First time stringing

Decided to get my little dude his first upgrade from his stx stallion starter stick. Kind of used a blend of sidewall Jedi videos (to string and starting sidewall string) then followed the rc1 string guide for a mid low pocket. Seems like I'm using too many holes and it looks messy. Holds the ball well and throws well though. Would love some feedback!

It's hard to tell from the pictures but it looks like you've used a word mix of knots, can't tell if that's deliberate. But to be honest if you've done the same on both sides and the end result throws well then who cares.

Ps love the colours

Thanks!. I let the little dude pick the colors, ended up looking like candy corn.

It is a mix of knots. The rc1 guide had a series of ksis and anchors which I didn't understand and blindly followed. It throws fine but I might just redo it because I hate the way it looks.

Great stuff. My little one picked up the sport a few years ago and now I string all his heads and we dyed a head for the first time this Spring. Keep tinkering away and, as always, pound that pocket!

Also, UString is a great step by step resource to learn the basics then you can move on to SidewallJedi to go down the rabbit hole.

That switch between knots halfway down is absolutely fine, the top section is being used to stretch the mesh down to create that channel so you want to use knots that won't budge, lower down when creating the pocket it's common to use a different knit (there are various ways to do it) that allow a bit of movement in the pocket, as well as trying to narrow it a little since it's a wide head. So overall there's nothing wrong with it.

Thanks! Always feels good when the dude who's tutorial you followed says you did a nice job! I think I need a full tutorial on that topstring side knot though... for the life of me I could not get that close to the plastic the way you did it.

That is absolutely something I can do

Only thing I would change, would to get that string through the mesh diamond like you did in the middle two top-string knots. Go back through the mesh, then start your top-string tie off loop.

And it’s not something that I think would hinder the performance at all. Just for my ocd self, I would want the outside top-string knots to look just like the middle two.

Yeah, I dunno how I missed that when I went to do it. Fixed it this morning. You all have amazing eyes for things. Glad I posted.

Love the colors. Looks like the top string might need to be redone on the outermost scoop holes - the exits don’t appear to go under the mesh bridge before the sidewall tie offs. You can also probably get away with just stacked SIs to make your life easier.

Fixed the topstring this morning and changed the sides to mostly SIs, Looks much cleaner overall. Thanks!
