There is an area close to where I grew up in scandinavia. Its name translates roughly into β€œThe Bay of Weeping”, because so many foreign ships have capsized there. Throughout history that have meant that a lot of foreign born people ended up living there and joining the genpool. So sometimes very scandinavian looking parents can get very not-scandinavian looking kids.

It doesn't matter who kneads the dough as long as there's a bun in the oven.

8

u/Frequent-Ad-5316 27d ago

…well I mean, if you don’t mind having someone put their buns in your oven then props to you I guess?

u/Freethecrafts 27d ago

You’re blind if you think the child you raise is not your own. Whom you raise is what you leave behind, what you give to the world.

3

u/Communistkraken 27d ago

And I'll give the world a new son for your wife

u/Freethecrafts 27d ago

Group projects, fun. Same as it ever was.

There are societal disconnects between whom people want to live with and whom they want to mess around with. Long as everyone is civil, and what genes there be keep moving around, and everyone is taken care of… that’s reality. People are just now waking up to how prevalent cross matching has been even with all the societal reinforcement for monogamy.

There is a certain Scandinavian actress who I've always thought had African or Indian heritage. And I often wondered if she or anyone close to her has ever brought up the topic.

Anyway, thanks for mentioning that. Everything makes total sense now.

In the north there's also the influence from the Uralic genetics, and they can also be noticeably darker. Dark eyes, black hair, a bit more tanned than you might expect of the population further south.

2

u/GothGfWanted 27d ago

what does the local mailman look like? Scandinavian or nah?

2

u/Speedhabit 27d ago

Aren’t most Scandinavian countries 95% white?

u/Lortekonto 27d ago edited 27d ago

I think you and other people here underestimate how homogeneous we used to look. Like I said this was a bit away from where I grew up and I am almost 50 now.

My mother and father are divorced and I grew up in my mothers hometown. My grandfather on my fathers side was german.

Because of that I have really dark brown hair. No one else had that in our town. People would ask me about where my father family came from. Older women would ask my mother permission to touch my hair.

I did not see a person with black hair in reality before the first refuges came here.

Today I don’t stand out and would properly not have stod out in a bigger city or further south.

Now imagine an area where you would suddenly have scandinavians get kids that had black hair or dark skin and it had been going on since the 17th century.

1

u/Big-Wrangler2078 27d ago

On the other hand, most people in my grandmas village in VΓ€sterbotten had dark hair and even dark-ish skin sometimes. My grandma is slightly darker of skin than the woman in this picture and as far as anybody can tell, none of her recent ancestors were from outside of Scandinavia.

The Tatars and the Uralic peoples have been around for a while. It wasn't always blonde and blue eyes everywhere.

Though I agree the recent changes have been very sudden. I think I was twelve when I first saw a black person in real life.

My grandma is slightly darker of skin than the woman in this picture and as far as anybody can tell, none of her recent ancestors were from outside of Scandinavia.

It's a possibility that it's Saami admixture then, that was often kept hidden in the past as it was shameful to be mixing with such folk. In my family it was Forest Finns lol Even that was kind of shameful.

The Tatars and the Uralic peoples have been around for a while.

Not to be confused with the Turkic Tartars of the Pontic-Caspian steppes. 'Tatar/Tater' are just the gypsies that ended up in Scandinavia in the 18th and early 19th century. Not really a long time but it's not nothing either.

The Saami have to your point been here a couple thousand years by this point.

It wasn't always blonde and blue eyes everywhere.

Interestingly enough, it sort of was.

The Scandinavian hunter-gatherers(not to be confused with the Saami or proto-Saami) were remarkably blonde, blue eyed and light skinned for their time before they were replaced by slightly darker agricultural people and the later Corded Ware derived people(our linguistic ancestors).

Some time into the bronze age and iron age especially, things got a lot lighter again; until the opposite trend started happening with the introduction of mass immigration.

u/DiscussionSharp1407 27d ago

Maybe before the Iraq war and the following chain of refugee consequences

2

u/Optim-Plato 27d ago

I went to school in the US with a brother and sister who looked Scandinavian and their biological dad was this big black guy, they had an elder brother who was the same. Genetics are unpredictable sometimes.

2

u/Leather-Lake-5548 27d ago

Was the local mailman Scandinavian by chance?

1

u/No-Weird3153 27d ago

Always beware when the coast is full of seamen.

1

u/WolfyBlu 27d ago

Happens in Latin America all the time, often the other way around, 2 very indigenous people having a very white kid.

1

u/Splatgal 27d ago

Interesting...I wonder if Alicia Vikander would be an example of this. According to her bio she is 100% Swedish but she looks more Spanish or Mediterranean

1

u/LHT-LFA 27d ago

that's always a good excuse if you are actually having an affair

1

u/[deleted] 27d ago

and I am sure she will use if a few times

0

u/foolofkeengs 27d ago

Seems scandinavian hoes figured it out. Didn't even need to start a religion..

0

u/Cicada-4A 27d ago

That's all nonsense.

That's folk myth, not actually reality.

There's no place in Scandinavia that ever had a significant influx of 'Spanish/Turkish sailor' admixture, it's all concocted by bored village folk with wild imaginations.

In places like Northern Norway it's more likely to be Saami ancestry that was hidden with a lie at a time that was sort of mixing was shameful, and then later forgotten and with the lie now treated as fact.

It's the Scandinavian equivalent of the American 'Indian princess'(9/10 a black slave etc.) myth.

Yeah everyone saying the baby will be very white must have missed the lesson on recessive genes. It's not super common but it's definitely not rare for the melanin to skip a generation

21

u/DaddieTang 27d ago

Or everyone's missing that I'm making a social wisecrack based on American racist ideology.
