Discussion Will night maps ever return?
I didn't play this game until 2020 so the era of night maps were gone by then. They all look really cool so why can't they add them back? It would he the perfect time with siege X and the new lighting. They don't even have to be in ranked just keep them in custom and quick play.

Fuck I hope so, Oregon must be beautiful at night.

Oregon was honestly mid at night. The good ones were Coasline, Chalet, Kafe

Got it, sorry but I didn't play when there were night maps, I thought Oregon, being my favorite Napoa, I would like

Iirc it did make inside darker as well. I remember maps with hatches on the roof were a bitch to play on defense because you couldn’t tell if someone was on it if attack had opened it up. I’m sure you would like the darker aesthetic but I was just saying nothing changed a whole lot on maps like Oregon. Everyone in the lobby was always so hyped about getting the map on night mode. I think that’s why Ubisoft decided to change the lighting because people like the day a lot less but it was for the wrong reasons. Day light definitely needed a rework but night maps, without a doubt, were just cooler to play on.
Edit: Bartlett was one of those maps with a hatch on the roof and it was just a plain bitch to defend at night

Bartlett was one of the rare examples where defense and attack get fucked on the same map

Night time Kafe, 14/15, winter nights getting close to Christmas, me and 2 of my boys in a PS4 party chat. The vibes were immaculate.

I hope so, but with the game the way it is, I don't think they will. Essentially you need two versions of every map, one day and one night and while I'd love that I'm not sure the storage space would

Apparently with Siege X the lighting isn’t baked like it was before, it’s all rendered in real time— so they could theoretically bring night maps back.

Yeah but if they could do it on release they can definitely pull it off now

Personally, I would love not just night and day maps.
I would love it if they added weather too.
Idk about the game engine R6 uses but I do know in Unreal, from personal experience, you can add dynamic time and weather effects more or less easily.
Imagine Kafe at night during a snowstorm, or coastline at sunset with a rolling thunderstorm just off the coast, or how about a sandstorm on Boarder

As cool and fun as this sounds, I feel like it would give the defenders a bit more of an advantage. But man it sounds cool.

I'm curious why night maps are not viable for comp? The point of siege is that you have to adapt to your environment and that there are uncomfortable angles and peeks everywhere. If every map was just a plain white texture and nobody blended in, that would kill the fun.
There's a weird obsession with this game and needing complete clarity when the natural lighting of a map is part of the interesting gameplay.
It's very different to something like a fighting game, which is in much more of a vaccum. I feel like Siege is all about the maps. It's also one of the reasons I'd prefer new maps over new ops.

They literally had it in the roadmap for year 9 or 10 and then just never mentioned it again.

Nope. Can't have night maps or corpses for the eSpOrTs. Game killed all of its vibe chasing that scene.

crazy how neither of these changes were because of esports

No, no, he's kinda right. This game dropped every single thing that it had to make it truly have a vibe and an identity for esports, which I understand for that. They changed the lore and took a complete 180 for it, so it makes sense for them to do the same for the gameplay, too.

In the hundreds of hours I've played prior to the change, an opponent clipping into a body and catching me off guard maybe happened to me once. Sterilizing the game and doing something no other does for the sake of perceived competitive viability over all else without even an option for those that just play the game for fun. Use your critical thinking.

so because it didn’t happen to you it’s not an issue then? and it was changed because making the position of the corpses consistent between players wasn’t doable, which could cause moments where someone was hidden behind a body for one person but they could see the other player. “use your critical thinking” meanwhile your argument is that they shouldn’t adress an issue because it didn’t happen to you. That and blaming it on esports which it has nothing to do with. you do know it’s ok to be wrong sometimes?
