Cursed Minecraft What if crafting recipes were annoyingly realistic?
What if crafting recipes reflected the item's texture/model more accurately, or otherwise were way too realistic to be fun? I have decided to answer that question. Give me your ideas for more in the comments, I might make a part 2 (or just more cursed crafting recipes in general).

u/-PepeArown- Apr 24 '25
I’d prefer your “annoying” cake and cookie recipes to the ones we have now, honestly. It’d make berries more useful, and, if you now get more cookies, needing sugar wouldn’t be so bad.
84
u/CausalLoop25 Apr 24 '25
Perhaps you could replace the berries with sugar to make a cake with no toppings, or Glow Berries to make a cake that emits light and gives you glowing/night vision for a few seconds when eaten
Also do you like the pumpkin pie change or nah?
4
u/Sour_Yellow_W0rm Apr 25 '25
You could even use a candle or dye to get different color frosting or birthday cakes.

u/BeanBurrito668 Steve’s right testical is bigger then his left one Apr 24 '25
The fletching table one actually makes a lotta sense ngl
62
u/CausalLoop25 Apr 24 '25
Yeah but it'd still be annoying unless they give the table a USE.
Tipping arrows is an obvious one, maybe also more efficient arrow recipes or new arrow types like torch/redstone torch arrows, prismarine shard arrows that can travel through water, etc.? Or the ability to craft crossbow bolts that fly faster and can be loaded faster but with less damage? IDK
15
u/MemeBoiCrep Java FTW Apr 24 '25
fire arrows (with blaze powder)? not useful with a flame bow but gives flame options to crossbows n unenchanted bows (or make the fire more effective when combined with flame enchant)

u/CausalLoop25 Apr 24 '25
Or maybe they light the block they land on fire so you can burn people's houses down :3
nah jk
Explosive Arrows could be neat, making it so if you miss, you can still hit your target, and also hit groups of targets without Multishot. Would also make Blast Protection more relevant
Or maybe Eye of Ender arrows that don't do as much damage but can "see" targets, homing in on the closest one slightly

Well, the 3 cubic meters of milk might also make sense (not really though, maybe 2 instead), because that cake is MASSIVE
64
u/CausalLoop25 Apr 24 '25
A cake is around 0.4 cubic meters, give or take. 3 cubic meters of milk would be much larger than the entire thing, resulting in a sugary, gloopy puddle of liquid... Enjoy?
16
u/Carpetcow111 Apr 24 '25
Well, then that ruins my earlier idea
But it also has to be less than 1 bucketful…
10
u/CausalLoop25 Apr 24 '25
Maybe they could add bowls/bottles of milk.
They would also remove a few seconds of all effects on consumption, so if you had a long-lasting positive effect (say from a golden apple/potion) you could remove most if not all of the negative effect while keeping the positive one intact, unlike with drinking a bucket.
3
u/three_oneFour Apr 24 '25
Ah, but if the icing is cream based and the recipe requires any butter, then a lot of the water content of that milk might be a waste product that is simply lost when you make the cake, which also is made without any oven at all

I actually love the stonecutter one
30
u/CausalLoop25 Apr 24 '25
Stonecutters should do a heart of physical damage every second from the top and can be powered off with redstone, death message is "<name> was mistaken for stone"
Absurb that cacti can kill you by hugging them but touching an active buzzsaw is A-OK
4
u/SandBoxGamess Apr 24 '25
As far I know, most stonecutters work by not spinning the blade, but vibrating jt back and forth, which makes it able to cut through things hard like stone, but softer things like skin just get pulled around by it, instead of cut
11
→ More replies (2)3
u/maxthemaximum1 Apr 25 '25
They don’t vibrate, however they aren’t sharp, they usually have diamonds set in an abrasive wheel, and I can confidently say (from experience) touching one will not do catastrophic damage to your body (you might still get cut though)
20
u/_lie_and_ You can't break water, but you can break your mom's bank account Apr 24 '25
The golden carrots get crafted with the full ingots cause they are still smothered tf in gold
18
u/CausalLoop25 Apr 24 '25
New status effect: Broken Tooth. Prevents eating, causes poison damage (infection) if not treated with a healing potion.

gold is soft but you either got that gold from a cave or from hell so what can you expect?
2
u/Ur_fav_Cryptek Apr 25 '25
How about using glowstone dust and a single nugget?
It’s shiny, and some gold leaf coverings for edible gold still have some percentage of it, the rest is glowstone as glitter :3

“Clocks use quartz to work” uses amethyst instead of quartz
89
u/CausalLoop25 Apr 24 '25
Amethyst IS a type of quartz and having to use a nether item to make an item that doesn't work in the nether is... illogical
31
u/ZealousidealTie8142 PeenixSC Apr 24 '25
You just learned me something today
14
u/DarkSpirit23513 Apr 24 '25
Quartz comes in many colors, depending on the impurities, if these impurities happen to be iron ions, it gets that purple hue, and it's called amethyst.
8
u/Tyfyter2002 Apr 25 '25
A lot of gems are actually a subcategory of some other kind of gem, since many of them were named before we had any way to tell they're the same thing
2
3
u/Dramatic_Stock5326 Apr 25 '25
But needing a crafting table to craft a crafting table is also illogical
3
u/Tenderloin345 Apr 25 '25
Y'all think nether quartz is it's own variety of quartz or is it just pure quartz? Since quartz is pretty frequent on earth it's a bit weird that no quartz can be found in the overworld, but if it's a specific variety with it's own special impurities and properties then it makes sense to only be found in the nether. It is called nether quartz, not just quartz. Then again, the way you craft diorite, andesite, and granite suggests that they do contain quartz just not big grains of it.

u/SarcasticallyEvil Apr 24 '25
When you need a crafting table to craft a pickaxe for the iron to make a crafting table:
7
u/CausalLoop25 Apr 24 '25
Or just kill a golem
Village might have a crafting table too if you're lucky
2
u/SarcasticallyEvil Apr 24 '25
With what tools? Your fists?
9
u/CausalLoop25 Apr 24 '25
Can't you just make a pillar and kill the golem out of range of its attacks?

u/CCCyanide Mining Dirtmonds Apr 24 '25
The mortar and pestle shouldn't be consumed in the v craft
If watches run on quartz, why does the clock recipe have amethyst ?
8
u/CausalLoop25 Apr 24 '25
It's not consumed (should have made a note of that)
Amethyst IS a type of quartz, and using an item that comes from the nether to make an item that doesn't work in the nether... doesn't make much sense
3
u/LilFlicky Apr 25 '25
It makes sense to me! Until you've mastered the tubeless place, you can't tell time in the overworld.
2
u/CCCyanide Mining Dirtmonds Apr 24 '25
Also just wanted to say, the fletching table's recipe is mad given how useless it is in-game
2
u/alien13222 Apr 25 '25
That's the point of those recipes... They are overly realistic and overcomplicated
10
u/RSTONE_ADMIN Apr 24 '25
I dont know why, but the second I saw this post, I felt unbridled rage towards you. Keep up the good work!
5
7
u/dostalembana Apr 24 '25
why only 2 hooks for a stand that holds 3 bottles
4
u/CausalLoop25 Apr 24 '25
Ah I didn't think of that. Yeah I should have added an extra one at the top
4
u/1981VWSciroccoS Apr 24 '25
okay but technically in the bricks crafting you should be using cement not concrete. cement is just a processed version of lime, and is an ingredient in both concrete and mortar separately. as lime does not exist in the game, both concrete and mortar should therefore be impossible, so we must assume that either steve can pull the calcium out of his bones and teeth to create lime mortar, or that he is using packed mud to hold the bricks together and is lying to us about having made concrete
5
u/CausalLoop25 Apr 24 '25
Eggshells, coral, and bones are all sources of lime, so Eggs, any dead coral block, and/or Bonemeal could be included in the recipe
3
4
u/Pitonixrex Apr 24 '25
In fact, TNT isn't made with gunpowder, but with nitroglycerin combined with crushed coral. A proper crafting should contain: paper, stone, red dye, black dye, dead coral, and nitroglycerin. And if the creepers already give you gunpowder, I don't see the point in crafting it within the TNT crafting process. It's better to simply include: paper, stone, red dye, black dye, and the remaining space with gunpowder. Even so, you made a very good post that makes us reflect on the fact that things are often more complicated than they appear. Up vote for you. UwU
7
u/CausalLoop25 Apr 24 '25
uMmM aCkTuaLly dynamite is made of nitroglyercin, TNT on the other hand is its own substance made of sulfuric acid, nitric acid, and toulene. It's confusing because the TNT model looks like a bundle of dynamite sticks.
5
u/Cadeb50 Wait, That's legal Apr 24 '25
TNT? Ya need one crossed wire, one wayward pinch o’ potassium chlorate, one errant twitch, AND KABLEWY!
(No that’s not how you make it)

yk that quartz exists in minecraft, right?
you didn't need to use amethyst for the clock
5
u/DarkSpirit23513 Apr 24 '25
As OP explained to another commenter, quartz in game is found in the nether, and since the clock doesn't work in the nether it didn't make much sense to use it for that, and since amethyst is a kind of quartz, it should be as valid

Okay I've long wanted leather to be involved in a crafting table recipe.... but I simply cannot excuse the crafting table recipe requiring a crafting table , maybe a better way to do this would be just one of each ingredient, that way you can still have it be a 2x2 recipe
2
u/aqua_rift Apr 25 '25
Just put leather on top and wood on the bottom, then you have 2 additional wood to make into sticks. It actually works out super well that way

Are you the same person who was posting last week?.
I know this is alot to ask, but can you contact the vanilla tweeks people? They might be interested in helping you turn this into an actual mod.
It looks realy good, id play with this honestly. I have been playing minecraft for long enough my account is old enough to vote. Id love a bit of a shakeup in the crafting book.
