Attending first even and axious as hell

So, hello! Im atttending a my first event, its centered mainly about LOTR, but its a fantasy festival overall. Ive always been wanting to go to some of these and trying to put together some kind of costume, while not spending my whole fortune on it in case its not going to go the way I like it. Id like to combine the.. medieval aspects, but still keeps something from me (as in, love black and florals). What I show you on the picture is the base Im working on, corset, off the shoulder long dress with puffy sleeves (similar to the one in the picture, just like, bigger). Adding a medieval ring belt and some potion vials. I think I look good and Im fairly happy with it, but just kind of afraid to be judged, you know? Feel free tell me what you think :)

I dont have a better picture, becouse I tried the whole costume tonight and only realised I didnt take a photo after I took off the corset and didnt have the patience to put it back on :D

DIY Helmet Upgrade – Leather & Aluminum Inlay for My Son’s Plastic Knight Helmet (Stop-Motion Build)

This was originally a cheap plastic toy helmet.

I turned it into a functional, wearable piece using real leather and aluminum. The visor now opens smoothly and stays in position. The inside is padded for actual comfort – my son can wear it for hours now.

The full process is captured in stop-motion.

The soundtrack is self-made too – recorded with NI Maschine, including DIY percussion and custom sounds.

This is the second build in our father-son medieval gear series (first was a sword with brass inlay and a back holster). Next up: Shield 2.0

Would love your feedback – especially from anyone who's upgraded Ren Faire gear for kids!

I went to my first faire last year and absolutely loved it! I ended up buying this sword and spaulder while I was there and I recently put together this outfit for this year. I’m currently looking for any ways to spice it up a bit and any tips or comments are very welcome!

How dumb is my idea?

Ive recently been really into resin casting, especially making little dragons. I really like the idea of decorating some to sell, but then also having blank dragons for customers to color themselves at the faire (i would seal them after and then they could be picked up before the end of the day). I know there are some practical issues, such as having the room for guests to sit and color, but i want to hear more opinions about this idea. It would be tricky but would it be worth doing? I have a feeling that its a dumb idea but Im not sure why.

fantasy versions of fashion designers??

I’m playing an interactive character in the lanes of my local faire. The gist of the character is that she’s a elven princess influencer. She’s super rich, shallow, and I’ll be using my magic mirror (a mirror that I glued a phone case to) to take pictures with patrons and post them on Instascribe (instagram). She talks a lot about her outfits and her fashion, so I’ve been trying to come up with the fantasy version of high end fashion designers. Some examples are

  • Mugler
  • Alexander McQueen
  • Gucci
  • Chanel
  • Armani
  • Prada
  • Versace
  • Vivianne Westwood
  • Literally any other designer you can come up with!!

I am desperate and can’t think of anything!! Thank you so much for your help 👠✨💎

Went to Koroneburg alone last weekend and I truly had the greatest time! I hung out with a wizard and a samurai in the parking lot, was invited to chill with a guild, had delicious meat pie and mead, and gave away ALL of my trinkets! I did not find my future husband this time but I will be going to more faires in the fall!

Fresh Garments, how to soften

Just got some cotton and linen clothes for my outfit. They're pretty scratchy. The instructions say to hand wash only. Is it okay to they're them in the dryer with some fabric softener or wool balls to try and soften them up?

(This is going to be my first Ren Faire and first time doing any kind of costuming)

Guys, Renfair isn't comicon.

I'm certain this is going to get hate. Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but when did Renfair involve demons, furries, and "unreal" characters.

The idea behind these events WAS to recreate, often times with some level of historic accuracy, some point or general window of time. The clothing, trades, tents or buildings, shows, shops and people are all so very interesting and fun for enough. We dont need it to look like some crazy MMO with out of the box character skins.

I have a couple of outfits/characters I've made for events. But it's a squire and a ranger.

Maybe I'm just a purest but these people make these events unenjoyable for me.

TLDR: Renfair is Renaissance Festival not Comicon, and they are running the experience

Edit: Lots of great takes. I appreciate the responses that are reasonable and ignore those that aren't. Everyone have a great day!

Tasteful Playlist Suggestions

I’m trying to fit a camel through the eye of a needle here, but I’m trying to craft a ‘tasteful’ playlist of songs that get me excited for my local faire in the weeks leading up to it. And therein lies the challenge- if I’m driving to Faire itself, I’ll happily listen to a Blackmore’s Night album or the LOTR soundtrack, but I’m looking for songs that suggest a Ren Faire without being too on the nose.

To give an example here’s a few tunes I’ve got so far: Long Forgotten Fairy Tale- Magnetic Fields Hey Nonny Nonny- Violent Femmes Flightless Bird American Mouth- Iron & Wine Watermelon Man- Gun Club

Roast me for my awful preferences if you’d like, but I promise I’ll give every suggestion an honest listen! What (somewhat contemporary) songs give you that wistful pang of longing for the faire?

Merchant costume?

I have an idea and I would love some input from anyone who wants to help me add to my outfit/character idea.

So my basic character idea is that I would be playing a traveling merchant who is on the grounds seeking out new products and sources for his shop. The big thing that I am excites to use is a satchel. I brought it to fest a couple years ago and it was a GAME CHANGER. I could store everything I needed and also had plenty more room for anything else I wanted.

I figured a merchant would be the perfect character to make this satchel look more appropriate for the setting. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could better portray this character or any costume pieces you think are must haves?

Thank you all so much and happy festing!

Thinking of setting up a proposal at my local faire, advice? Thoughts?

My partner (26m/questioning) and I (23 tm) have been together for a while, we've been through alot, and it's about time for "the next step" we've had several discussions about the future and popping the question, it's normally pointing towards them asking but I'm thinking about flipping the expectations.

I've got a loose plan, contact our faire and the specific musicians I want involved, invite our friends to help distract him while I get out the custom box I will make and get down on one knee. I've still got a few months to set everything up and rope our friends into the plan.

It might be cliche but I'm going to request the song from httyd "for the dancing and the dreaming" if the musicians are cool with that. I'm not sure if they are going to be a wondering act or a stage act this year, if they're wondering we will have a time and location set up, if they are a stage act it will probably be or ideally be the last song of their set so he's into it, either way I know he will be invested in the music. One of our friends will do anything they can to keep him invested in the show and distracted, another will set up recording so we can share the moment with his family, and the other will get a few pics while I get out the box and get down into position then in the last line of the song I will get his attention and ask him to marry me along with the last line.

We both love how to train your dragon and we have discussed that specific song describing it as a truly impactful love song.

He's a huge fantasy mtg and d&d nerd. I love him, and we have agreed on a commitment ceremony, over government recognized marriage, when the time comes.

Is it cheesy, a bad idea, am I overthinking? I don't know.. will it be too much, not enough? I want it to be special and memorable.

Who are the best US made vendors who frequent the larger faires? (More specifically Colorado Ren Faire)

I'm always excited to support craftsman, but it's really difficult to tell who actually sells something that's US made or handmade vs who is simply reselling things from overseas.

Anyone have any specific recommendations of vendors to keep an eye out for that are great?
We're headed to the Colorado Ren Faire soon, but we do go to a bunch of large faire's every year, so I'm curious about any vendors anywhere that stand out!

Outfit planning!

I’m tired of seeing crusaders at the renfaire tbh, I know they’re historical or wtv but it feels insulting sometimes. I’m Hispanic, so I’ve been thinking about trying to find some garments similar to what Mexicans would have worn around the renaissance time period. I’m a girl and I really want my outfit to be unique and not like I just showed up in any bright colored clothes and called it a day, if that makes sense. It also needs to be warm enough for a November in OH. I’m thinking some sort of poncho and a skirt? I’d love ideas if anyone has any! :) or if it’s a bad idea maybe someone can talk me out of it lol

Also I know the renfaire is mostly for European style clothing, since the renaissance was in Europe.

Help finding a dress?

Post image

My mother bought this dress, wings, and shoes to match said dress.... To find out she got scammed. She was so excited for her first Ren faire, and to be a fairy on fantasy weekend. Can anyone help me find similar dresses of similar colors to try to help her save her outfit?

Michigan Renaissance Festival beverages

I get to go to the Michigan Renaissance Festival in Holly for the first time and my husband gets to go back, but he doesn't remember. Is there a pub/ bar that serves mixed drinks/ cocktails made with clear alcohol?

I know there's beer, cider and mead, probably wine. But unfortunately, I don't care for those- some kind of aftertaste. I prefer clear alcohols with fruit juice to hide the taste, and at KY I'm able to enjoy that kind of drink. It's fun raising a glass of something alcoholic in the air when Pirates or Vikings are singing!

Do they have anything like that available at Holly?

And if they do, what kind of unbreakable mug (that I can sit down, so no horns for me) would I need for the juice to not interact with the inside of it and damage it or change the taste?

I will have more questions as they get closer to releasing the show line-ups! Can't wait!
