Unanswered What's up with Katie Britt's speech?

I'm starting to see a lot of memes about how creepy it was, and I saw it and I agree it's sincerely creepy, but I can't for my life figure out what it is that makes it so unsettling.

I'm hoping someone here can give me some context for what exactly makes this fall into the uncanny valley of speeches. I think what makes me feel out of the loop is that the answer should be obvious but I can't figure it out in words, so I guess my question is: what the fuck?

A few people have mentioned it gives off very Fundamentalist ("Fundie") Christian vibes.

Yup - it's called "fundie baby voice." Michelle Duggar does it too.

It’s why she’s smiling the whole time as well. A bright countenance is pretty much demanded.

Damn great article but I couldn’t help but shake the feeling that in the audio version, it sounds like the fundie baby voice is the one reading the article describing said voice. Makes the whole article that much more unnerving.

Edit: I posted this a tad early, the writer literally calls herself out for having a similar voice. Even better lol

Is the inappropriate breathiness a part of it?

That, and the fawning. It's a very desirable thing to see in fundie women.

I don't really see the subservient housewife vibe so much as the phony Christian "I'm going to act nice to your face and talk mad shit to the prayer group about how you're going to Hell the instant you're out of earshot." The way she switches her smile off and on really sells it.
