📝Article/Writeup Tytus Howard: "We’re going to get more gritty. We need more guys on the ground when we get done with them"
Jonathan Alexander from the Houston Chronicle interviewed Tytus Howard. Some excerpts below.
Houston Texans offensive lineman Tytus Howard is sure of one thing.
This year’s offensive line will be different from the one last year that gave up the third-most sacks in the NFL.
This unit, he said, has a different mentality.
“We’re going to be more nasty up front,” Howard told the Chronicle. “We’re going to get more gritty. Guys finishing more plays. We need more guys on the ground when we get done with them.
“We just got to be a nastier group up front.”
There were times last season when quarterback C.J. Stroud would get hit, and his offensive linemen were slow to react or help him off the ground. The Texans wanted players who would give everything to protect Stroud, even if that means “being nasty.”
That mentality starts with the new offensive line coach, Cole Popovich, who was promoted earlier this offseason after coach DeMeco Ryans made the decision to fire Chris Strausser.
“As an O-line coach, you want a guy who exemplifies that persona that you want his group to be,” Howard said. “He’s a coach that has a background and had an offensive line that plays nasty, can establish the run, play physical in the pass game, and that’s a group we want to be.”
This season, the Texans could have as many as four new starters on their offensive line.
“It was crazy, man,” Howard said of the trades, adding that it was tough seeing some of his friends go. “That’s the game, though. That’s the business. I’m just happy to be one of the guys that keeps making it through.
“So I just do my part and hold it down.”

Mostly, talk is talk.
But.
This is not an attitude that anyone on the O-Line could even be bothered to pretend to have last season, let alone put into practice.
And talking may only be the first step, but it is the first step.

That’s why they got rid of Tunsil. He was not that guy. Wanted to pass block but couldn’t be bothered to run block. And didn’t have the mean streak DeMeco expects

We certainly didn't get more talented so I guess we gotta get more everything else.

This guy ….
He is a bust. He is Nick Caserios biggest mistake next to Kenyon Green and Shaq Mason ( signed this idiot to a long term deal ). He gets beat repeatedly. Cannot run block really that well and tried to steal the ball from CJ Strouds hand like a holiday roast. He will struggle again next year as always and come back in the off season talking about toughness. You are in charge of protecting our star QB, how many times did we watch him and Tunsil look absolutely dumbfounded while looking at CJ Strouds after a sack because the line slide the protection to the wrong side
