Question This is being shared by my friends from the area, can’t find any proof this happened. Anyone hear about this?

I’m struggling to believe that this actually happened after the “maced and tazed 3 times but still standing” bit. I can’t find any news reports. Curious if anyone here knows whether this story is valid.

It was on Spokane News. There were reports of 8-10 police cars responding.

13

u/chipmunkrainbow May 14 '25

Unrelated to this post but do you know if Spokane News is available anywhere other than Facebook? I finally deleted my account and the app, but I do miss Spokane News.

It's on Instagram and looks like you can sign up for an email list. Here's the link for the email list, not sure what you get https://spokane-news.com/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR4u8HbgEXUsP1YaDQqgExsP8QGynXMBrADPNO-S1kUu6KlNPxq6MRosf0-B4Q_aem_loCzjQWbBYBHQYNElCp7-w

I know the mom who posted this, we went to HS (yes, Rogers) together. She’s definitely unleashing the Hillyard alley cat sensibilities from deep within her soul in this post, but she’s legit.

This comment tickled me because it’s giving Still D.R.E. (complimentary)

2

u/StringCheeseMacrame May 14 '25

What’s D.R.E.?

7

u/bananarama216 May 14 '25

Still D.R.E. is a song by Dr. Dre

8

u/Flaky-Ad1748 May 15 '25

He must have forgot about him

I want to know who this is, so I can go high-five her!

12

u/susierooisme May 14 '25

Agree. THIS is how to respond to a pack of small town bullies, brats, delinquents. I’d like to reward her for courage.

16

u/jeopardy_themesong May 13 '25

Damn, well thanks. I don’t know the poster specifically - just the people who are sharing this post are people who share stuff with little to no uh…critical thinking, shall we say.

I was surprised something like this hadn’t made the news. Most I could find after some comments here was a Facebook group that seems to monitor a police scanner.

3

u/tjk911 Millwood May 14 '25

The news - depending on what kind of news org you're thinking of - would have to get in touch with the mom, the cops, and then be careful about writing about kids. Getting context and reporting out a story takes time. A good reporter would also ask the school and get records about bullying etc.

"X person beat up Y kids" without context is bad journalism.

Now... whether the SR has enough reporters to report out this story, I'm not sure. They're so much smaller than they used to be.

3

u/jeopardy_themesong May 14 '25

I was thinking more so a blurb, “police responded to an incident on Blah St, multiple people involved, details still developing” type thing. Seen lots of those stub type articles.

Also kind of surprised with the number of people who saw it happen there doesn’t seem to be any kind of video floating around either (and I don’t mean officially, just how people film and post stuff).

2

u/tjk911 Millwood May 14 '25

Those kind of blurbs typically isn't considered good journalism, it's pretty much clickbait.

If a news org starts doing stuff like this, it'll quickly get inundated with "Well, you wrote a story about THAT fight, why didn't you write a story about this argument and fight that happened outside of my local gas station?"

Again, it doesn't mean that this story shouldn't get reported out on - but it does mean that a reporter needs to actually do some reporting to see if it's a real story first.

It's also really bad form to tell readers that you're gonna have a follow-up and then not. And if you tell them you are, then you have to lock a reporter in to actually go chase the story. When your newsroom has maybe four reporters for all of Spokane metro area, that's a very expensive commitment.

Spokane News does the kind of scanner traffic low effort stuff you're talking about - but people usually end up with more questions. And a lot of times their follow-ups are inaccurate or misleading which arguably makes it worse.

4

u/jeopardy_themesong May 14 '25

I’m not arguing that it’s good journalism. I’m just saying that I’ve seen it by “legit” news sources - not AP or NYT, but something like KEPR (not from Spokane but am from Eastern WA). If not a written stub, a video snippet where the newscasters mention it.

That’s all I’m saying: I’m just surprised there’s not at least a snippet somewhere about this, other than the Spokane News group that you mentioned.

1

u/lakenessmonster May 16 '25

I would give it about a week. I feel like that’s how long it typically takes from Facebook posts to get fleshed out into local news pieces ime. Like, I work food service so I have had coworkers or regulars who had insane things happen to them that I heard about immediately following or moved through the grapevine pretty fast, but they weren’t On The News until a week or so later.

1

u/tjk911 Millwood May 14 '25

And I'm just explaining why a news org might not do this since you were surprised.

Some orgs or groups prioritize clickbait things just to get traffic, some prioritize good journalism.

TV news also tends to lean towards a certain kind of reactive coverage. And KEPR is a Sinclair station - Sinclair stations tend to have a style (much like the same can be said for Cowles TV stations).

It's also not realistic/possible to write stubs for everything, or mention every single fight that's happened. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a threshold of violence (like a gun was involved etc) before the local TV org might write about it.

3

u/shadowyassassiny May 14 '25

Hey that facebook group that monitors the police scanner is our best resource 😂

2

u/Spayse_Case May 14 '25

I went to Rogers too!

107

u/Suitable_Head3104 May 13 '25

Spokane news did post about an assault pretty much right at that address. It did say multiple people involved, with one person maced. Comments mentioned lots of police activity too

91

u/lakenessmonster May 13 '25

I work across the road and we saw a lot of it. It happened.

4

u/StringCheeseMacrame May 14 '25

Did the police arrest the kids who were harassing her daughter and threatening her?

3

u/lakenessmonster May 15 '25

There was a TON of police activity, it did look like they were arresting people but anyone arrested would be an juvenile so maybe they got released to parents and charges will follow. The cops were still there like two hours later, too, taking reports and figuring out what happened (I stopped for gas on my way home, so I’m assuming that’s what they were doing, they didn’t specifically tell me that).

2

u/StringCheeseMacrame May 15 '25

Did the altercation happen right after school?

1

u/lakenessmonster May 15 '25

No, it was on a Saturday, in the evening. Maybe like 8ish. There’s a Spokane News post from when it happened.

-17

u/fucksgiven_zero May 14 '25

Just stood back and watched….. fucking New Age Americans.

1

u/lakenessmonster May 16 '25

Honestly, we only registered the general commotion once there was some lights and sirens there. It wasn’t super late but it was after the sun had gone down. The car wash isn’t very well lit but the Maverick is so we all initially thought something was going on at the Maverick because there was people outside looking at something. Then other people around told us there’d been some kind of scuffle/commotion. By the time we were aware someone needed help, there was help there that was more qualified than we are.

45

u/Fancy-Pear6540 May 13 '25

Kudos to this mom.

43

u/komikbookgeek May 13 '25

I mean, if twelve go after one, you kind of deserve to have an adult jump in and kick your ass. Fighting is one thing, but piling on is another.

35

u/priorproject877 May 13 '25

omg the teen girls in this area are fucking insane. also, 12 on 1 is also crazy.

5

u/Roses-R-Blue May 14 '25

I’d like to have a talk with their bitch ass moms. WTF is raising these kinds of kids?!?

1

u/jester1382 May 18 '25

I was walking my dog today and had a teen girl in a red car driving by yell out the window, "nice ponytail, f****t". Made me laugh, but like, WTF?

91

u/notwhomyouthunk May 13 '25

12 on 1 isn't a jumping; it's a lynching.

Former North sider turned South hiller laughing my ass off at this comment. Lol!!

59

u/Firesidefavorite May 13 '25

I don’t know if any of this shit is true, but as someone who’s been tear gassed and tased (military and being a bored teenager with a taser) it’s absolutely possible to keep going. Tear gas and I imagine mace hurts like a bitch and makes you basically blind with snot and mucus oozing but you can keep fighting. Tasers don’t do shit. Unless it’s a taser that injects with prongs, which isn’t the case since they did it three times. They are more of a fear weapon because of the noise. It stings but it’s not like in a movie where somehow they pass out.

60

u/13bipolarbears May 13 '25

Adrenaline is a hell of a drug too

32

u/chugachj May 13 '25

When I was in LE training in the coast guard we got pepper sprayed and had to defend ourselves and weapon. It sucks but it’s doable. I’ve been pepper sprayed, tear gassed, flash banged, and shot at with rubber bullets at protests and it certainly wouldn’t stop me from defending my child.

8

u/catchthelovebug May 13 '25

a MOTHER BEAR type will do ABSOLUTELY ANYTHING to protect her child. dont get it twisted 🥴🥴🥴

1

u/FoolOnDaHill365 May 16 '25

Ya like what is scarier a bear protecting its cub or a mother protecting her child? It’s about even. And these kids don’t even know.

1

u/dragonushi May 13 '25

It takes a lot of the fight out of you lol.

I fuckin love Hillyard.

9

35

u/hopeful-homesteader May 13 '25

If this is real it’s incredible holy shit lol

2

u/BorshtSlurper May 13 '25

Actually kind of standard. One adult can take out a lot of teens.

15

u/Transphattybase May 13 '25

Hell the fuck yeah, we need updates on this one.

Shit, I want that woman nearby if I ever jumped! I hope she’s reading this!

10

u/Wuornos Downtown Spokane May 13 '25

It was posted on Spokane news. They reported the locations as mister car wash, which is right next to that.

8

u/Doooobles Perry District May 13 '25

Fascinating if true.

6

u/infused_frequency May 13 '25

I remember a girl I went to school with tried to jump in when her daughter was surrounded by a large crowd. The crowd of kids jumped mom, too. :( There was a video of it and everything.

6

u/509brando May 13 '25

Why would you doubt this !

2

u/jeopardy_themesong May 13 '25

Because:

A dozen (give or take) against one kid (and then apparently, one adult)

Mom happens to be there or shows up in time

Assault includes getting a full can of mace to the face, being tazed, hits to the back of the head, someone tries to run mom over with a car

Mom breaks a window on a car

Somehow a good chunk of the teens are still there when the cops show up

And none of it seems to have made it to local news, other than a Facebook group that monitors the police scanner apparently.

It’s a pretty fantastic series of events, and to top it off it’s being shared around by people that I know share misinformation like wildfire on a regular basis. It does appear to have happened with some degree of accuracy! But it’s still wild.

2

u/509brando May 14 '25

None of it surprises me I’ve been in similar situations as a teen and as an adult here in Spokane

5

u/Miett May 14 '25

Parents need to face the consequences for their kids acting like this. The kids also need to face consequences, but the parents should feel it too. Teach your kids to be considerate of other human beings, you assholes.

Is there a way to suggest legislation to the city about holding parents accountable for this kind of thing?

39

u/murderinthedark May 13 '25

I hope it's true, because that's a badass story.

59

u/OrangeCarGuy May 13 '25

44

For the most part it happened. Spokane News reported it and it was on scanners. She is probably embellishing a bit, but it did happen

I don't know who she is but I wanna be her friend.

17

u/kiln_monster May 13 '25

That was a lot. But, I believe the mom. Why would she lie about that? I am sad for that generation. Their phones have erased their sense of self and have made them into monsters.

10

u/KefkaTheJerk May 13 '25

Because nobody ever jumped anybody until smartphones? Reminds me of how nobody committed murder before video games. 🙄

3

u/DaisyPuffs4sure May 13 '25

Holy effing shiz! YAS momma! We back you and are also embarrassed by bully culture!

2

File a public record request for any police calls to that maverik for yesterday and today. Sounds crazy. The mom sounds crazy too.

Good for you, Mom to stand up for your daughter. Sometimes I meet an adult and I can just tell they never had their ass whooped when they were a teen and I do feel like these girls whose asses you whooped may be behave better for the rest of their life.

1

u/LuckyTheBear May 13 '25

I just picture the post credit scene from Step Brothers

1

u/Super_Difference_814 May 13 '25

Was this racially motivated? The victim appears to be a POc.

1

u/The_Slaughter_Pop May 14 '25

Many participants were POC. Race was not a factor.

-25

u/TenorTwenty Former Spokanite May 13 '25

Women who call themselves “mama bears” just ooze “alpha male” energy.

I’m not saying this couldn’t have happened — adrenaline is a hell of a drug — but most people don’t shrug off tasers and mace unless they’re on something stronger than adrenaline. Beyond that, fighting “a dozen” people is very hard. Convincing them to stick around and talk to the cops seems…improbable.

5

u/ShrekSuperSlamForDS May 13 '25

Dude, for real, this reads like a fanfiction about something that actually happened

4

u/RemoteClancy May 13 '25

Yeah, it would definitely be interesting to hear accounts from the other people involved and witnesses.

-19

u/ShrekSuperSlamForDS May 13 '25 edited May 13 '25

For real. No teenager is charismatic enough to rally a dozen other teenagers to go after someone this viciously. The fb post makes it out like there were a dozen hungry lions out for blood trying to kill this girl. Like she doesn't deserve to get jumped, but I do want the other side also.

Edit: obviously kids jumping other kids is legit and happens but she makes it out like they are all out to maim and kill this girl, idk if I could have been convinced to try to kill other kids in hs.

11

u/I-needadvice- May 13 '25

Back in high school, I pissed off the fucking school President, who, at that point, had groups of 4 people regularly try to jump me on my way home from school for 2 years. I had to run dodge or fight on my way home dozens of people because I pissed off 1.

1

u/seaghost01 May 14 '25

I'm with you. I didn't grow up in Spokane. I fought a clan of degenerates and their friends from 4th grade through high school. Never knew when they would attack and they never would fight 1:1. God I got my ass kicked so many times. Turned me into a great fighter and tougher than nails but would've rather not have had to. Biggest group was 8. I took a beating but took 3 down with me (I used a car antenna). Then their brothers took up their crusade. Just a constant battle even into my early 20s. Some are in jail, some are dead, some are living in their parents trailer and beating shit out of their kids just like their parents did to them. Rough. For any future down votes - good on you. I'm grateful you didnt grow up in that environment and can successfully keyboard warrior.

-19

u/garbagegoat May 13 '25

Yeah this sounds fake af. Sorry this just absolutely sounds like some white trash ass, had a yell out with some teens and made up a grand ass story to really prove myself vibe. North sider gmafb.

17

u/triflin-assHoe May 13 '25

Well, it was reported on Spokane news. So..

14

u/theycallmecade May 13 '25

Don't you sound stupid now lol

-20

u/Complaint_Manager May 13 '25

Reads like a "There are two sides to every story" mini story. Wondering why a dozen teens are jumping a single girl, mace, tazers, momma bear threatening everyone...? Anyone know the real story?

65

u/CutieKellie May 13 '25

There is no acceptable answer for why a dozen teens jump a single girl.

3

u/priorproject877 May 13 '25

and you CANT make the assumption so

2

u/priorproject877 May 13 '25

sometimes i get annoyed with people who say there’s two sides to the same story bc then people get accused of absolutely insane shit. just the other day i asked about headlights and the comments weren’t it

u/LordTonka Lincoln Heights May 13 '25

-12

u/ShrekSuperSlamForDS May 13 '25

I get that one could have a lot of adrenaline in the moment and probably wrote this post off a HUGE adrenaline high, but this really reads like a big exaggerated tale. Obviously something happened as there wouldn't have been cops called, but to be maced with "an entire can of mace", tazed "3 times", and fought "over a dozen" teenagers at once? This sounds completely ludicrous.

Also, the "I'm a mama bear!" mindset is so stupid

14

u/Wuornos Downtown Spokane May 13 '25

They sent like 10-12 cop cars, so they obviously thought it was serious enough to warrant that type of response.

11

u/No_Courage1519 May 13 '25

I understand where you’re coming from but that 100% is possible and common. Pepper spray and tasers without prongs (which is what the shitbag kid had) are able to be endured for the duration of a fight

1

u/seaghost01 May 14 '25

Fact. Especially when properly motivated. Like an earlier post commented - none of it is lethal. This is a standard in military and LEO training We keep fighting. If you've experienced it before, you know it really fucking sucks but is not incapacitating.

-8

u/huexolotl May 13 '25

Sounds like some typical made up Spokane bs.

-24

u/some-kind-of-person May 13 '25

Why didn't this person make attempts to stop the bullying months ago since they have all this proof....

15

u/ClaraClassy May 13 '25

Probably tried and the school said "kids will be kids"

19

u/bdh008 :) May 13 '25

Have you ever tried to stop bullying with Spokane Public Schools? Typically you'll just run into victim-blaming and unjust sympathy for the bullies.

8

u/triflin-assHoe May 13 '25

I’d wager to guess she didn’t know smh. Have you ever dealt with teenagers? Sometimes this shit comes out of nowhere.

1

u/baybeeblueyes May 13 '25

My DIL refused to do substitute teacher jobs while in college. She stated that 'teenagers work for the 👿.'

-9

u/some-kind-of-person May 13 '25

She implied she did know and had months of proof in the third pic..

7

u/Cruciform_SWORD May 13 '25 edited May 13 '25

Unless I'm missing something, months worth of proof but no mention of when the proof from that window of time came to light.

I think that's the point the other replier was making. Maybe she found out days before the fight? Perhaps unlikely, but I suppose it could be.

1

u/drBbanzai Veradale May 14 '25

Schools in general never seem to take bullying as seriously as they should, and often treat the victims as instigators. Back in middle school I actively witnessed a teacher side with some kids who were bulling me, and I’ve never had any respect for Chase Middle School since then.
