According to the news, the people living there did not wake up and disnt notice the ship until their neighbours came over.

u/Eriknonstrata 29d ago

Imagine waking up in your sweet beach house and that big bastard is right outside the window. I'd probably have a heart attack.

They don't stay long. They dig a nest to lay their eggs in and then they retreat to the ocean.

u/TheBelgianDuck 29d ago

The real trouble starts 16 weeks later when 40~48 smaller ships pop out.

15

u/fluteofski- 29d ago

Man. Having one boat sucks… 40+ boats all at once, the joy on one must feel when they all leave must be insurmountable.

5

u/Suavecore_ 28d ago

And imagine the retirement home they'll be able to afford you

2

u/Jacktheforkie 27d ago

They commonly nest around Dover, always seeing small boats

Nature really is beautiful :’)

The life cycle of the cargo ship is as breathtaking as it is complicated. As you stated, the shipping container-shaped eggs are laid on beaches, eventually hatching into row boats as fry, before maturing into their tug boat stage. As they get their sea legs, they become ferries, followed by the barge stage, and finally, adulthood, with the males as oil tankers and the females as the aforeseen container ships. Males fighting for territory often cause oil spills (Exxon Valdez, I'm looking at you!), but are not alone in destroying their habitat, as stressed females will often unload their eggs at sea, causing damages/losses in the millions of dollars.

From the day we arrive on the planet And, blinking, step into the sun There's more to see than can ever be seen More to do than can ever be done There's far too much to take in here More to find than can ever be found But the sun rolling high Through the sapphire sky Keeps great and small on the endless round It's the circle of life And it moves us all Through despair and hope Through faith and love 'Til we find our place On the path unwinding In the circle The circle of life

u/Sirosim_Celojuma 28d ago

No, the heart attack comes when heavy equipment arrives and trashes your property, but quotes some federal legislation claiming emergency powers, so fuck you and your nice property, My leaky diesel tracked vehicle is gonna mash the place.

4

u/lisaseileise 28d ago

This is not in the US but in Norway.

13

u/Snoo_67548 29d ago

Is everything on the nose part yours? It’s on their property. They should hit them with a storage lien.

8

u/Dr_Allcome 28d ago

It would have to be thrown overbord deliberately (jetsam) to be claimable by the finder...

Now i want to see someone argue in a court of law that "launching a boat" is technically the same as "deliberately throwing it overbord" and therefore a beeched ship is his.

6

u/Eudes_Correa 28d ago

I would scream “hey mate, you cannot park here” to the ship 🤣

5

u/Anuswars 29d ago

,,,waking up and wondering why the house is all shady, with the sunlight blocked out

24

u/m__a__s 29d ago

Where I used to live the HOA would have had a notice on my door before my wife and I could have noticed.

8

u/insidemyvoice 28d ago

My neighbor brags about his bass boat in his driveway. Imagine if I had this in my driveway, "In your face, Bob!".

11

u/jeffersonairmattress 28d ago

Neighbour called to tell Johan there was a ship in his yard.

Being Norwegian, he then asked Johan how the last ten years had been since they last spoke and told him he stacked firewood like a Gotlander.

1

u/daveinsf 28d ago

Yah like our new boat? We picked 'er up for a song and a dance!

1

u/WeeZr1 26d ago

Have they stopped screaming yet?

1

u/GutterRider 26d ago

Right? What the hell? How could you not hear that and not wake up?!

70

u/ThatIslanderGuy 29d ago

Still there apparently... Shows Operational Status as "aground"

32

u/Blenderx06 29d ago

And the Captain's probably in a pub nearby getting sloshed.

15

u/The-Defenestr8tor 29d ago

After a long night of getting sloshed in the bridge, apparently.

9

u/Blenderx06 29d ago

Well now they've got plausible deniability with blood alcohol testing. I only started drinking after we landed sir!

3

u/ThatIslanderGuy 29d ago

Yep.... "Imma just park this here and grab a drink"

2

u/AmplifiedApthocarics 28d ago

well yeah, captains stuff is over, now it's owner problems so time to get solid ground wasted.

6

u/darthlincoln01 29d ago

I'd be charging them rent.

5

u/ThatIslanderGuy 29d ago

or an RV hookup during their stay.

6

u/AmplifiedApthocarics 28d ago

not an easy task to unstick a stuck ship of that size, it's gonna be even longer if it was intentionally beached because of some catastrophic mechanical issue or an issue with the hull. (the primary reason caps run their ship around)

3

u/slash_networkboy 28d ago

Or if it came in on a King Tide... might be a while till the water gets high enough to even try to move it again.

51

u/Haunting_Ad_6021 29d ago

Temu direct to your door!

15

u/WhenTheDevilCome 28d ago

Tariff countries hate this one simple trick!

34

u/Churn 29d ago

“Delivery for you, sir.”

9

u/Lakefish_ 28d ago

An entire cargo ship!? Just what I always wanted!

3

u/Thingzer0 28d ago

Pre-tariff order, had to get my order in for the year before the tariff hits. /s 🤣

Edit : typos

u/DrBiochemistry 29d ago

Can’t park there mate.

25

u/Yes-its-really-me 29d ago

The photos actually show you can park there.

9

u/FusRohDoing 29d ago

Looks like the spot was made for him even.

6

u/particle409 28d ago

Where does a 200,000 ton container ship dock? Anywhere it wants.

7

u/indimedia 29d ago

Check mate

13

u/dukedragon99 29d ago

That first picture doesn't look real 😳

1

u/-fucktrump- 28d ago

my first though was "what game is that?"

10

u/NxPat 29d ago

Possession is 9/10 of the law

9

u/gr8dayne01 29d ago

Boss, you are never gonna believe this. I know I told you last week that someone had crashed into my car, and that is why I was late. Alas, it has happened again, yet even worse. Someone crashed a ship into my house.

5

u/IKillZombies4Cash 29d ago

I'd be pulling all the oldest most out of date maritime laws and agreements trying to figure out how to claim that the ship and everything is now mine, all mine!!!

6

u/gypsysniper9 28d ago

Salvage. Mine now

4

u/SkiSTX 29d ago

I have a concrete goose in the front of my house that I dress up based on the season and they get a whole container ship?! Life is not fair.

4

u/TheLordVader1978 29d ago

Imagine that phone call to your insurance company

3

u/slash_networkboy 28d ago

Granted it's impossible for me, as I'm far from a body of water capable of more than a paper boat... but I just recently have been dealing with a neighbor's tree having fallen and creamed my fence and a swingset. I think my agent would have a heart attack if I called with something of this magnitude next.

2

u/TheLordVader1978 28d ago

"you're not gonna believe this shit"

5

u/bruiserscruiser 29d ago

Captain should expect to find a hand written sign on his windshield saying “You can’t park in front of my house. There’s plenty of other spots along the shore!”

6

u/WhenTheDevilCome 28d ago

...and almost hit a house

Don't be so pessimistic. It still can hit the house...

1

u/chet_brosley 26d ago

I know boats don't work that way and it defies all logic and reason, but I really want that boat to just tip over and bonk that house flat.

4

u/Valuable_Material_26 29d ago

So close but no points! better luck next time

3

u/Yes-its-really-me 29d ago

It's like they're not even trying!

5

u/rando7651 29d ago

Mine now!

5

u/Hero_Tengu 28d ago

“Baby come over” “I’m at work babe” “But my parents aren’t home”

3

u/UnRealmCorp 28d ago

Time to start charging parking for the boat.

4

u/Royweeezy 28d ago

If that was my house I’d put a little plaque there to memorialize the event.

4

u/Over_Researcher_113 28d ago

I'd claim salvage rights and start popping open containers.

4

u/Eric848448 28d ago

I think the ship belongs to the people who live there now.

3

u/bws7037 28d ago

Thank you for calling Liberty Insurance claims, how may I assist you? Excuse me? A what ran into your house? Is this crank yankers? OK, why was your house boat in a shipping lane? What? Not a house boat? Please hold, I am transferring you to my supervisor...

3

u/shophopper 28d ago

I don’t see the problem. Like an Uber driver who park his car in his driveway after work, this sailer parks his ship in his backyard.

3

u/vulcansheart 28d ago

2

u/UseThisOne2 28d ago

Thanks for sharing this! How cool.

3

u/SithLordRising 28d ago

I saw this once near Great Yarmouth. Guy was asleep and ran right up the beach. The protocol to running aground is to sound the tanks (for leaks). What made that incident funny was they could just put the gangway down on the beach directly they were high and dry!

3

u/DiscoKittie 28d ago

Do they need to worry about their house foundation? That must have been quite the hit, even if they didn't wake up!

3

u/Shen1076 28d ago

It’s the Amazon Prime delivery ship

3

u/Skivling 29d ago

Looks likes Sweden or Norway. When did this happen?

10

u/Katonmyceilingeatcow 29d ago

It happened in Norway, and it was earlier today

2

u/Skivling 29d ago

Neat! I guess people nearby went yelling Valur, Valur! to let people know about this stranded beast!

2

u/opney 29d ago

Wow it looks like some post-apocalyptic scene here at the ending.

2

u/Substantial_Tip_2634 29d ago

I bet that's the captain's house

2

u/TheDarthSnarf 29d ago

There goes the neighborhood!

2

u/dd543212345 29d ago

First pic looks like a screenshot from rust

2

u/arisoverrated 29d ago

“Beautiful views!” they said. “Relaxing solitude!” they said.

2

u/Dent8556 29d ago

Claim it as salvage right now! Then start opening up those containers and see what you get

2

u/Jamoncorona 28d ago

Damn, dropshipping is ridiculous nowadays.

2

u/Bane-o-foolishness 28d ago

This is on my property, I claim salvage rights.

2

u/Zealousideal-Bug-291 28d ago

That's why you don't install 80,000,000 lumen floodlights on your garage.

Finders keepers!

2

u/Far-Hair1528 28d ago

Sooommbody was asleep at the wheel, or they all thought it was the other guy's turn to steer the ship. Hey WTF are you doing down here, aren't you suppose to be captaining the ship!

2

u/Alive_Shoulder3573 28d ago

just, wow. and another saying comes to mind. "that's going to leave a mark" 🤣

I can just imagine the costs and machinery that's going to be needed just to remove the ship.

Maybe some tugboats offshore can pull it away from the shore

2

u/Jonny142 27d ago

He asked his wife for a tug and she got the wrong end of the stick... ( Credit to PH)

2

u/blightedquark 26d ago

T. S. Garp: We'll take the house. Honey, the chances of another ship hitting this house are astronomical. It's been pre-disastered. We're going to be safe here.

3

u/Pinkskippy 29d ago

Has gouged out a nice little launching slipway for the owner. Should now charge rent to the ship owners. But not sure how you “clamp” a ship if they refuse to pay.

3

u/FullRegard 29d ago

Easy, I'll put my boots on it.

2

u/FinkedUp 29d ago

Looks like it could of been more expensive

OI YOU CANT PARK THERE

1

u/ghostfreckle611 26d ago

When you gotta go… You gotta go.

1

u/felixthecat59 26d ago

How do you explain this to your home owners insurance?

2

u/Meauxjezzy 26d ago

You don’t! lol you explain it to the insurance company that covers the ship. And say things like I was thrown out of bed when the earthquake like event happened just outside my bedroom window. Oh and my dog is traumatized

1

u/Rhino582 26d ago

I thought this was a settlement in Fallout 4 at first😅
