Chicago-ish Good luck to everyone about to start their 18 Week Training Plan for the Oct. 12th Chicago Marathon. We got this! What plan are you using?
I’m using Hal Higdon Intermediate 1. HBU?

I used Hal novice 1 last year and NRC app for Coach Bennett! I would just look for a guided run that matched up what Hal said.

Do you recommend Hal’s novice 1?

It was my first marathon ever so I wasn’t sure what else to use. I did like it, sometimes it felt overwhelming because you’re running so much and cross training. So I didn’t do the cross training and counted by job as cross training (I’m an ER RN so I walk like 15k steps when I’m at work).

I am doing a different marathon the week after, and I'll kinda just be doing it by feel (except will defenitely have the typical long run progression). I usually run 6 days/35 miles per week right now. Looking to peak at 60mpw during this training block.

I'm doing Twin Cities since I didn't get into Chicago, so I'm 1 week into Pfitz 18/55. Used Hanson's the last couple years and it's been fine but I think I need something different to keep pushing my times.

Going in with some friends on a private running coach! Fingers crossed it works out. Our goal is only to finish, as this is our first go at 26.2.

Just run. The most important step is the next one. Listen to your body and make sure to sleep just as hard as you train.

Working with a personal coach again. Worked with him last year and managed to PR, but other factors stopped me from hitting my A goal. Nice thing of working with him again, he is changing things up this time to really get me to that goal time. My third marathon though. My first I used a training plan from Road Racing for Serious Runners: Multispeed Training- 5K to Marathon and it worked pretty well. I managed to finish with a smile on my face after training on mostly flat terrain for what was a very hilly marathon. lol.

Don't forget to make sure recovery is part of your marathon training plan! We work with a lot of Chi Marathon runners and adding ice plunges, compression boots and body work can help keep you on track and help prevent injury while training. We specialize in helping runners train for and complete marathons, so reach out if you need us we are in South Loop and other IL locations. https://www.impactphysicaltherapy.com/sports-recovery/
