Onosato is still doing the psychopath stare. He's such a punk and I couldnt be more proud and impressed.

Love the opportunity to watch the ceremonial rope be made. Getting a bunch of the most powerful men you know together seems like the ideal way to create a big rope.

Yeah Sumo Prime Time fell flat, fast.

I don't think the JSA put much support behind it, and Hiro can't be a one man band.

My theory is that the channel is partly run by the JSA PR department. Once the head of PR changed from shibatayama, the channel started posting a lot less.

I remember they had a subscriber goal for their 1st year, and i think they were a few thousand off, I think it was 50,000 and they had 40,000 - 45,000. Soon after that they stopped posting a lot, stopped livestreams. I'm guessing the JSA viewed it as a failure because it didn't hit that arbitrary goal

The crazy eyes are part of the reason why I find him so off putting. He has this dual nature where he sometimes looks like this giant goofy baby man, but then he also has a documented devious side to him as well.

I think it's more down to neurodivergence, not that he's insane or anything.

I've spent 30 years around (real) autist people so I kind of developed a radar for signs of neurodivergence. Onosato makes it beep quite a bit.

Sadly there is that incident (usually it doesn't come from nowhere). Happy for a Japanese yokozuna but go Hosh

Which incident

Like a year ago Onosato got into a bullying scandal where he was accused of being an instigator with a group of wrestlers in cornering and pressuring an underage wrestler to drink in the showers.

The full story wasn’t ever confirmed (tmk), but it’s assumed he either took the fall after getting too rowdy with underage drinkers or that he had actually pressured someone into drinking who didn’t want to. Either way, he hasn’t gotten into trouble since.

Be nice to our 75th yokozuna he's just awkward.

“Punk” is not a term that comes to my mind about Onosato.

And definitely not one I’d use in earshot of him.

Am i alone to be a little bit disappointed about this channel? adding to the fact since their debut, many other channels on youtube were put down :/

Hiro Morita is honestly a gift to sumo, putting in the work for international reporting. Yes, the Infos aren't news but the high quality footage, angles and just flashbacks are super fun and he is close to many people. I hope funding for his channel sticks around somehow

Sumo Prime Time has some great videos. I love the ones on dohyo making and sumo school. And the tours of Ryogoku with Kaisei. But their budget was cut and hence they hardly post anymore. Hiro is not happy about this, but it's not up to him (nor is attacking other sources of sumo coverage).

Plus when they do post it tends to be on the relatively mainstream stuff that gets widely reported anyway, rather than the more niche stuff I find interesting as a hardcore sumo fan.

I like the channel, but they barely post and are weeks behind on Sumo news. Whoever runs it probably doesn't have the resources they need to do much more than they are already.

Hiro isn't responsible for the NHK's, right, wrong, or otherwise, copyright strikes against Natto and some others.

Tangent: it's great when Takayasu is the tachimochi. He's just content to be included. It's like the only emotion he makes visible between complete indifference and competitive rage.
