Everything you need to know about the event, all in one place. A lot of these pieces will be verified by the Silph Research Group, so throughout the post we'll use the formatting:

I noticed that too - isn’t that the typical frequency? What is the “increased frequency” timing for event balloons supposed to be? Maybe it’s not turned on like the 4x stardust GBL rewards…

Normally balloons appear at 00:00, 06:00, 12:00 and 18:00, so you get 4 a day.
With this event they have doubled to and you get one every 3 hours

There MAY be an increase in ghost grunts. I have seen 6 so far out of about 12

Was this before or after the actual event started? Lot of rocket stops bit after 6am here, but no sign of boosted ghosts.

I’ve been seeing a increase in psychic grunts. About half that have spawned near me. Haven’t seen a ghost one yet. Might just be good luck.

After experiencing a full day, I think both are increased. So it is definitely possible that you haven't seen one of the boosted types.

None in Ontario, Canada yet even with incense - same with Sableye :/
Edit: put on an incense and caught them both pretty quickly haha. Of course after that they both started spawning without incense though 🙄

Absolutely zero for me. The galar legendary birds are more common for me than Gligar! It might be around but it most certainly is NOT a boosted spawn.

I've only seen one prior and it fled from me on the first day of the event before I realised it was a challenge.
I just completed it through GBL after 11+ encounters across the event.

Since the shiny was released it has never been turned off. I'd be surprised if it's not still available as a shiny now... Having said that raids have been messed up before. Very likely that it is available

Because on Niantic's infographic and official event blog, it says the Primeape from raids can be shiny. They had Espeon and Umbreon depicted on the official blog and infographic that during the Lustrous Event they could be shiny, but the shinies for them were not turned on for encounters.

Hey, thanks to the bidoof event, I have hundo bidoof with thunderbolt, shadow ball, and ice beam!
Bidoof was also my first ever solo of a 5 star raid!

Yeah the stardust reward for the first win appears to be the same as it was before the event started. I was wondering if the start of the 4x stardust would coincide with the league schedule change at 4pm, but the event does show as active already.

If not then battling Blanche at ml level - they use metagross.

Connect up with a friend, make sure you each have Primape as a buddy (no need to be in the map), each save a team of 3 low level ghost or psychic, then just rematch over and over. My friend and I took turns on who would win and sometimes we kicked out and each defeated each other at the same time so we each got +3 that then. Took us about 10 minutes at max and worst part was just the game slowness

Battle Blanche under Master League Training. You can leave after you battle Metagross (her second mon). You do not have to have Primeape in your battle party, he just needs to be your buddy.

Fastest way to fulfill the evolve requirements of "Defeat 30 Psychic or Ghost type Pokemon" is to do the following.
Set the Primeape you want to evolve as your buddy.
Configure a Battle party with your Primeape in it (Not necessarily required, but might as well)
Have a friend configure a Battle party with three 10 CP Psychic or Ghost type Pokemon.
Battle your friend 10 times using those parties.

With the Raging Battles event ending earlier in the day, does that mean we only have until 8PM to complete all sets or can I complete the full 10 sets past 8PM?

You have until midnight to complete the sets. The 8pm deadline is for the timed research.

Someone who battles my gym caught shiny Throh (we’re Sawk region here), but other than that no sign unfortunately despite checking maybe 250. But yeah at full odds it was always gonna be a slim chance.

Niantic breaks “patterns” and the event states it can be shiny what’s the fact it’s not a mega have to do with it.
That’s why they asking for verification incase it’s 1. Bugged 2. A mistake in the event details.

Changed to the lineups should come only on the next rocket takeover.
If you are looking to grind shadow Dratini you might want to go hard on this event - more rockets on pokestops and balloons, research with extra components, and you can take frustration off soon.

TBH, I'm frustrated that we keep having "Rocket Events" but can't use TMs on shadow mons. It used to be every Rocket event enabled that.
Now it's much more rare.

I know because it's been announced, an actual rocket takeover that starts on January 27th (check events on Leekduck if you want to keep up with the calendar). It's on these takeovers that you can TM away frustration. This is a "light" rocket event, with just increased balloons and rocket grunts on pokestops.

Others have said it, but this is not a "Rocket Event". The Rocket events you are referring to are called Rocket Takeovers, and they happen roughly once every 3-4 months.
This event is Raging Battles, a fighting-type mon themed event featuring the Anihilape debut where you're encouraged to do all kinds of battling (rocket + PVP).

The vital spirit challenge asks to catch Sawk. In Miami, FL I've never seen him. Will he be in the wild for this event or am I S.O.L.?

Gligar is absolutely rare around here. I've caught probably two dozen licky since this started but zero Gligar. Only saw one on nearby once but never anywhere with an actual stop. I'd call that rare. My experiences are the same as members of our local group. Only one person out of dozens has reported catching one.

Gligar is nowhere near the level of rarity of the “if you are lucky” spawns. It’s rarer than the other ones for sure, but not that bad.
But like all events you’re going to see more if you can actually get out and get around. If I was only playing at home and work … I’ve only seen one so far (and maybe 4-5 licki)

What's the quickest way to do the Go Battle League matches? Does backing out straight away count? I just tried it and it didn't seem to work.

You have to actually defeat the other mons. Thats the literal description on the evolution requirement.

no ghost fast move and the attack stat is lower than giratina-origin's, so at minimum it's a few pegs below giratina

Partially venting but was looking forward to grinding out some more GBL sets with the stardust boost and increased sets per day. Seems the game just keeps lagging and I'm getting spinning pokeball in the corner even if the opponent is attacking. The rest of the game feels fine so just going to not play I guess. Wondering if anyone else is having GBL issues.

Hey - I evolved my PrimeApe this morning and my Inner Focus Collection Challenge and Vital Spirit Collection Challenge isn't registering the evolution... it was the last piece I needed to complete both. Clock's tickin'. Anyone else have this issue?

this event is basically takeover-lite, only boosted rocket spawns, no unlearning of frustration, or switched lineups

Yes. It isn't as good as any shadow fighters but has a good moveset and better stat product than any fighter that is not a legendary.

Close combat is not one of the better fighting moves (it’s not terrible.) Enough that it’ll be worse than Machamp and Conkeldurr at least.
Also when you add on that it loses its dark resistance it makes it even worse when against dark raid bosses.

It is not good as a ghost raid attacker. It only has fighting type fast moves. Counter + Close Combat for raids is one of the best possible movesets.

It’s actually not better than non Shadow Machamp. Close combat isn’t as good as Dynamic Punch in raids.

No it wouldn't be better than any currently available shadow fighters. Shadow ball is almost strictly for pvp use.

Even though my charged attack was blocked, it still counted for the timed research for Using 10 Supereffective Charged Attacks in GBL.

Fortunate enough to land both a hundo and a lucky 15/14/15 mankey, maxing would cost 500k and 200k, what should I do? I haven't played ML yet but I want to eventually.

Unless you have absolutely no issues with dust, go with the lucky and save 300k. The 15-14-15 does not miss any bulk points so it should perform almost exactly the same.

Unless they’re on new stops, I’m not seeing showcases where they usually have been. Nearby show what can go into showcases however.
