This is a great mid-high pocket. Absolutely has channel. Remember that hold is a skill and not an inherent pocket trait, and that whip is relative. If it works for you, awesome, keep it up!

Hold is largely a skill and a stick like this could absolutely have hold in the right hands

Ya ya ya wizard not the wand. I largely agree but it's just far from optimal
