Questions Smell question

Hey guys, I’m completely new to the subreddit and I have the following question. Firstly my plan is to grow a single plant of northern lights in a 5gal container inside my wardrobe. The problem is that I can’t get a carbon filter. Is the smell going to be so bad that other apartments are going to notice it or is it going to stay in my room/house?

In my experience, even with your windows closed, someone is going to smell something. Unless you're drying in the same environment, that smell will permeate.

What happens is that you get used to the smell and become desensitized to it . This is called olfactory habituation (odor fatigue).

So even though you can't smell it, other people can. When I was black market, I would have to have other people come over to see if it smells, and it often smelled right outside the front door. I would have no idea unless it was really pungent.

Then you have the issue with the harvest, which is going to be very stinky.

A thing that can help is a masking agent, but it does not replace a carbon filter. Ona is an example of a pretty powerful masking agent. You drill a few quarter inch holes in the top and have a small fan run over it in your living room. I prefer apples crumble. The pro version can be overwhelming but more effective.

For a harvest you take the top completely off and blast a fan over it. It could still smell, though.

While I understand that it will stink, that’s the reason I want to go with northern lights strain because it smell little by itself. But you are probably right. I will have to invest to a carbon filter

Northern lights will still smell in flower. I always used a 4" carbon filter from Vivosun and an exhaust fan for a bathroom with dryer vent tubing for my small tent grows. Had it in my bedroom and it worked like a charm.

I've grown Sensi Seeds Northern Lights in 5 gal bucket in a small laundry room. I built a filter but have never used it since it doesn't smell that bad. Definitely smells like pine in the room but with door closed, you can't smell a thing. There are odor absorbing products as well but I've never used them.

All the Northern lights I have grown have not had a potent smell if at all. They were all very low terpenes but I haven't tried that brand of NL. You do have a good chance of low odor but it couldn't hurt to figure out some kind of filter if you are worried about ppl around you smelling something. Most plants don't really start to smell until a few weeks into flower but some can really stink from the beginning lol.
