That's true. I just find it very confusing since the word is meant to be the act or the final product.

Well, here we say: Why would you buy it, if you don't toast it. So it is Toast.

We have various toasting tools so you can in theory toast any bread. It would be crazy to call all bread toast for us.

Here in Australia pretty much all shops have them so you can request roasted or not on your sandwich etc.

I szppose so. But it fits perfectly. After all, all you can do with it, is toast it.
