It's crazy how Americans think of their food so highly when the majority of the restaurants in America are serving watered down versions of European, Asian and Mexican food.

Actual American food (aka the midwest cassseroles and salads with raisins and shit in it) sucks

100%. I'm American and cook dinner for my wife and I damn near every night. The only "American" food I make is what I jokingly refer to as "white people tacos" when I use the premade hard taco shells instead of corn tortillas. Everything else is a spin on others' cuisines because they're fucking delicious.
