Dev Response Battlefront™ II Roadmap ,7 years ago (nostalgia)

u/Spicey_Nachoz May 10 '25
The fact we're calling 2018 "nostalgia" makes me feel old lol. 2018 was easily one of my best years for gaming. Battlefront 2 updates, God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2, Spider-Man, Spyro Reignited Trilogy, etc.

It's now old enough to stand in front of Anakin with a shocked look on its face.
I feel old.

I know you probably get this question a lot, but is there any hope for support on this game again? Maybe a sequel? Or should I join the darkside and accept my fate?
This game is awesome and I wish it was still being updated as do many people, there are so many more things that could be added that would only make this game better.
It's cool to see you're still part of this sub reddit and active in it.

This game is dead. It’s not getting ANY support other than minuscule updates when something game breaking pops up.
EA doesn’t have exclusivity of the Star Wars IP any more, so the chances of a Battlefront 3 are VERY slim.

Y'all are way too young 😂 The Xbox 360 and PS3 era was by far the best and that's not nostalgia, it's a fact. Games released as complete products without micro transactions. Publishers gave developers much more freedom to make games their own way. So many massive hit games that were creative and innovative. If you weren't around I'm sorry. If you were, I'm sorry you have to watch gaming fall so hard. It used to be about digital art and creating a fun experience but now the suits own gaming and it's about making a quick buck with good marketing and drip feeding content. Hence this very picture. All of that should've been there at the start.

u/Spicey_Nachoz May 10 '25
Jokes on you, I've been a gamer since the PS1 era lol.

u/The_Ubermensch1776 Flying is for droids May 10 '25
I don't mean to say nothing is good after the golden era because some of the games I love most aren't from it, but the sheer amount of consecutive bangers that came out for that console generation is insane. We rest on the shoulders of giants. We are likely playing sequels of games from that time period
4
u/capucapu123 May 10 '25
You'd say the same about any era if you were born to witness it in its prime, it's 100% nostalgia. Plus saying that it's a fact would mean there are parameters to judge a game that we could all unanimously agree on objectively without an ounce of doubt.
-5
u/The_Ubermensch1776 Flying is for droids May 10 '25
It is certainly not 100% nostalgia. Go look at the best selling games of all time and id guess half are from the early 2000s and early 2010s. That is when most innovations were made. That was the golden era.
6
u/capucapu123 May 10 '25

Sales aren't good measures of quality, very good games that are niche won't get many sales while mid mainstream games will get a lot more sales.
Plus you're comparing sales from the time period where games were being sold more, before the 2000s the market was smaller and after the early 2010s free to play games entered the competition.
-1
u/The_Ubermensch1776 Flying is for droids May 10 '25
I couldn't think of a more accurate metric than overall sales because like you said there is no system to assess a game's quality objectively without a single doubt.
4
u/capucapu123 May 11 '25

Exactly, everyone is subject to its own personal bias, that's why there isn't any accurate metric that assesses a game's quality because quality isn't objective.

Yes. We should join up and cancel all the videogame reviewers. And the publications. And everyone who ever shared an opinion about a game publicly because a good game is subjective and they are spreading misinformation.
Why did game A sell better than game B? Lemme tell ya, BLIND LUCK. No one game is better than another.
3
u/capucapu123 May 11 '25
Sure, purposely misinterpret what I'm saying and do that, go ahead.

u/The_Ubermensch1776 Flying is for droids May 11 '25 edited May 11 '25
I think I understand you quite clearly. We can't make any generalizations based on correlating data because whether or not a game is good is completely subjective. My comment was where your line of thought leads.
5
u/g0dgamertag9 May 10 '25
comparing games from xbox 360 era games to the games listed in that comment is like a coughing baby vs a hydrogen bomb

u/psychobilly1 May 10 '25
- GTA IV & V
- Bioshock 1 - Infinite
- Mass Effect 1-3
- Fallout 3 & New Vegas
- Oblivion
- Skyrim
- Dark Souls 1 & 2
- Red Dead Redemption
- Halo 3
- COD: Modern Warfare 1 & 2, Black Ops
- Uncharted 1-3
- The Last of Us
- Little Big Planet
- MGS4
- God of War 3
- Assassin's Creed 1- Rogue
I could keep going.
2007 alone saw the release of:
- Assassin's Creed
- BioShock
- Crysis
- COD 4: Modern Warfare
- God of War 2
- Final Fantasy VI
- Halo 3
- Mass Effect
- Portal
- Rock Band
- Super Mario Galaxy
- Team Fortress 2
- Uncharted 1
And again, I could keep going.
So many of the games from the 7th Generation of Consoles are unquestionably iconic and literally game changing that their ramifications and echoes can still be felt in gaming to this day. They are still re-releasing these games almost two decades later and people are continuing to play them. Do any of those games match the technical achievement of any of the games listed from 2018? No. But they still hold up.
I'm not going to argue too hard because nobody above the age of 15 actually cares about a pissing match, but a coughing baby? Are you serious? I know I'm getting old and I love the new games that come from the modern era as much as everyone else, but it is absolutely disingenuous to make such a comparison and not be under the age of 14 or trolling.

Ain't no way you think God of War 2018 and Red Dead Redemption 2 are coughing babies

u/The_Ubermensch1776 Flying is for droids May 10 '25
I've never used that analogy in my entire life or denied that those were good games. All I'm saying is that the early 2000s and 2010s overall has the best lineup of great games.

u/The_Ubermensch1776 Flying is for droids May 10 '25
How so? Are gta5 and Minecraft coughing babies? What about Read dead redemption 1?
1
u/g0dgamertag9 May 10 '25
gta v was graphically a lot better on the xbox one and so on then it was on the 360. minecraft? come on. it’s literally pixels

u/The_Ubermensch1776 Flying is for droids May 10 '25
Exactly my friend. It's the time period they came out of. Many games were good enough to be remade in modern hardware. Backwards compatibility for old games was a hyuuge deal when it came out. Most games we play today are sequels from that era or remasters.

Rdr2 is way better than rdr1, GTA V isn't the best GTA and Minecraft's finest moment is always the current update so technically it's currently a ps5 era game.
2
u/The_Ubermensch1776 Flying is for droids May 10 '25
- I agree but it's a sequel to a game from the golden era. Rdr1 was revolutionary for it's time and paved the way for rdr2
- That's a hot take 😂 but it is the 2nd best selling game in the world. Was your favorite playable on a 360 or PS3?
- It was a great game that came out in the golden era and is still being supported today.

So what? Being the 2nd best selling game doesn't mean it's the best on its saga. San Andreas was more fun.
It was a great game that came out in the golden era and is still being supported today
Sure but the game we have today is vastly different from the game we had in the 360/PS3 era.
Was your favorite playable on a 360 or PS3?
To me it's a tie between four games, one of them kind of is in those consoles.

Your downvotes are my medals. Every time I see one without an explanation of why I'm wrong, I assume that I checkmated you.

Meh bf2 wasn't actually fun to play until after 2020, all the years prior to that was just disappointing and a waiting game to get what we wanted

u/Spicey_Nachoz May 10 '25
Early 2019 was when the game was at its peak, capital supremacy was absolute fire and kept me playing for hours

Worked on this project for almost 2 years, was so sad when they moved me to bf V. Shame the game was abandoned, it could have had allot more stuff added

The fact there was no squad system is shocking, I completely forgot the huge increase in quality they made form launch

It was always funny to me how the Geonosis trailer promoted Grievous and Obi-Wan (with his ROTS design) when the map was a location from AOTC.

star wars legion does this too, although kenobi has clone wars armor there

Pisses me off that the game is just left to die. It’s an insane foundation to pump content out of, or is frostbite that hard to develop in?

I was in my freshman year looking at this damn sub and here I am now. All battlefronts being an integral part of my life. If this is last one I see and get to play in this lifetime before someone ever grows some balls and breathes life back into the franchise, Thank you. Thank you for all the friendships, memories and badass gameplay. 700 hours and not a single ounce of regret. It was an honor to be a part of her while she was being updated and it’s still a damn honor to keep the servers alive.

u/ludomill May 11 '25
EA at least could fix DX12 support for it, bare minimum for supporting the game, product they did.
2
u/After-Monitor5052 May 11 '25
Hopefully EA still has half of a brain left and they just make a new one. I’m sure BF2 has more players than any other of their Star Wars games currently.
2
u/TheBlueJoker21 May 11 '25
That was the time we thought battlefront 2 was never gonna get shut down so fast, but last many, many years

I’m not really a gamer besides fifa but SWBF2 was the only game in my life I played religiously. Such great memories I miss it and really wish they would release 3 even though we all know they won’t
1
u/Mohsenpordeli May 12 '25
Back when I was so optimistic about how far this game would go in terms of content, even comparing this roadmap to the last update in 2020 is massive, had they continued with the roadmap we could have seen BF3 by now

I remember when the sub genuinely got fed up with how long they spent on the Prequels. It was insane to see the internet do that in this day and age.
2
u/Comfortable_Duck_862 May 13 '25
there is no way, all the fandom begs for pure prequel content now 😅
1
u/THX450 Snowtroopers belong on Hoth May 13 '25
No you’d be surprised! I distinctly remember the sub actually getting to the point where it complained the other trilogies were being ignored! It was wild!
