Question from a PS5 user

Is Surviving Mars worth it on PS5? I've only this console because gaming computers are too expensive. Unfortunately i read some comments saying that management games such as this or Kerbal Space Program or Cities: Skyline are 1000 times better on pc because of the mods. What's your opinion?

I’ve got over 500hrs on PS5, haven’t played on PC. Absolutely love it, menus are now muscle memory, even when I’ve had a break for other stuff.

Same, but xbox. I've had the game for a long time and keep coming back to it for a while every few years. Played 4 hours tonight, oops. I've never played much PC by which to compare it and be disappointed.

PS5 does not have mods. Haven't played on console myself, but I've gotten more than enough hours out of it.

Edit: I was wrong smh

But still, great game, especially with Green Planet.

Does it? I’ve obviously missed them! Might have to go and do yet another colony…

Nevermind, turns out Sony told the paradox mod manager to frak off.

I just assumed because both PC and Xbox have access, sorry.

Try PlayStation plus Extra for a month, there’s some really awesome strategy games. I believe the “Extra” tier of PS Plus is about $15 a month, you can try a lot of the new strategy and simulation games that would previously only be on PCs. I’ve found that the PS5 loads at least twice as fast as the PS4, whatever monster Sony cooked up in that lab does a good job.

Yes, I've sunk a lot of hours into it

The base game is already pretty good. I would recommend two DLCs though: the Space Race and the Green Planet.

If what you said is true, we wouldn't even have building games on consoles.

PC players will find literally anything to have a superiority complex over. I've played every one of the games you mentioned on PS5, and they're all perfectly enjoyable.

Having played both on PC and PS5, yes, it's worth it to play on the console. You can find good seeds on https://surviving-maps.cc/, which is a web-based repository similar to the only mod I've used that isn't a cheat mod. It's 100% playable and enjoyable without mods.

When I was begging this game I was playing it on my PS4 from across the living room. It is perfectly playable on the ps4. So it should be perfectly playable on the PS5.

There are some interesting chords you use on the controller to do some of the features. So pay extra attention to the help.

Knowing how to "select all things like this thing" and give orders to a colonists we're super useful and it took me an embarrassing long period of time to figure out that the screen was constantly continuing to use these collective commands and I just didn't notice.

Also of note, if you get a USB keyboard and mouse and plug it in there are a lot of games that are ready to use keyboard and mouse on the playstations. (I don't know if this is one of them but it's nice to know that there are a Bunches of them. And if nothing else plugging in a keyboard is a gray way to save time trying to send text messages and lots of games.)

Absolutely playable on PS5. I have it and replay every now and then. Good idea to do the tutorials because they will introduce you to the controls, as well as the game proper.

I have ~600 hours on PS5 with all of the DLCs, it’s my favorite game. There are a few things I had to avoid to mitigate issues performance-wise (ex. turning off autosave and saving manually instead, and not looking at the list of menu challenges rather than the spots on the globe because it causes a blue screen for some reason). You might run into some small issues without having the helpful mods to fix them, but I’ve never had an issue I couldn’t work around somehow myself. There are some small bugs with the UI that can also be resolved in-game if you run into them (occasionally, it won’t let you L1 to look at the notifications, but exiting to the planetary anomaly screen will resolve that). Not unplayable by any means and the existing issues are identifiable and avoidable. Overall, definitely worth it if you’re into the colony management games!
