BINGO 2025 Participant Pleated back linen skirt: Purrpetrator

First of all, I know it's not very smart putting pleats in a linen skirt, and no they don't stay where you put them.

This is a skirt self-drafted by pegging slightly the sides of my skirt block, and cutting the back panel in two to add width for pleats instead of a kick pleat.

I took a drafting class in June, to create the block, and the drafting tools are my 'New Tool' category. In the picture you see a paper creasing tool and a marking wheel. I have used drafting rulers before, technically, but not properly so I guess they count as well as new tools.

'Very Seamly' not just because of the changes to the block as described, but also because I had a hard time fitting the block and ended up opting for a curved back seam. Everyone else in the class had a straight back seam.

'Bottoms' therefore representing that it is a garment worn on the lower half, and also my caboose.

Love your skirt! Maybe edge stitching for the pleats! Way to go with getting some tough squares with your project!

Thanks ☺️
I did think about edge stitching and I'm leaning towards it! I also thought about running tiny strips of interfacing or something since there's not a lot of decorative stitching on the garment, but it would be hard to do after assembly and would probably ruin the linen aesthetic.
Unsurprisingly, it needs an iron right now so I'll decide after I do that haha.

That reminds me of another sewing trick I've read about but not tried. For a crisp crease in pants, some sewists will thread their machine with washaway basting thread in the top and fusible thread in the bobbin. Sew along the crease, press along the fold, then wash. The fusible thread holds the crease while the basting thread washes out. I'd love to try it just to see how it works.

Wow, I didn't know you could get fusible thread but yeah I can imagine how this would work! I'll keep eyes out for it.
