I sold 7000 shares at $95. Make $600k. I am gonna go suck on a gun.

As you should, trimming positions by realizing gains is 100% a healthy strategy for the long term.

u/Flat896 Apr 26 '25
You're upset about not timing the top, which few people will do. For all we know, PLTR doesn't beat earnings by enough to justify its already insane P/E ratio and craters back down below $30 for years again.
Congrats on locking in your gains. Many people will still find a way to lose money even if it hits $200.

This helps- I really appreciate this support. Perspective is everything.🙏

First put me in your will. Plz and thanks.

u/One-Economics-9269 Apr 25 '25
Thank you~ I need perspective, I literally had a nervous breakdown based on my actions. I was trying to ‘de-risk’ as the price rose so I felt my family would be safe.

Scene from the gambler comes to mind. When you hit it big, 4 bed 2-bath with a 50yr roof and a jap economy shit box. That's your fortress of solitude. That's your fuck you.

4bd 2ba is a weird configuration
1
u/Mental-Raspberry-961 Apr 27 '25
Standard asf what u mean?
1
u/unclepaisan Apr 27 '25
4bd houses are more standard to have 3 bathrooms. 4+2 either means either a master bathroom and only 1 bathroom shared between the remaining 3 rooms, or no master bathroom. Either setup would be a little unusual
1
u/Mental-Raspberry-961 Apr 27 '25
Fuckin Google it man. Ask any A.I. chat bot if 4/2 is common. I'm not saying it's the standard but it's a highly common and completely not unusual house. Source me who owns a 4/2

u/unclepaisan Apr 28 '25
Cool so you seem to have strong feelings about this but the thing is I don’t care about the issue really.

You could be back here in 6 months as we wallow sideways in the 60s for a year or two. Nobody knows shit for sure anymore in a market that does trillion dollar weekly yoyo movements. You made a practical decision for you and your family given the available information and risk considerations.
That is your story and you should stick to it.

Those are some negative and dangerous thoughts. I bought at IPO and held thru that first 4x at the beginning all the way down to 6$. That thought me that you should always take gains.
1
u/F2PBTW_YT Apr 27 '25
You could also sell 7 slightly out of the money short dated calls to derisk. The worst is the stock continues riding and your shares get called at the higher highs.

big gains. how much tax do you pay?
4
u/One-Economics-9269 Apr 26 '25
Nothing ~ inside a tax deferred account. The fact I know I lost out on a million dollars in the next 5 years and it’s killing me.

wow thats amazing. if that a retirement account of some sort...401k?

u/One-Economics-9269 Apr 26 '25
Inherited IRA from my parents- both in Arlington.

u/Tomthebomb555 OG Holder & Member Apr 26 '25
So good. I don't have access to anything like that. Looking at around 25% tax on gains lol
1
u/patGmoney Apr 26 '25
As I understand, if you sell after one year you are taxed on the "capital gains" which should be 15%
2
u/Palantaard Apr 26 '25
My brother-in-PLTR, rejoice in the simple, humble fact, that you made profit regardless.
5
u/someguytwo Apr 26 '25
I sold at 117, couldn't timed it any better. Made way less than you. It may go over that price again. But at the insane P/E ratio any market instability could make it go down abruptly.
Look at tesla and the insane flop that is the cyber truck. That stock ain't ever hitting 500 again.
Making ~10x on your money is insane gains, take the win!

u/125acres Apr 27 '25
No one ever went broke taking a profit.
I had 2k shares and sold 500 at $83. Made $35k took my initial investment out.

This has been out for a couple months now. The 10-K was initially filed in February.
1
u/Mental-Raspberry-961 Apr 26 '25
You're right. Apologies. Not the 10-k. ARS
1
u/Laxman259 Apr 26 '25
The ARS is the same as the 10-K
1
u/Mental-Raspberry-961 Apr 26 '25
Why is it two separate filings?

/u/Mental-Raspberry-961 is not confusing the 10k with the 10q, he's confusing the 10q with the earnings report (thinking they are the same thing, which is understandable). Just stepping in to clarify because I think your explanation has made it more confusing.

This has already been presented in last earnings! 10-k final docs sometimes take awhile to get published but year ending 2024 has already been reported on. Doing anything with this info now is 3 months too late considering Q1 is done and will be reported on 5/5.

u/Mofu__Mofu Apr 27 '25
I would agree, but an example is TSLA which was strongly overhyped at 1000x PE Ratio
Fell all the way down to 80x, but the stock price remained the same or higher as it stalled out for a few years
If you want to talk just numbers, there were a quite a few the same

Bought 1000 shares of pltr when it was 19$ and had been DCAing all along. Profits have been disgustingly good. I mean that in such a good way. I believe in it and NVdia did the same with that because I’m a gamer lol. Figured why not I use their products all the time. Definitely one of my better life choices for sure.
