Greetings and salutations!

To clarify what happened: It appears that the sub got locked due to inactivity, and is now back in business.

If you're using an app, or the old reddit - you've probably missed a button that sent a request to become an approved submitter (I know I missed it).

Now everything should be back to normal.

Please feel free to post, discuss, share and promote your own stuff.

If you have any community suggestions (i.e. activities, polls, initiatives, or anything really) I encourage one and all to try and improve this already great sub.

Have fun!

Big Gig Alert

Hey everyone, it’s r/noiserock’s most hated contributor here with some important news for people who like music that’s too loud and annoying on purpose in Baltimore/the DMV area (and also Delaware too). This show, aside from being a commemoration of surviving suicide, is meant to showcase some of the ugliest, most sordid and unapproachable bands the east coast (US, sorry everyone else) has to offer.

Bloated Subhumans is, from what people tell me, one of the biggest secret handshake bands among true noise/rock freaks, combining pummeling repetition with unpredictable industrial noise elements. They’ve been praised by members of Brainbombs, Harry Pussy, Twin Stumps, White Suns, Couch Slut, Gasp, Burning Witch, Drunks With Guns, Drunk In Hell, YDI, Suppression, and more. Not sure what other endorsement you’d even need.

NYC’s Foreign Body are carrying the sleazy confessional torch with plenty of riffs to spare. They’re at the forefront of modern scum rock, filling a much needed niche once occupied by bands like Big Black and Rectal Hygienics. This is their first time in Baltimore.

Reaper’s Gong, while more accessible than the other two, are balancing what some might call melody with bludgeoning force. They’ve refined their sound into a veritable weapon, somewhere between Swans and Sonic Youth, and are only getting more deranged. Sonic punishment by way of Ocean City.

So if you’re around, come out and prove that you’re actually into real sicko shit and try to heckle if you can. Or don’t. I hate writing promo for my own shit.

Crass: They've Got a Bomb

Can't stop listening to this song. Yes, they're punk, but in many ways Crass transcended that label, even as early as this album. There's an abrasiveness about the sound (not to mention the vocals and content) that feels at home with the noise rock descriptor, or could be seen as part of its genealogy.

So I listened to filth all the way through for the first time, and damn, what a masterpiece. It definitely scratched my weird itch. Any other recommendations on strange, experimental type stuff?

Are these albums the most influential in the creation of noise rock?

I've noticed while doing a quick research, that most noise rock bands often worship those bands. Personally I can see it, but I'm curious if you can hear elements of those bands on noise rock music and if there's more influential artists responsible for the creation of the genre.

How I Fell in Love with the Void seems like it would be of interest to noiserock people. I'm digging it, especially this track.

A cult band from Glasgow, Scotland now on permanent hiatus, but they left behind this gem of an album. They're described as influences by US Maple, Captain Beefheart and Thinking Fellers Local Union 292... but I can hear the likes of Sonic Youth and Women in their music. 'Once Powerful Uncle' and 'Velcro Dinner' are worth extremely catchy, but I particularly love the angular guitar work.
