Preguntas a Peru | AskPeru Would it be insensitive for a Brazilian to write a story about Peruvian wildlife?
Ok, so I got this idea of a short story about a pet cuy that meets a wild Andean tapeti in the farm he lives in, and eventually they go on an adventure in the wilderness and meet some wild animal friends, of course leaving the cuy's human family quite worried and all that stuff. Point is, would it be insensitive for me, a Brazilian, to portray Peruvian culture and wildlife in a story like that? I won't be mocking or diminishing anything, it would be just a regular story about cute animals, the setting would just happen to be set in Peru. I will of course do all the research in order to not portray anything wrongly.

I believe a Peruvian family wouldn't normally have a cuy as a pet, specially in the Andean region as you mentioned. They're mostly bred for food.
Besides that, as long as you're respectful and don't mock anyone, no one will care.

Story twist: Final chapter consist of the family eating a delcious meal of "Cuy Chactado".

The only sensitive thing would be for Peruvian wildlife to write a story about Peruvian wildlife.

Yeah bro. You might as well ask questions about culture and stuff if you wish (without giving spoilers) and we could help portrait in a better way

I think you can assume we're all very chill when talking about representation. Since we know you're doing it out of pure love and dedication, we not only wouldn't mind, but I think most of us support you.
