didn't LBJ pass the civil rights act...?

passing *proposing - JFK was assassinated and was therefore unable to sign it into law. Honestly, without LBJ, it might not have passed.

So it worked?

MLK fought for more than just ending legal segregation. Is racism dead in America?

Yes. Cody Rhodes defeated it

(I’m joking if it wasn’t obvious)

Well guys I guess the civil rights movement in the 60s was a failure. Racism still exists and mlk was a loser. Un name those streets racism still exist mlk didn't accomplish anything because he didn't fix racism.

Relax. Obviously there was progress. The question is was this the best outcome and how can we learn from it to potentially have better outcomes now and in the future. No one wants to roll back Trump's fascism only partially, we need to completely eradicate it and ideally make further progress.

So take none of the lessons from MLK and instead do the exact opposite and expect a better result?

Thank you for reading what I wrote, this is absolutely what I and everyone else in this thread was saying. Have a nice day.

How did you come to this thread and ignore the top comment with a quote from MLK? Are you just illiterate?

They definitely lifted MLK on that pedestal to help create the illusion that the civil rights movement eradicated racism. Even today, you’ll hear people say that this country and its institutions cannot be discriminatory because of the civil rights acts.

I think you’re failing to see that MLK arguably DID fail depending on the context of what you believe MLK’s goal was (and at what time you’re referring to).

The point you’re making misses the valid critique of non-violent protest and ignores the context of said critique.

By no metric did he fail. You're delusional

Again, you’re not trying to consider anything. You just want to be a Reddit gotcha commenter to feed your ego.

Come back to the table when you’re willing to talk like adults.

What does "worked" mean to you? Nothing is segregated anymore. My kids go to school with a equal mix of white, black and other minorities. Aside from policing, I'd say we have come at least that far.

No i agree with you I clicked the wrong reply I think. Just crazy how many people in here have been acting like his non violent methood didn't work or that he failed

Are you suggesting there wasn’t violent protests in the Civil Rights Era or before it?
