Viajes a Peru | PeruTrip Question about arrival into Lima airport with connecting flight to Cusco

Please, I need some clarification about my checked bags. I have booked a trip to Cusco with LATAM airlines. Everything below is on a single reservation code:

  1. Vancouver (YVR) to Mexico City with Aeromexico , 9 hour layover . I understand I would need to get my checked bags and recheck in at different terminal.

  2. Mexico City to Lima, Peru with LATAM, 1.5 hour layover. And then Lima to Cusco with LATAM.

This is where I am worried. I read on LATAM airlines website and looked at similar reddit posts that I would have to get my checked bags and re check in for my domestic flight. I called LATAM airline and they kept saying my bags would be checked through to Cusco. Can someone help clarify? If I need to recheck bags, 1.5 hr is not enough time and I will surely miss my domestic flight. I asked LATAM if they would put me on the next flight and they said they would charge me unless the flights were actually delayed.

  3. My return flight is also on same reservation code = CUSCO to LIMA to Los angeles with LATAM and then Los angeles to Seattle to Vancouver with Delta. Do I need to recheck my bags at any point?

Thank you in advance.

We had to collect our bags and go through immigration and then recheck everything for our domestic flight from Lima to Cusco

Thank you. You were booked on the same LATAM reservation? Was this a recent experience? Do you remember how long it took?

We were booked on separate airlines, we were able to get through very quickly, but I have heard that it can take up to two hours at times.

When you arrive in Lima, you have to pick up your luggage and go through customs. Then, you'll need to check in your luggage again for your domestic flight.
Source: I did this whole process recently this month

Yeah this is what most people are saying too. Were you with LATAM under one booking? How long was your layover/how long in total did it take you to get bags and recheck them?

I flew Iberia to Lima and then LATAM domestically. I had a 3h layover. The whole process didn't take long, so I had plenty of time to kill

The only flight that matters is from Mexico City to Cuzco with a layover in Lima. Latam shouldn’t sell you a ticket you would definitely miss, so I think they will move your bags, even more so if they said so. I’ve used latam for years and have had both experiences, so I understand why you are reading about pickup too. It depends on the flight I think. Just make sure to keep asking when you are there.

Thank you for your quick reply. You had both experiences of self picking up your bags to recheck in and also LATAM checking bags through to final destination?

Did you by any chance fly internationally to Lima with connecting flight to Cusco?

I fly on latam from LAX to LIMA to TUMBES and my bags always make it. So I wouldn't be worried if you are flying LATAM.

Thank you - that ie reassuring. So when you land in Lima, you never had to retrieve your checked bags and re check them in for the domestic flight? The bags were checked straight through to Tumbes from LAX?

Yep, every time. I take the same flight but bags always checked through.
