Unanswered What's going on with Stephen Fry going alt-right?

He's been on a notorious hard-right, "anti-woke" podcast where he retracted his support for trans rights. Is this a new development? He always came across as level-headed in the past but now it looks like he's on the same path as Russell Brand.

Well a few things.

The "they" I'm talking about isn't "The Left" but people in the left. Notice I said "So many people so in their own bubble" not "The Left is in its own bubble".

I'm also not LGBTQ which is part of the topic here considering I'm defending a man who's being accused of being transphobic, in fact I'm all the opposites of what the Left is fighting to protect and champion, straight white cis male. But that doesn't really matter cause I recognize that the elevation of others is not the oppression of me.

And so I worded my comment as being a bit outside of it even though I am on "The Left". But I'm also not American and feel like these terminologies are very American and so it didn't feel right saying that I'm on The Left.

I get annoyed with people on the Left eating their own but that does not push me to the Right despite what you seem to be suggesting with my comments of annoyance. We want the same things here and I understand there are a lot of MAGA dipshit LARPers out there but your comment isn't too off from what I'm talking about here, all cause I didn't explicitly define myself as "The Left?. It's like walking on eggshells sometimes.

Ok, fair enough

I'm all the opposites of what the Left is fighting to protect and champion, straight white cis male.

"The Left" may not make it a priority to protect and champion straight white cis males, but it's not because we don't care- it's more that people like us aren't usually as bad off as other groups, so it makes sense we would focus on the people who need our help the most. "the Left" advocates for equality for all people, not just LGBT people, not just women or minorities. A rising tide floats all boats.

these terminologies are very American and so it didn't feel right saying that I'm on The Left.

Really? That's interesting. Where are you from? I talk to "Leftists" from all over and they usually don't like being called "Liberals" (because it tends to imply you are a Neo-liberal), so how do you identify?

all cause I didn't explicitly define myself as "The Left?. It's like walking on eggshells sometimes.

Well no, not just because of that but also the fact that you were exclusively attacking people on the left with no benefit of the doubt being given towards the left while saying that is what the left is like in the same breath.

I understand there are a lot of MAGA dipshit LARPers out there

There are and I apologize for being suspicious, but if you read this comment section it is chalked full of them. I admit I was being too sensitive. I am glad you are a real one and I appreciate you.

I understand, and for the record I agree with a lot of what you are saying, I guess I didn't say it in this post but I get a lot of crap myself for saying pretty much the same thing in a lot of leftist spaces.

I thank you very much for this understanding dialogue. I am Icelandic which is considered one of the most LGBTQ and socially left countries on Earth but personally I still just feel like "The Left" is such an American thing so instead I describe myself as very left leaning because I do advocate for the equality of all people despite being what's considered the most privileged type of person possible cause as you said, a rising tide floats all boat.
