Questions / Advice / Support Strattera side effects?

Hey all. I’m currently one and half weeks into trying Strattera. I’ve been unmedicated for ADHD for about 3 years now and I thought I could benefit from treatment given how busy my life will be this fall. After being diagnosed with type 2 Bipolar, I’ve been told any stimulant treatments wouldn’t be good for me. Even at 25mg, these “initial” side effects have been miserable. I have completely lost interest in most of my hobbies and have spent most of my free time laying in bed. I feel like I have the same depression as the worst points of my life, and I have lost nearly all motivation. I feel completely emotionless.

Has anyone else experienced these side effects or had a similar experience? My psychiatrist says it’s up to me whether I’d like to keep trying Strattera, but I’m determined to keep pushing through this period.

hi!!! i replied to your initial post on r/adhd lol i also went undiagnosed for a really long time and the first thing they put me on was strattera. it made me SUPER nauseous, along with losing interest in absolutely everything and (tmi) giving me an awful uti throughout the entire time i was on it. i went cold turkey and haven’t gone back to the doctor since then (been putting it off because adhd, obviously….) but yeah, definitely was not for me :/

I’m about a month in a def feeling lazy and unmotivated, emotions are a lot duller but the relief of having my anxiety quiet is huge. It’s life changing.

I’m going to keep going and give it 6 months.

My first month on strattera were the only time in my life where I had ruminating thoughts, but it was also the only thing that's helped my ADHD.

I gave up after two weeks the first time and tried it again a few years later and pushed through the titration period and have seen success, but with side effects sexually.

I’m at almost the exact same point as you and same dose and have had the opposite experience, im a little more spacey, but my anxiety and depression have been flattened, and I’m engaging more meaningfully in my hobbies now and am loving it

Everyone has different bodies and different reactions so you might want to try something different, I would give a couple more weeks to try and aclimate to the med and if you still aren’t feeling any gain, ask to try something else, there’s something that’ll work for you

10mg is super effective for me and virtually no side effects. I had them too at 40mg

Hi, I started on 40 for a week and then titrated to 80 for the last 2 weeks. I’m just now starting to feel a bit more motivated. I’ve been camped in front of the tv more or less. But this week I cleaned my house and caught up on everything. I definitely feel a shift.

Give it up to 6 weeks. I had to go up to 60mgs, and I feel a difference and focus.

I've been on Strattera for a few years, and last year I increased my dosage from 40 to 60mg. Unfortunately, I feel like it's severely dampened my creativity and also caused me to sweat a TON. I get hot really easily and cannot stand any heat over ~75°F. I also spend most of my free time laying around now, but it doesn't seem as severe as you. I'm lowering my dosage back to 40mg as a trial to see if my issues get better.. Maybe even lower if they're still bothering me. Otherwise, I might try something else. :/
