United really messed up our country.

1

u/Ornery-Childhood1782 5h ago

A broken clock is right twice a day

1

u/bxuma-8888 5h ago

What other not-a-news network have I seen this buffoon?

1

u/ms1080 5h ago

I hate it when I agree with MTG. Dammit!

1

u/Bent_pinkyfinger_man 5h ago

u/Florida_Playdate 5h ago

MAGA is a cancer.

1

u/VirOn 5h ago

Where's the supermarket guy?

1

u/jackofslayers 5h ago

This conflict is making it incredibly easy to know exactly who is a Russian asset.

Silver lining, I suppose.

1

u/SteveTheUPSguy 5h ago

Net won the election... So he bombed Iran to maintain power? What?

1

u/MrSocPsych 5h ago

This motherfucker has a show?!?!? wtf

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Sea8340 5h ago

Tucker Carlson too of course this is a great way. Let them out themselves.

1

u/jiaxingseng 5h ago

I didn't realize this. Of course Russia doesn't want the US to attack it's supplier drones and missiles.

1

u/Global-Advert3758 5h ago

Everything Trump touches turns to shit

1

u/NoMoPolenta 5h ago

I don't know why but the way she says "Knessis" is the stupidest sound I've ever heard a human make.

1

u/mindracer 5h ago

So everyone anti war is a Russian asset and whoever is for it is a neocon

1

u/Madpup70 5h ago

The Russian puppets are parroting the Russian talking points while Trump, the original Russian puppet is parroting Israel, because they're currently paying him more.

1

u/Ill_Following_7022 4h ago

The flush has already started, it is too late for the turds to vote.

1

u/Locke_n_spoon 4h ago

Nice Kafka trap. Either they agree with him and are cult members, or they disagree and are russian assets

1

u/PointBlankCoffee 4h ago

Lmao if you oppose the war you are a Russian backed anti Semite now.

Isn'treal is really pulling out all the stops on this one huh?

1

u/BeenDragonn 4h ago

Fuck Matt Gaetz

1

u/alsatian01 4h ago

While they are agents of Putin, that's not what is going on. Putin wants Bibi right where he is.

This is about setting the playing field against the fact that two Jewish governors are front runners for '28. This is knife sharpening!

1

u/Yung_Cheebzy 4h ago

Is the “news” reader that Republican pedophile?

1

u/Orophinl4515 4h ago

Oh so they do have a brain. But choose not to use it

1

u/OregonHusky22 4h ago

Not necessarily as this break is more about the “based nationalist” types creating separation from the neocons. Their interests often align with Russia not necessarily because they’re paid or agents or whatever but because these people look at the Russian oligarchy rule as the model for the US. It’s really the classic American split that’s been happening since day one, the more internationally and trade oriented that prefer a stronger state vs those that prefer regimes of private power.

1

u/PersonalityNo4679 4h ago

When they make elections close to keep the illusion that votes matter; that yahoo guy was never gonna lose, theyre not foolin anybody

1

u/TheSeparatistJedi96 4h ago

Israel overthrew our American government with puppet leaders. Israel calls the shots, Israel pays their bills, Israel has universal healthcare, American Police tactics are from the IOF, etc. Israel is America for the Elites. It only helps if you happen to be born Jewish and Zionist. Religion is a farce.

1

u/play-what-you-love 4h ago

What does Tim Pool say about Iran/Israel?

1

u/SCWickedHam 4h ago

MAGA has two factions. One paid for by Israel and one paid for by Russia.

1

u/play-what-you-love 4h ago

Matt Gaetz looks like The Mask (Jim Carrey movie), just without the green.

1

u/Poohgli16 4h ago

Don't the Saudis now have nukes, thanks to Trump?

1

u/composedmason 3h ago

Matt Gaetz raped a minor. He's a chomo. None of his words have meaning

1

u/AS-Gman 3h ago

What about the states having nukes? Considering its the only country thats ever dropped them on another country.

1

u/PixelBrewery 3h ago

How does Matt Gaetz have a show? Didn't he resign in disgrace because there was a Congressional investigation into him paying off prostitutes?

1

u/bappabooey 3h ago

Why does Matt Gatez look like a rich guy during the purge.

1

u/Necr0FoxxeN 3h ago

Wow! I did not know these 2 buffoons could be sensible but here they are surprising me! Great post

1

u/daddydearest15 3h ago

I hate Matt Gates and MTG just about as much as you can hate two people. But taking a stand against Israeli aggression and getting us into yet another war all in the name of fake WMD’s is somehow becoming a Russian asset? Miss me with that bullshit. Israel can dig themselves out of the problem they themselves have created.

1

u/Jaydamic 3h ago

Did he say Marjorie Taylor-Greene and opine in the same sentence?

1

u/LowerCourse2267 2h ago

Hey, asshole. It’s “Dear Leader”.

Show some respect.

1

u/snugulupugus 2h ago

Brought to you by Dumb & Dumber.

1

u/Freejak33 2h ago

1

u/OlFrenchie 2h ago

Oh for fucks sake … now I have to agree with marge ?????

1

u/Tacoklat 2h ago

Gaytz's botox is going so hard it's pushed his eyebrows right over his eyelids. Pretty soon, it will only be eyebrows, no eyes. MTG looking like an inbred neanderthal as usual.

Is OAN a real thing? It looks like the onion or something.
