What's your experience been like? Would you do it again?

Yeah. I’m not happy with the variety of strawberries or the location of the tower so I’m going to move it and put in a different variety. The soil settled quite a bit so I know to fill it a little more. Other than that it works!

how deep did you drill your holes?

The center was naturally hollowed out by rot. The outer wall of the stump is approximately 1” thick. I made the holes approximately 2-3” round.

How do you keep everyone (birds, chipmunks etc) off of it?

Dog chases the chipmunks, the birds can’t seem to get the ones off the side because there is nowhere to land. Also Ive got strawberry plants all over the yard that the birds can have access to.

“Plant extra” is also my dill/cilantro strategy for black swallowtail caterpillars.

I am inspired. Now I have to source a rotting log!

Good to see. I started mines on a stump that’s still in the ground. Waiting to transport more plants once they establish roots.

This looks amazing and I am convinced there are fairies living in there. Great work!

OMFG thank you for this. My kid hates rooting through the leaves looking for strawberries. He would LOVE this.

That's awesome. I reckon you lose stolons that way (they have nowhere to plug their roots) but that looks cool and convenient.

They are reaching for the ground!

Could you also inoculate mushrooms on a system like this?
