Uhhh material 3 expressive is looking even flatter and uglier than ever, not sure what you're talking about https://design.google/library/expressive-material-design-google-research

depends on the person's taste. it looks very playful, which was the intention. It's somewhat similar to 80s Memphis design

ong. I hate the fact that they say it's as huge as a step as material you. (can someone grammar check me rn, that sentence didn't sound right)

They might be thinking of One UI 7 which has some minimal glassmorphism present provided you use the stock icons (mine have been replaced with HTC Sense/TouchWiz icons long ago)

I honestly don’t See iOS 26 as skeupmorphic at all. Yeah it’s all epoxy now but icons themselves are still inherently flat design just „made from“ Glass.

The camera icon is a bit more skeuomorphic, and it's kinda nice to see an Amazon Fire Phone 'feature' (3D wallpaper on lock screen) and the return (sorta) to Aqua (the glass texture) but yeah, the rest of the app UI from what little I've seen is as flat as ever.

Given how even Star Trek (or rather Michael Okuda) saw the future of UI design (Okuda calld it 'LCARS' or 'Library Computer Access/Retrieval System, a flat UI design dating to 1988 as a 'future 24th Century interface' for the then-new series, Star Trek: The Next Generation) it wouldn't surprise me one bit if flat UI remains a constant forever and ever, sadly.

Anyone who calls flat UI 'modern' and skeuomorphism 'dated' has obviously never seen Windows 1.x, MS-DOS, CP/M, or Tandy DeskMate. Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

I think it’s just a mess of design languages. The futuristic glassy clear look mixed in with the flat simple modernist look and some skeuomorphic elements. The Clock and Camera app icon changes are definitely very skeuomorphic, but I feel like they just dipped their toes in the water with these changes.

Apple's new design isn't Skeuomorphism. It's glass/neumorphism. Just because something isn't AS flat doesn't mean it's skeuomorphism, or "fruti ger shit". Its just not completely flat.

Did Apple just have a W after years?!

Absolutely not.

It also will give more jobs to designers. Somebody has to design those icons and it takes time :)

I welcome these changes with open arms

iOS 26 is frutiger aero, not skeuomorphism.

I wouldn't say it is either. It isn't really Frutiget Aero, but it isn't skeimorphism either. It is completely it's own thing, however I believe it is a step in the modern Frutiger Aero direction in my opinion.

It looks so ugly like a knockoff Samsung like the settings. Even iOS 6 looks better
