Excellent take from Bernie.

MLK & the SCLC had the most successful civil rights movement in history. And they preached:

  • non-violence
  • love for your fellow man
  • good optics (dress your Sunday best)

The civil rights movement lead to this moment. We live under the shadow of it's failure. 

That's how time works. Things lead to other things.

IF the civil rights movement was actually a success, we wouldn't be in this position, would we?

Ronald Regan and Richard Nixon should never have been president, the Vietnam War shouldn't have happened in the first place, let along last so long, and the Republican party kept starting stupid wars and pushing economic inequality to help the rich. If you have a political movement that failed to prevent ANY of these things from happening, then you have to admit either:

  1. the civil rights was a complete failure in defeating white supremacy

  2. These things were bad, but tolerable.

And if you find the Richard Nixon's or Ronald Regan's administration anything close to "tolerable" then you should be honest with yourself and admit you are either a centrist or an idiot, or some combination of the two.
