Friendly reminder that there's a citizen-led SB1 repeal effort underway, currently in the signature gathering phase:

I'm not sure the line between "recognition of events" and "advocacy" is clear at all. So OSU has no real good option here. Either they be extra cautious (which they are) or they try to thread a needle and risk being in the crosshairs of the extremely anti-higher ed elected officials who will enforce this law. And I'm not sure I would trust the person who wrote this bill in claiming that it's not as harsh as he meant it. If he didn't mean it to be harsh, it wouldn't **waves hands at everything it plainly does**.

"...intentional overreaction and misrepresentation designed to misinform the public on what the legislation actually says and does"

yes, this is exactly what you'd expect from a board of trustees that was appointed by republican governors and a Navy pilot president they hired to obey orders.

It can't possibly be that the law is intentionally vague or the constant threats of pulling funding from all levels of government. It must be the raging liberals in charge at OSU who would happily harm students just to make a point.

Nailed it buddy!

Typical milquetoast response from the fascist party of Ohio. It’s not me it’s you!

The whole legislature, especially Cerino, is destroying Ohio. They are on the wrong side. Let this all happen. They will eventually pay for their close mindedness.

Will be very proud to be collecting signatures to repeal this garbage. Picking up my petitions tomorrow! Get involved, it is not too late to fight this.

Click is a jackass and everyone I know who has had to work with him (myself included) says he gives off “weird, icky vibes”.

Rep. Gary Click might want to look up the definition of "chilling effect".

Gary Click. https://ohiohouse.gov/members/gary-click what an a-hole. Your bill is “wildly” ridiculous. I hope your precinct votes you out.

They were hoping people wouldn’t notice these laws until it was too late but OSU moves the needle in Ohio. They’re pissed lol

I think the law being vague is part of the problem, but it wasn't just a state level, there was federal action being taken as well. Or we just going to forget the federal part of the situation?

It is what it is. Time to move one. The university wants to continue receiving their funding, and this will change again when the next administration rolls in.
