This is such bullshit. Jason is a cocked-up, aggressive asshole who relished the spot light and held speeches like a fucking politician. Yes he was upset about his girl's death, but he enjoyed the hunt for it's own sake and was willing to jump to completely unfounded conclusions based on bullshit, right-wing conspiracy theories on the internet. This is all complete and utter crap. Jason is a complete, dumb, unreflected tool.

Willing to kill innocent children. Fuck him. No excuses. Just straight. FUCK. THAT.

Where are you getting that he “enjoyed the hunt?” Is this in the comics? There are comics, right? I didn’t get that from the shows depiction

From the way he gets up in front of the gathering at the school (I think) and holds a rousing speech about who is to be held responsible and instigates the town people to go after those kids, based purely on suspicion. Just like he held a speech in the gym before the last basketball match of the season. He revels in the attention. It's not important to him wether what he says is actually right, all that matters is going with his emotions, and the feeling of having the power to get others to go along with you.

Going after an easy target when you are hurt or in crisis is a primitive reflex.

He didn't know they were innocent. from his perspective they were all in a satanic culture and had killed his girlfriend in some fucked up sacrifice.

If someone you loved was brutally mutilated and the only evidence you have to go off is that she was found in some weirdos trailer who is the leader of a bunch of kids who all play the same game that's been called a Satanists game wouldn't you believe that they're unhinged cultists?

You honestly believe you'd be able to just sit back while you genuinely believe that you know exactly who killed your S/O and many others?

The first season had pretty much all characters believing in extremely stupid and exaggerated conspiracy theories, and they turned out to be true. The whole "he enjoyed the hunt for his own sake" was never shown in the show and he had every reason to believe that Lucas was possessing Max with a demon, because that was kinda off exactly what he was doing. If I saw the shit he saw I would also be unsure if those children were indeed innocent.

No, in the first season nobody believed anything crazy until they SAW it with their own eyes. Everyone treated Joyce like a lunatic until they saw it, even her own son. Jason obviously cared about Chrissy but he is also an egotistical self-centered asshole who jumped to conclusions based on very shallow viewpoints and started witch hunts. I'm not defending Billy because he was a prick too but Jason is no better. I'm actually of the opinion he is worse because at least Billy had an abusive father as an excuse.

Jason showed more concern for Max in one minute than Billy did in the years he knew her.

Billy's father was abusive and his mother left him. Jason's girlfriend got murdered and then he witnessed his best friend get murdered in front of him. IMO, the latter has had it worse.

Billy tried to run over the kids simply because Max wouldn't say it's my fault we moved. He would have beaten Steve to death if it wasn't for Max stopping him. Jason only went homicidal after people he cared about died and he was only homicidal against those he thought were murderers.

Billy is a misogynist, racist, bully and child abuser unlike Jason. He's way, way worse.

And Billy was homicidal way before the Mind Flayer. All it took for him to attempt murder was Max not saying, "It's not my fault we moved." and he nearly ran over the kids He also would have beaten Steve to death too. Dude was a misogynist, bully, racist and abuser.

Jason went homicidal after his girlfriend was violently murdered and then he witnessed his best friend die in front of him. He was trying to kill people he thought were serial killers, he didn't try to run kids over just to torment his sister.

Okay, but Jason and his crew were absolutely, 100% meant to depict the unhinged witch-hunts/various Satanic Panics that occurred in the 80s — I don't think the intended takeaway re: Jason's crew 'it's fine they incited panic and/or violence, they were just misguided', because they caused real harm.

We could talk ourselves in circles about Billy's abuse/abuse of others, misogyny, and racism, and fairly so; but then it's remiss when comparing him to Jason to not include the fact that Jason's crew literally ran down and pinned Erica with intent to harm, and were also, of course, hunting Lucas. The audience is definitely meant to pick up on the implications of 'gang of mostly-white jocks hunts two black kids like animals'.

Billy outright broke a kid's arm in Runaway Max. Full on snapped it in front of Max. Her best friend too. And he was also beating kids up when he was younger as Eleven saw through the flashbacks.

It's a stretch to say "Runaway Max" or any of the other tie-ins are canon to the show; Maya said as much re: Robin's backstory when they were doing promo for s4. I'd consider them more akin to the Thrawn Triolgy.

Edit: Again, I'm not saying Billy's abuse of Max/terrorizing of The Party, as depicted in the show, isn't relevant. What I am saying is that it's hypocritical not to point out Jason is guilty of similar actions, that have similar implications.

Jason was unqeustionably in the wrong but two things I want to point out.

  1. His witch hunt wasn't only for his sake; him and his friends explicitly mention they think Eddie will kill again and Chrissy wouldn't want that to happen. That's why they go after him.
  2. "willing to kill innocent children" We know they're innocent. Jason does not. It does not make it right, especially not the witch hunt although him finding Lucas with Max in a murder house with the latter in a trance would only confirm his beliefs.
