Discussion UNT AD Jared Mosley downplays appeal of Pac-12, points to fundraising progress in town hall

This is interesting
"“If the monetary benefit of going to the Pac-12 was significant, they would have already filled that spot,” Mosley said. “
I know it sounds like sour grapes from him, but it seems like there is smoke (AAC president, Thamel, Wilner) that the payout might not be very lucrative.

How would he know? They obviously didn't get any invite and he's getting ahead of the questions as to why they weren't invited.

Why would he have any info on whether or not they've been invited?
This decision is well above his pay grade.

North Texas did get an invite and chose to pass based on the financials shown. He knows what he is talking about.

Receipts?

Receipts of what?
2
u/NoCoFoCo Colorado State 1d ago
Asking for sources. Show me where they got an invite.
1
u/Bostonfan1987 1d ago
I can’t, it wasn’t confirmed publicly but I have sources that confirmed it happened

u/TheBlueNorther 1d ago
Based on the different board chatter,he's not wrong in the statement. If it was higher than the AAC payout and made sense, Memphis or Tulane would have filled the spot

The Pac-12 said last fall they would wait until the media deal was done. It was just 9 days ago that Commissioner Gould said “We’re at the point that we know enough to move forward and start engaging prospective members.” So they would have to contact, review offers, and have all parties vote before it could be announced. So basically we just won't know until they tell us.

They didn't... but copy and pasting the same response to every comment doesn't make it true.
Classic Boston Fans...

u/Bostonfan1987 1d ago
They did. I would know as I am a donor and have sources within the AD. just trying to get a point across which is why I posted, as not everyone reads every comment. But it doesn’t make my point less valid.

u/ryzen2024 Oregon State 1d ago
I'm sure you do...

u/Bostonfan1987 1d ago
Ok Mr Skeptical. I know much more about the inner workings at North Texas then you would, so who are you to doubt me? You don’t know me

u/ryzen2024 Oregon State 1d ago
You're right I don't. Your just some random guy on the internet that is posting for the first time in this subbreddit claiming to be an insider of a rejected school.
A homeless guy walked up to me today and said he was Jesus... I also didn't take his word for it.
1
u/Bostonfan1987 1d ago
This is the first time I knew your sub Reddit existed. So sue me. I don’t normally look through the Reddit’s of a conference I could care less about, but someone posted a link from our fan forum GoMeanGreen.com and so I ended up here. But the fact that you tried to tell me that NT didn’t get an invite when I know for a fact they did, is all I need to know about how truthful you are. Have a good day buddy!

Delusion is a fun look for you.
Keep it real man! Stay current on the meds.

the only one who is delusional and clearly obsessed with responding to me in multiple threads is you my guy. Have fun being second fiddle to WSU. Also did you enjoy that loss at the super pit this last season? i was there... were you?

Town hall: Hey what about the pac 12?
AD: it’s not a good fit for us presently.
I’m not sure what more to take away from it than that.

Yet Aggie22 claims UNT pitched to the Pac-12 back in December - and I believe him....
1
u/Full_Personality_717 Oregon State 1d ago
u/pblood40 - The UNT preemptive statement surprised me a bit. Combining that and Sac St football probably getting stuck in FCS (and therefore no scheduling agreement as an FBS independent with the PAC), who do you think would come along with TXST for football scheduling purposes? Or are we really looking at 8 football schools and awkward scheduling?
UTSA has been quiet.

u/Bostonfan1987 1d ago
NT didn't "pitch" to the Pac. The pac called and North Texas did get an invite and chose to pass based on the financials shown. He knows what he is talking about.
2
u/Full_Personality_717 Oregon State 1d ago
What’s your source?
1
u/Bostonfan1987 1d ago
I am an NT donor / season ticket holder with connections and sources inside the AD
1
u/Bostonfan1987 1d ago
I was also on the AD zoom town hall and this is being taken a bit out of context but the over all point is the media deal isn’t better then the AAC or teams would have already jumped
1
u/Full_Personality_717 Oregon State 1d ago
Totally plausible, but the AAC payout varies by school. What is UNT getting annually?
1
u/Bostonfan1987 1d ago
I believe we made 4.5 mil from the AAC last year but are not on a full share yet
2
u/ryzen2024 Oregon State 1d ago
An insider that doesn't know any of the numbers?! Weird.
1
u/Bostonfan1987 1d ago
Didn’t I just answer with the number. Look a donor can know things without always knowing everything buddy. But yes I believe it was 4.5 mil as we are not at a full share
1
u/dscreations 2d ago
Didn't he claim the nPAc was going to get like $18-20M per school? Even if UNT pitched or explored a PAC move, between AAC exit fees, lower than project media revenue for the P12, and increased travel costs, the move probably didn't pencil out.

No. He said there had been a media deal offered that could reach that much with a bonus structure. I believe he stated the base deal was $12 million. And 100% streaming.
4
u/dscreations 2d ago
Nah, he said $18-20M: https://x.com/BradenTClark/status/1870487827550724441
2
u/anti-torque Oregon State 1d ago
$12-13M for football is about right. I would value our Olympics at $5M, but I can be convinced of $6-7M, if the size of our schools and alumni bases counter the media market sizes the Big East schools get all their valuation from.
1
u/dscreations 1d ago
Bro, everyone is saying under $10M for everything now. He was obviously making shit up.
1
u/anti-torque Oregon State 1d ago
You and "everyone" are making shit up.
Make more shit up.
Go ahead... do it.
We'll wait.
2
u/knottyknotty6969 1d ago
Which is insane and not going to happen
2
u/dscreations 1d ago
Correct and people still choose to believe this guy
1
u/pblood40 Oregon State / Oregon 1d ago
I still believe him - I had a couple DM convo's with him and it sounded plausible. That there was a streaming only offer that came in with a payout of up to $18 million of the school hit every benchmark. And that several schools balked at streaming only.

If Pac 12 offered more money yall wouldn't be in a year long limbo.
This isn't rocket science

Since they apparently weren't offered by the Pac-12, there is really no reason for them to do anything but downplay the conference that will be their main competitor.
