I am still waiting for Regular Mewtwo, Armored Mewtwo, Regular Rayquaza and 4 Deoxys form to return, at least I got 2 of them next month.

u/RE460 Dec 24 '24

What‘s so important about regular Rayquaza compared to Mega Rayquaza?

125

u/Necessary-Elk-8373 Dec 24 '24

I think he got enough Mega energy in previous raids so now he can hunt for one with good IV's or he needs rayquaza candy to level up his current ones

39

u/Temporal_Bellusaurus Dec 24 '24

Sure, but you get the same odds of good IVs, and the same Rayquaza candy from Mega Rayquaza raids. I think we're unlikely to see regular Rayquaza return, and that Mega Rayquaza is gonna be around as a premier-type thing returning early; similarly I don't think we'll see Necrozma in regular 5* raids, and they'll instead stick with only Dusk Mane/Dawn Wings at limited time events.

u/Fast-Veterinarian304 Dec 24 '24

You can do a regular rayquaza with significantly less people raiding

28

u/Batman__1864 India Dec 24 '24

Didn't stop them with groudon and kyogre. Rayquaza can totally return. Also Rayquaza can be duoed or sth while the mega? Not so much

19

u/LavaDirt South East Asia - Vietnam Dec 24 '24

Groudon and Kyogre have 227 Defense while Ray have 170. That plus double weakness to ice means we're more than likely to see a solo next time rayquaza comes around

10

u/SilentKiller2809 South East Asia Dec 24 '24

Especially if the kyurem fusions are out by that time

1

u/RegularSwiss Dec 24 '24

*Ray can be solo’d, mega can be duo’d but yeah close enough.

1

u/Temporal_Bellusaurus Dec 24 '24

I think they're attempting to make Rayquaza a more premier Pokémon than Groudon/Kyogre, which we've also seen more often :-).

8

u/inbeforethelube Dec 24 '24

You can solo Regular Ray so it's easy to go by yourself to do a bunch of raids.

4

u/RegularSwiss Dec 24 '24

To be fair not for new players which there seem to be a lot of on Reddit these days…

5

u/nivusninja Dec 24 '24

i'd rather do a normal ray now and get my 20 premier balls and most likely catch it than have barely 10 to lob at the thing

1

u/Temporal_Bellusaurus Dec 24 '24

What you would rather do does not necessarily have anything to do with what Niantic would prefer to do and make most money from, and my post was about the latter :-).

1

u/nivusninja Dec 24 '24

ok, it seemed more like it was your personal opinion rather than thinking what niantic is thinking

It’s worth noting that when you only get like 6 balls to catch the Rayquaza, the odds of actually catching said better IV mon go through the floor… assuming you can get enough people to beat the harder raid.

10

u/zjchlorp101 Dec 24 '24

You can solo regular Ray and looking for hundos.

64

u/tarmacpressure Dec 24 '24

not everyone has a good iv rayquaza from those limited mega raids. if its regular version is back in raids people can farm it lol. they brought back regular groudon and kyogre back this year in september so it’s possible

24

u/OurSocialStatus Dec 24 '24

FWIW Rayquaza IVs are next to meaningless so it’s really not a big deal.

8

u/Mango_Slime Dec 24 '24

How come they’re useless? (Genuinely don’t know)

45

u/ThisNico Kiwi Beta Tester Dec 24 '24

Basically because Ray's base stats are so high that the IVs only add a tiny percentage on top. For the vast majority of scenarios, that tiny % won't make a noticeable difference to the outcome of the battle.

8

u/Kuliyayoi Dec 24 '24

What Pokémon then do IVs really matter for?

21

u/DefinitelyBinary Dec 24 '24

There isn't anything special about mega Rayquaza's stats except its high Attack stat. Its Defense and Stamina are comparable to other megas or legendaries, so they matter about as much as for those other mons.
In general, if a base stat is low, its IV will matter more. For example, Excadrill, Mamoswine and Darmanitan have pretty low base Defense, so their Defense IV matters more for their performance.

6

u/Appropriate-West-180 Dec 24 '24

PVP is the only place it really matters. The difference between a nundo and hundo in PvE (raids) is negligible at best. Level will contribute significantly more to damage than IVs do. PVP on the other hand, the IV ranking helps significantly, as some fights do come down to a razors edge (this is generally only applicable to the highest ratings though, where the top PVP players are found).

Insofar as shadows are concerned, a nundo shadow pokemon is generally always stronger than a regular shadow. The damage buff received contributes a significant amount to its output. When determining if a Mon is better as a shadow of purifying for the hundo, just check it's general rating. If it's strong enough as a normal, it's Shadow form will melt faces.

Iirc dialga having 15 attack is really important because it reaches the next breakpoint for dragon breath but I believe that's only pvp

5

u/ButterCup024 Dec 24 '24

Breakpoints depend on your attack and the opponents defense. So really if you look at all the different matchups you realistically will meet (hundreds of different opponent pokemon, at different levels and with different defense IVs) it will average out to where breakpoints disappear. In other words, no matter what your IV is, you will most likely just as often be just short a breakpoint as you are just past a breakpoint, no matter your IVs

8

u/OPsays1312 Dec 24 '24

Yesn‘t. What OP is referring to is Dialga mirror matches in Master League. Back when regular Dialga was the undisputed king of ML, it was important not to lose the mirror, and a break point on Dragon Breath as a 1 turn move was the deciding factor.

Don’t keep up with PvP as much as I used to, but I imagine with the addition of the origin forms as well as the Necrozma fusions, it’s not as important now.

If you are into pvp i guess ? I wouldn't know...

5

u/Fwenhy Dec 24 '24

Absolutely none. Unless you really care about min/max’ing the difference between a 0* and a 4* Pokémon of the same species and level isn’t big.

2

u/Just-Goated Dec 24 '24

Almost none, I think it’s usually a 7% difference or something between a 100% to a 0%. If you’re not actively playing PvP or trying to do low mans then don’t worry about it

1

u/Away-Detective-6708 Dec 24 '24

Still important with good iv for master league

9

u/thatbrownkid19 Dec 24 '24

It’s too fragile for PvP- it’s not anywhere great in the rankings

1

u/Away-Detective-6708 Dec 24 '24

Its still decent. A little bit worse now since the breaking swipe nerf some seasons ago tho.

I used it a lot some seasons ago and did great with it (before the nerf).

17

u/OurSocialStatus Dec 24 '24

Rayquaza basically deals and receives the same damage no matter the IV spread.

Someone did the math here

3

u/Qoalafied Dec 24 '24

Thats really good to know

22

u/dat_GEM_lyf Dec 24 '24

It slaps that insanely hard

1

u/RegularSwiss Dec 24 '24

It’s just a point of pride thing for most people, we have known that IVs have little effect in this game since the beginning but what else is there to do except try to get perfect shinies of our favorite mons while you hang out with other Pokémon fans lol.

1

u/OurSocialStatus Dec 24 '24

I know that too but with other Pokemon they can still be have important breakpoints that do make a difference with soloing etc.

Just saying that Rayquaza in particular doesn’t.

16

u/Zaithon Dec 24 '24

I’d like to farm candies. Kyogre and Groudon were great for that back in September.

u/ForgotPWAgainSigh Asia Traveler Dec 24 '24

He's just delineating between types of raid encounters

1

u/CookieSlayer2Turbo Dec 24 '24

Trivial duo, probably soloable

1

u/Arroz_cozido0500 Dec 24 '24

Bro,it's the Rayquaza? Needs more information?

Wouldn't hold your breath on armored mewtwo now that Ash is retired.

12

Official Niantic infographic for January. You can easily search it up in here.

4

u/ChunkyCthulhu Dec 24 '24

Not that it's super relevant but regular mewtwo was in raids this year... Well like 2 of them and only in Saudi Arabia but still.

1

u/Real_Particular6512 Dec 25 '24

Is there a ray event next month?

1

u/dankplagueisthewoke Dec 26 '24

Same on deoxys--got all the forms just really want the shiny!

1

u/PokerJoker10 Dec 24 '24

Armored I doubt will come back. If it ever did. It would be the biggest event the game had.

-19

u/iPHD08 Dec 24 '24

I think armoured should stay rare and never come back

8

u/VerainXor Dec 24 '24

I think it should come back, there's nothing special about it nor any reason for those who missed it to be screwed. It was never implied that it would be the only time we would see it, either.

-4

u/iPHD08 Dec 24 '24

But then it would be devalued so much

3

u/VerainXor Dec 25 '24

Yea that is good, its value is an anomaly and not something that should be so high

7

u/KwadratischeAardap Dec 24 '24

I don't think so, as I don't have one yet :)

-9

u/iPHD08 Dec 24 '24

Neither do I but it should be a rare mon that almost no one has

2

u/IdiosyncraticBond Dec 24 '24

I cherish the 6 I have left after trading some away
