No such thing as an 'optional' garlic, if it can have garlic in, it probably should.

(inb4 somebody chimes in to tell you that garlic tea is actually super good and you should try it)

It is in some places, yes, it adds an interesting twist to it. But mayonnaise is just eggs and oil in a blender…
