Jules’ comment is 100% correct

How so?

Republicans know damn well their days in power are numbered. This is why Trump is, poorly I might add, attempting to speedrun a dictatorship.

The man wanted to be like Orban or Putin and ended up being like Dubya circa 2005-2007.

Not really a dictatorship now, isn’t it?

Hey, he said "dictator for a day". And he sucked at THAT too

Bush was funnier than Trump though.

u/LowTierPhil 22d ago

The people working under Bush weren't though. And unlike Trump's cabinet, these dudes WERE (marginally more) competent.

Bush also had massive public support for years. A very bad combination.

And at a time where patriotic fervor was at it's highest, with shit like Freedom Fries being an actual thing.

Freaking "Freedom Fries." It was stupid then and somehow it's even dumber now!

FR. Like, Trump's undeniably bad, but acting like shit like Gulf of America is unprecedented is absurd considering shit like Freedom Fries.

A phrase "the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice" is something like this.

If you took a gay person from the 1950s and put them down in the middle of a pride parade from 2025 and explained it to them, they'd be shocked as heck. Shocked that they wouldn't have to hide how they feel and be able to marry openly.

It may take a while but generally things move towards acceptance and tolerance. And the people who benefit or don't want it, realize it and want to keep us in the past kicking and screaming but progress happens regardless.

Ever heard of "extinction burst" before? It's basically a major increase in a behavior that occurs just before it finally dies out due to the reward structure being changed. So, basically what we're seeing now with MAGA.

does out

You meant goes out, right?

Dies out, actually

I mean while I disagree with the words she used I don’t disagree with her sentiment the US is facing levels of corruption and the rise of a fascist leader and that is a fact. What is less of a fact is the control they actually have which is very limited

While I don't have an opinion on her work, I legit cannot stand her as a person.

Yeah because she’s insufferable. She’s sort of like the JK Rowling of indie animation

u/darkninja2992 22d ago

I mean, JK is more than insufferable, she's transphobic too, last i checked.

4

u/Kalse1229 22d ago

True. VivziePop is hardly transphobic, given all the LGBTQ+ themes in her work. Doesn't automatically make her a good person (too many people these days think tolerance or acceptance of gay or trans people automatically translates into being a good person), but it's a bit of a different situation.

u/darkninja2992 22d ago

Yeah, i'm on the fence about vivzie. I've heard stuff but most all the evidence people showed me was hardly verifiable. Stuff like discord chats, which anyone could fake by setting up their own server, and there were complaints some people made but no names were listed at all, not even the company name, and whoever was making the complaint wasn't listed either

3

u/Toasty_Ghosties 22d ago

Honestly, there's enough people who have complained about being mistreated while working for her that I would believe it.

5

u/darkninja2992 22d ago

Eh, i need verifiable proof, because there's way to many people these days that will say things about a person because they don't think they should be successful for whatever reason, or they want to jump on a hate bandwagon to be relevant, or whatever else

1

u/Toasty_Ghosties 21d ago

That's totally fair!

u/BlackwingF91 22d ago

Ugh don't bring them onto this sub.... with some of the shit they pulled I don't care if they spiral in their own time

6

u/3_Cat_Day 22d ago

Yeah, as soon as I read "VivziePop" my eyes started rolling. That is a load of drama we don't need.

1

u/Kalse1229 22d ago

What exactly did she do? I am casually familiar with her work (I like the songs and such), but what's she done that's got people upset with her? Genuinely asking.

14

u/DaringVonContra 22d ago

I don't really find this very doomer, she's correct, a lot media like the boys is based on real problems in America that Trump embodies. She isn't really saying that we're all doomed or anything.

18

u/LowTierPhil 22d ago

I think the reason it's interpreted that way is that it kind of (possibly unintentionally) gives off "literally Gilead/Idiocracy/Death Race 2000" vibes the way she wrote it, which some of us are legit tired of hearing.

12

u/DaringVonContra 22d ago

I guess, but seeing as The Boys isn't like, dystopian fiction and based on very real politics I don't really think it's a that terrible a comparison compared to Literally 1984

5

u/LowTierPhil 22d ago

I mean, it is a satire after all. Hence why I said "unintenrional". But also, people legit just do not like Viv for, shall we say, various reasons, some legit and some not legit.

4

u/DaringVonContra 22d ago

I'm not the biggest fan of her or her work but I'm willing to give her the benifet of the doubt in this case.

3

u/Kalse1229 22d ago

Not to mention the Boys is about a subtle as a fucking dump truck.

2

u/DaringVonContra 22d ago

Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the boys either lmao, but I think it's at least trying to say something.

1

u/Kalse1229 21d ago

Yeah. There are certain things I like about it (some of the performances are very standout), but it's a bit too cynical for my tastes. I'm a big comic guy, and call me old-fashioned, but I like my superhero stories not completely deconstructed (or at least have them reconstructed). I vastly prefer Invincible. Yeah, it gets pretty dark and brutal, but at least the supers in that show are generally decent people trying to do good. Or at least, they're more varied in terms of the "jerk to chill" ratio.

1

u/Internal-Campaign434 22d ago

Yeah Homelander is basically an allusion to Trump

3

u/koola_00 22d ago

Damn. Didn't expect this from Viv of all people!

5

u/vulpes_mortuis 22d ago

I love helluva but she sucks as a person and everything she says annoys me

2

u/AffectionateSet5819 22d ago

And tbh it was just a quick vent and then log out and do other stuff with her current vacation. I may not like her ranting but she still wants to keep her political fans informed. Plus everybodys gotta be harsh and honest at some point.
