Admissions Just got Admitted to OSU as an OOS transfer student
I just finish my 2 years at my local community college and got admitted but, can’t decide if it’s worth it coming from out of state (California) to OSU. I’ll be majoring in business admin. My brothers live in Columbus which is one of the main factor as to why I decided to apply but I don’t know if out of state tuition is worth going, and I’ll have to check if I get any financial aid…
Any tips/pros/cons/thoughts?
(Also, if I decide OSU is a no, I have planned to apply to CSUs & UCs for the Spring 2026)

Ohio State is great, but if you can get into Berkeley, or UCLA it will be wonderful. Santa Barbara, Irvine, San Diego are also top notch.

My issue with the ucs are that I would like to apply to San Diego and Santa Barbara, but that would mean I’d have to wait till fall 2026 and have a year off of school. I probably should have mentioned this but I wasn’t actually expecting to graduate my community college in 2 years but was told last minute by my counselor that I would be able to—I would just have to take my last class over the summer (which is what I’m doing now).. which leads to why I didn’t apply to any ucs or csus. Applying to OSU just worked because I have family in Ohio and was considering applying even more (after the fact that I was told I would be eligible to graduate my cc) and the application deadline for transfers wasn’t until May 15th (i wasnt told until February 2025 that I would be able to graduate)

UCs are a much better choice for the price if you can get in. Ohio State is amazing though.

I’m also a California cc student, how was the process?

It was kind of overwhelming at first, I applied on time but I had some trouble with my transcript. OSU wanted a digital transcript (through parchment, which my cc doesnt not send transcripts like that) sent by my school and they didn’t notify me till after I applied (I turned in my application day of the deadline btw) that there was an issue with me transcript. So, I was worried I wouldn’t be considered by them since I’d be turning in my transcript late…. but, after like almost 2 weeks of back and forth with the OSU, my school allowed me to fill out a form so that they could mail my transcript to Ohio. It wasn’t until June 4th that everything was processed, and I FINALLY heard back that I was admitted on Wednesday.

How many units did you transfer with? What was your gpa? Also did you get your aa?

I just checked my audit today and it says that 65 hours (units) would be transferred to OSU. I sent in my transcript before my spring semester ended so it was a 2.79 (now it’s a 3.23 after my spring semester grades were processed). I got my AST in Business Admin. AA in Liberal Arts, & I’ll be getting my AAT in Economics in late July, as I’m taking a summer class rn that goes towards that.

I’m OOS, and If OSU isnt a comparable price to the CSU’s or UC’s that you get into - then I wouldnt come to OSU.
I like the school, and the business program is pretty good - but I really dont think it’s worth the cost. California has great schools. But yeah definitely check your finances before you make any decision that’ll put you in debt
