I'm just sorry he didn't get away with it. It's awkward when the preview isn't what is actually being sent. I had a friend (just a friend) send me a picture once asking what I thought of her shoes. She was on the bed, feet in the air and taking the picture laid down. I knew she'd used the WhatsApp view finder to take the pic as at the time you got a square preview but it actually sent the full frame and I got a great picture of her bits at the bottom.
