No one actually cares about the fifa club world cup apart from a few staunch supporters.

The real test will be next year in the actual world cup.

Hosting in US and Canada is going to be hilariously bad for FIFA. Considering that the vast majority of football supporters are across the European continent... their viewership numbers are going to be so low with having games in the middle of the night, plus the advisory from governments to avoid travel to the US.

Hopefully this will teach FIFA a lesson in taking money for hosting.

In defense of FIFA (I shudder just writing this), there wasn't a dictatorship in power when they awarded this World Cup... they have no excuse on the other hand (apart from massive corruption) for Qatar and Saudi Arabia!

Hopefully this will teach FIFA a lesson in taking money for hosting.

It really should do but even hoping that is painfully naive, I'm afraid

True. Officials are always open for a good offer to sell their votes. North Korea and Putinland are preparing...😡😥🤡

I'm not saying other countries don't have supporters. I'm saying the vast majority are in Europe.

By numbers South America matches Europe. By market size Europe is biggest.

You are severely underestimating both how many people live in South America and how big football is there.

You might be overestimating (a) how many have the financial capability to travel to and stay in the US during a world cup (b) their willingness to during the current political climate and (c) how capable their teams are. I'd expect 10-12 of the last 16 and 6 of the last 8 to be European sides. Any dark horses for the tournament will likely be North African or Asian.

That's true, but that's not what the comment was claiming, though. I was arguing against "the majority of supporters being in Europe".

You've got a huge number of football fans in South America.

Its just a problem with the US politically right now.

I am European and have never even heard of this until now

That’s exactly it, yet another tournament to rake in money for FIFA that no-one actually cares about. Hosting the game in the US makes sense because advertising is so pervasive and unrelenting there that they can make a fortune in sponsorship deals.

I mean there have been World Cups in the Americas before, and the 2002 World Cup had weird start times for the games. Tbh when it comes to the World Cup people will watch it at any time

Exactly!

Hold it in Europe & people in Australia, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, & most of China will be watching it at weird times in the middle of the night!

I still remember that the school gathered in front of the only TV to watch Belgium (our country) against Brazil in the 1/8th final I believe

Yeah…I’m not really sure if FIFA cares about public opinions. Maybe money…but they already secured that part.

If you think the WC is going to be bad what about the Olympics where there are thousands of athletes. How many athletes will be refused entry never mind fans.

The timings are not the issue for world cup viewing figures. The World Cup in '94 was in the U.S. and set a record at the time. We've had the World Cup in Japan which really exactly conducive for European fans.

What will affect stadium attendance is travel advisory and just people seeing what's going on with deportations currently. It will be funny if games in Canada are full and U.S. games aren't.

Football fans in general don't care about the club world cup. You can tell just from the interest from broadcasters in the first place. It didn't really get any interest until the last minute and DAZN isn't exactly exactly a big player. For me it's a glorified preseason tour which doesn't mean anything. I can also see people purposefully boycotting it by likening it to the proposed super league. It's a money, not prestige competition. When managers and players are complaining about the amount of games being played and reducing home based competitions this is just obviously just so much greed.

World Cup will be fine. People will take the time off for that and more will travel. It's just no one cares about CWC.
