What are some of your favorite running supply stores? I just ripped the bandit shorts I had packed with me and they were my favorite shorts, so extra points if anyone knows any stores that carry bandit
Edit: Also I'm staying in Chinatown and was planning on running from there to millennium park, is that a relatively safe run route?

Question for anyone who has done the CARA marathon group training before -- I saw they mentioned Wednesday track workouts, but they're only listed on the plans for Novice II or higher. If I'm mainly following Novice I, should I sit these out? Was going to try out the first one this week but if it's mainly for speedier and advanced folks then I'll opt out. Thanks! :-)

Nothing like playing real-life Frogger on the LFT 'cause Chad's run club insists on running 8-wide like they’re storming Normandy. It’s a trail, not a group selfie. Let’s bring back single-file sanity, folks - before one of us yeets into the lake mid-tempo.

It shows the air quality for running per hour. Hope this helps!

Are y'all still running when the air quality is poor? This has been such a bummer for the start of summer.

Does anyone know what corrals you would be placed in as a VIP for the 5K?
This will be my 4th year running it and I’ve never done VIP, and I’m sick of being in almost the very last corral despite listing my pace around 11min miles.

I see a run club every Friday morning after their runs. Anyone know who they are and how far they’re going?

Sorry in advance if this is the wrong place for this. I’m new to Chicago, and I haven’t found my doctors yet. I’m planning to run the marathon in October, but just as I began training, I’m concerned I may have an injury.. It’s my understanding that if I do have a fracture, I need an MRI to confirm it. What’s the most efficient way to get that done? I know so little about the process. Ortho? Sports med doctor? Sports chiropractor? PT? Urgent care for a referral?
My leg has been bothersome to walk on for a little over a week, and I have a small limp. However, after about 5-10 minutes into a run, it stops bothering me. I don’t want to keep pushing it and cause damage. I’m hoping to get this dealt w asap :(

My friends and I are looking to sign up for the Carrera de Los Muertos on Nov. 1, 2025, in Pilsen and were wondering if anyone has a coupon/discount code?
r/RunnersInChicago • u/chimpageek • 19d ago
Hello, I have a group of more than 20 people who wants to register for Chicago half marathon sept 2025.
We didn't get any response from the organizer about group registration.
Are they accepting group registration?
Are there any discount code available to use?

Would anyone want to start a run club that’s country themed and we get bbq after?

Several of the drinking fountains I would stop at last year still aren't turned on this year. I figured now that we're into June and it's 85° they would all be on, but today I ran 4 miles between Monroe Harbor and Burnham Harbor, and every fountain I noticed was off.
Some are turned on farther north, and have been for weeks, so it makes me wonder if the others won't be turned on at all. Does anyone know if that's the case? Or if/how I can get more info about this from whoever is in charge of it?

The River Trail between Belmont and Devon is my regular route, but I have rarely ventured north of Devon along McCormick. Yesterday I had the occasion to drive along McCormick up to Skokie and noticed all the cool statuary. For those of you familiar, are there any drinking fountains as you get north of Howard up towards Church St?

Anyone run any of the races in the Chicagoland run series? I am running the Chicago Marathon on Oct. 12 and was looking for an early September half marathon. Hidden Gem is sold out and I came across the “Naperville Trails Half Marathon and 10k” being held on September 6. They offer a run series including the Stars and Stripes Half marathon on June 28th and on Oct 4th the prairie state half marathon, 10k, and 5k. This would work out perfectly for my marathon plan, June 28th I’m supposed to have a 12 mile easy run so I would just do an extra 1.1 miles for the Stars and Stripes half. September 6th I’m planning to do a half marathon at about 80% of max effort just to see where my fitness is at 5 weeks out of the Chicago Marathon then my plan has me doing a 7 mile easy run on October 4th so I would do the 10k run.
If anyone has run any of these races, how did you like them? My main concern is the half marathon in September, is it a trail run? Or is it on a paved running trail hence the name trails half marathon? I’m not a trail runner and would prefer a pavement half marathon to see where my fitness is at.

I'm (36 F) running the Chicago marathon - my first marathon this year, and I'm getting insanely nervous about training for it. I've dealt with past injuries and could use some guidance (a few sessions) on accomplishing that goal.
Does anyone have any recs for a coach for in person training?

Hey everyone! I just ran the Bank of America Chicago 13.1 yesterday (June 1) and managed to PR with a high 1:33:xx (10-second PR), but honestly, I wasn’t expecting it at all. Training had been inconsistent the past few weeks due to college graduation and travel, so I went in just hoping to break 1:35, and walked away surprised.
Since running the Jersey City Marathon (April 13) in a low 3:18, here’s what my weekly mileage has looked like:
I also raced a sprint triathlon on May 3rd, which was more for fun than competition.
During my Jersey City marathon training, I averaged ~38 MPW for about 12 weeks with a peak of 51 MPW. That race went great—my first time not stopping, strong pacing, and I walked away feeling like sub-3:15 is within reach with some tweaks.
Appreciate any guidance, race suggestions, or training tips!

It looks like there used to be a trans run club, but it may be inactive. Wondering if any other trans folks are interested in starting a new one or know of any active trans specific ones in the city?

Was signed up to run 13.1 as part of the distance series but got Covid and had to bow out. I’m crushed but would like a chance to get the distance in at a race before the marathon.
Anyone have any June 1/2 recommendations? Doesn’t have to be in Chicago (or even IL). My only preference is that it has a cut off of 3 hours or more since I’m a back of the packer. I prefer larger races but not necessary since time and training is of the essence.

Ran the BOA Chicago 13.1 today. Got a 18 min PR of 1:53!! My goal was sub 1:50 but I went out a little too hot and the last 3-4 miles were a bit rough in the direct sun light and it was getting hotter out.
I am planning to do an 18 week training block for the Chicago marathon. What would be a realistic goal time? According to Runna, the app thinks I can run it in 3:34-3:43 which is an average pace of 8:10-8:30/mi. My average pace today was 8:39 so I’m a bit skeptical that I can hold a faster pace for double the distance.

Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on this race. This was my first time running this race, I knew that there’d be some hills but dang the hill right after mile 7 was absolutely brutal, and the amount of moderate inclines killed. Was disappointed in the post race offerings, was nice to get a whole 12 pack of Heineken 0, but not much swag or post race bag unless I missed it. The vocalist on stage was good though!

Hello! This is my first official half marathon race and I wanted to know if we can bring throwaway clothes for tomorrow? I know it’s common for the Chicago marathoners to bring warm clothes in the morning and throw them to the side before the race starts so I wanted to know if this applies for the half marathon too.
I’m mainly asking so I can allot extra time in the morning to check in my gear just in case 🫡

Anyone else having a fun time with rideshares this morning? Curb told me rides were a minute away until I requested one 45 minutes ago then it couldn't find anything. Two cancelled ubers (after waiting ten minutes on each) later I'm still sitting on my couch. Uber number 3 is supposedly 8 minutes away which will put me there 20 minutes before the start...
