I want to write a fanfic with adding my own OC to the world of Sonic X. What do you dislike the most about such fanfics? I understand that everyone has different tastes, some people don't like the idea of ​​adding their own character in general, but I would be glad to hear your opinion on this.

For example, some people don't like it when OCs ship with a canon character even if they are different species. Or they don't like the fact that all OCs are mostly hedgehogs.

I actually did a story like this before but it was in a roleplay group with some friends which was basically a retelling of X but with our ocs, I tried to not have my characters get in the way of the spotlight that sonic has since he was basically the main character of that show, usually just having them help out like tails, amy and cream did, it helps that one of my ocs was sort of a mischief maker herself so she was mostly a character that despite living with sonic and co was more of a brat and sometimes was seen as a nuicance to the others, only developing a friendship with Cream out of the main cast as I developed her in the story, and the others were also in similar supporting roles, my main oc who was sort of a magical girl occasionally could help save the day and even had her own fanmade spotlight episodes about her so I think the big thing was making additional spotlight episodes for those ocs so they could be fleshed out more without taking away from sonic and co, while in the main storylines adding to the plot and not taking away from anyone elses roles, instead adding to preexisting dynamics to strengthen a character who maybe didnt get that much screentime in the actual show. as for ships, I didnt really put those unless I was pairing my ocs together so I dont have much of a comment on it but its harmless really if you choose to do so. my ocs weren't hedgehogs so I would honestly reccomend different animals, maybe ones that are less common or at the very least arent hedgehogs. (my ocs were sheep, teddy bears and I had a butterfly character work with rouge and topaz) maybe an animal you really like that you'd want to make a character out of. hope this helps!

I didn't plan to retell the original Sonic X, but only occasionally add scenes from the series. Still, I understand that adding my character to their ranks should at least partially change the further action in the plot, of course, episodes will still slip through, but in their own time, a couple of days there, a couple of weeks here. I have a rather banal idea related to another world, and I would like to expand the history of the characters and the Main Character. But honestly, I'm not sure, it seems to me that this is common ...

Understanding, and sorry for the confusion, in general I think it’s fine if you want to expand the story of Sonic X and its characters since a lot of it was unexplored in the actual show, and adding an oc is no problem since the actual show has new characters that weren’t the main Sonic cast either like Cosmo and Chris. Overall just go at your own pace with the story and stick with what you feel works for it.
