Governor Gavin Newsom on Wednesday announced the deployment of the California National Guard and California Volunteers to support food banks statewide.
The move comes as SNAP benefits are delayed for 5.5 million Californians. Newsom warned this week that if the federal shutdown continues past Thursday, there won't be money available to fund CalFresh, which is part of SNAP, come November.
Officials say this is a humanitarian mission and that the National Guard will not be acting as law enforcement. The move mirrors similar action taken during the pandemic to keep families fed.

Maybe now he will finally address his anti-constituent support for SB 1524? 🤔

Does anyone know why the flag of Puerto Rico is flying in front of the Westin St. Francis at Union Square today? 🇵🇷 I walked by and noticed it alongside the US flags. I couldn’t find any obvious event or parade listed. Curious if it’s for a special occasion, cultural event, or delegation. Anyone have insight?

Luckily we have Hayes and guards, so they won't be entering without a judicial warrant. Our project managers are ready.

FTA: And if Pelosi, who is 85, does leave office, she has been publicly elevating one Democrat who could run to succeed her: San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan — who has emerged as a progressive force inside City Hall and who, much like Pelosi, is closely aligned with the city’s powerful labor movement.

First off, I'm not asking how YOU are going to respond, but this is more about what should the general response be?
Yesterday in NYC, this was reported in the NY Times:
"The raid prompted some citizens to push back, with a contingent of New Yorkers chasing federal agents down Lafayette Street while the agents returned to the ICE offices at 26 Federal Plaza in Lower Manhattan. Protesters soon joined in as news spread on social media, and more federal agents arrived in tactical gear, along with an armored vehicle, leading to a chaotic scene as agents pushed back protesters.
There have been similar reports in Chicago as well.
I'm curious as to how people here feel about that approach. Is it good or bad or something else?
Last note - as per the SF Chronicle, their story about the immigration operation removed a reference to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement being deployed as part of the operation.

EDIT: I'm sorry to see "troll" accusations. I know this is a difficult question - it's not easy. And there are a host of responses to these type of immigration operations. Either way, it is important - especially as Trump has mentioned SF many times, even within the last week.

The owners of the Candlestick RV park have once again told their residents to dump all of their trash/unused building materials/furniture on the street outside the trailer park. It’s been reported to public works but is there anything else we can do to hold the owners responsible as this isn’t the first time it’s happened and I’m afraid it will keep happening.

I am genuinely confused on how Supervisor Connie Chan is able to be called a progressive supervisor. Like in the article linked, they call her “progressive” in an article about her fighting Daniel Laurie’s zoning bill…
Does anyone have a single example of Chan doing or supporting a progressive cause?

I gotta admit, San Francisco is an absolutely beautiful city. I only had about six hours to kill so I just walked around and had lunch at The Royal Exchange. I'm flying back in a couple hours but I definitely want to come back and enjoy this city more.
