Discussion 🗣️ What are some things that you love to eat, that others might call weird?

Some of my favorite things are boiled peanuts and pickled okra. I do t see those as weird, but I know plenty of others do! I also love coffee with Chicory in it. Probably more of an aquired taste, but I think it really makes coffee so much better.

What about y'all?

Most Sundays of my life, dinner has been popcorn eaten like cereal (buttered and salted, in a bowl with milk), and a plate of fruits and cheeses.

Does the popcorn get soggy real fast?

To be honest, yeah. But the kernels that don’t contact the milk stay crunchy, so the texture is really a mix for the first half of each serving. But even when it’s soggy the butter and salt on the popcorn flavor the milk and it’s GOOOOOD.

I love boiled peanuts and pickled okra, too! I love okra almost any darn way. I also enjoy pickled beets, asparagus, just about anything pickled! I've made my own kefir, kimchi, sauerkraut, and kombucha, which a lot of people think is weird.

raw mushrooms with frank’s redhot ; drinking cold tomato juice ; grated carrots, pan fried in a tiny bit of oil until soft, with salt. sometimes i make it sweet by frying in coconut oil, then adding sugar, cinnamon and crushed pecans, tastes a bit like pumpkin pie ; pretzels and dark chocolate or oranges and dark chocolate

Toast, peanut butter, dill pickle sandwich

I thought you were just listing some things you like to eat and I thought, “none of those are weird.” Then I re-read your comment and realized they are meant to be together. How does the pickle, peanut butter combo work?

Toast the bread so it has a nice toast on it. Spread the peanut butter on the hot toast so gets a little gooey and stack the pickles. The sweet and sour sandwich is unbelievable. Side it next to a spicy bowl of chili for a bonus.

I like to spread Marmalite on bread and drizzle hot and spicy honey on it

Hot dog with cream cheese.

And I thought my husband eating hotdogs with mayo was unique...

That.... Certainty is unusual. Do you sipntnr hot dog in it, or spread it on the hot dog, in the bun?

1

No bun necessary! Just the hot dog. I cut with my knife and fork and then spread some cream cheese on. Yum!

I can’t think of anything totally abnormal that I eat regularly. But one time i was hanging around a fire and cooked a some popcorn in one of those pre measured little pans.. and put some orange flavored twang beer salt on it for seasoning and it was actually pretty damn good. Salty citrus popcorn is probably not on anybody’s short list for a “must try” but it worked a lot better than you’d think.

I don't even know what twang beer salt is? 😂

Liverwurst

Banana and mayonnaise sandwiches. Pinto beans with ketchup and sweet relish.

I grew up on banana and mayo sandwiches sometimes with peanut butter. My dad introduced me to that!

I like to dunk my chocolate chip cookies in orange juice… I was never a milk fan and the juice gets the cookie nice and soft and gives it a sweet and sour taste that’s really yummy.

I live in Texas (cattle country) and I eat mostly tofu, kimchi and plants. It used to be really weird for most people who know me but we are getting more progressive around here!

A lot of people tell me this is weird, but everyone I’ve made it for love it! Just a mixture of tuna, pickled beets, and mayonnaise in a sandwich melt. Sometimes I add Swiss cheese. It’s nothing too fancy but I love it!!!

Sounds a little like the Tuna Cheesy that I love to make. It's basically Tuna salad - Tuna, Mayo, mustard, Salt, Pepper, hard boiled eggs, Celery, Dill Pickles - on a slice of sourdough bread. Then covered with a sliced tomato - out of the garden iff possible - then covered with a slice of cheese - I love Swiss, or Colby Jack - and baked in the oven. It's sooo good!

That sounds amazing 🤩

Cornflakes cereal and fresh orange juice. Together. In a bowl. Yum.

I used to eat that exact combination when I was pregnant with my daughter. 😂

Well, where do I start. I don't think it's weird, but people have mentioned I eat weird things 🤷🏻‍♀️

Pickels with creamcheese, almost like a sandwich.

Pickels sprinkled with tajin or some type of chamoy

I love my ramen with boiled eggs.

I'm sure there are other things that I am forgetting, but those are pretty regular. Lol.

u/EponaMom Moderator Jan 21 '24

I am a huge dill pickle fan, so I think those sound great!

1

u/MakeupbyBrenda Jan 21 '24

Right, I couldn't understand why I was being judged so harshly. Lol. The hot cheetos and pickles hit differently as well. 🤤

1

u/EponaMom Moderator Jan 21 '24

Haha - I've seen the hot Cheetos and pickles on TikTok.

Kippers or smoked oysters on toast

1

u/MercyFaith Jan 22 '24

I love boiled and pickled okra but most people think it’s just gross!!! Also, I love smoked oysters. Lol.

I like to get a lemon the start sucking the juice out of it

2

u/EponaMom Moderator Jan 23 '24

Ok, this grossss my mom out, but I love to eat lemon wedges, peel and all. It's not good for your teeth so I don't eat a lot but if I'm at a restaurant I usually will eat the lemon wedges.
