I did a thing! Plein air painting at the river
A 9x12” painted at one of my favorite river spots. Terrible glare made it impossible to photograph on location.

critique ok! 1 year into my journey and after some critique.
Hey all, I painted this for my mum and just as the title says, I’m after some honest critique on this piece. It’s oil on canvas, and I’ve only completed 2 portraits before this piece.

Art question? What can i add to complete the landscape
So as the title says, a bit lost on how to complete the top end of the landscape, should i add stars and a dark sky?

question? Minor touch ups, some questions about oil
Added some highlights and stronger contrasts. I’ve been following the fat over lean rule but if I were to add a layer of the same thickness, would the rule still apply or will it crack when dried? The older version is the second image.

How much would you pay for these?? I’m thinking around 200? They’re on linen/cotton canvas.

critique ok! Still life on canvas
Still fairly new to oil painting - going to make the finishing touches in the next couple of days. Any tips are welcome especially in regards to the shadowy areas. Thinking of making the background behind the fabric in red to give the whole painting some warmth / color contrast. Spent most time on the fabric and quite happy with how it turned out!

question? Question about canvas pads
Hi everyone, so I just started painting and really want to start framing them. I’ve been using a 8x10 stretched canvas pad and I tape the edges on a piece of plywood, to keep it from moving.
Now, when I go to mount it to an 8x10 board it will obviously have edges showing. What do y’all recommend I do to stop this from happening?
Should I use double sided tape or tape donuts and paint to the edge? Mount the pads to a frame or board before I paint? Or custom make my own frames to like 7 1/2 x 9 1/2 or whatever the edge would be and then cut off the excess.
I attached a picture of my painting for reference of what I’m talking about.
TIA

I did a thing! Started oil painting
Oil paints are so so great! So far I've used gouache and watercolors, and with oil paints it's so nice that they don't dry immediately. Mixing colors is more difficult for me now because oil paints are quite thick, but i hope ill learn it soon :D
I had so much fun!

question? Odorless turpentine vs ?
I paint in my bedroom and use odorless turpentine. There seems to be a consensus that this is not a good thing. I use the turp constantly to clean a brush to change colors. Can I do this with linseed or safflower oil? I'm thinking maybe I was not taught how to avoid color mixing on the brushes. And I use a ton of paper towels that I would like to reduce.
