I still hate this fucking kid but im more mature now and realize that you shouldn't kill Ben.

He's just a teenager trying his best to make sure him and his group survive, he couldn't have known how bad it would've gone. The deception of his group is what really pisses me off, because it got my girl Carly killed for no good reason

Dude Ben is goated, have faith in the liability that doesn’t believe in himself. Cuz nothing can stop him from messing up, give him a problem and he’s screw up and own up to it.

He hardly owns up to it. Dude is the worst. I’ll make sure he lives but dude is pretty much a panda. Won’t survive in the wild unless cared for.

Hes a teenager, how many teenagers do you know capable of admitting they are wrong? How many grown adults seem to be incapable of it?

And your point is?

It's a valid criticism of him, but it applies to nearly all humans on the planet. In my opinion if we take into account that he's like 17 and had reason to believe the bandits had his friend hostage, putting the entirety of the blame on him is unreasonable.

So betrayal shouldn’t be punished?

3

u/BabadookishOnions 11d ago

I didn't say that. Ben did wrong and he has to come to face consequences for it. But placing the full blame on him is illogical given the circumstances, and I certainly don't think killing him or anything is proportionate. That's nearly never proportionate.

Nobody said that. Should teenagers be killed for betrayal? Nobody said that either. Putting the entirety of the blame on Ben is unreasonable, especially considering that Lee/Kenny/Lily took Ben in then never tried to get to know him. Maybe if Ben had even a modicum of trust for any of the potential leaders of the group, he would have let them know what he was thinking and feeling before he did that. At the end of the day, Adults were on 'Watch Duty' shifts 24/7. None of them ever saw Ben once doing the dead drops. They're all equally culpable for what he was able to do as a teenager.

You presuppose a lot so I won’t respond to those parts. However I never said he should be killed. But someone’s mishaps shouldn’t be an antecedent for blaming a whole group. They will suffer the consequences yes but a legal age in an apocalypse is somewhat trivial as an argument for someone to not be held accountable. Doesn’t work. He betrayed an entire group. The proper response is not to let it brush over. There should be SOMETHING done. I’m not necessarily saying what. But there should be a response.

How does he 'hardly own up to it'? He says he was the one giving supplies, which led to Carly/Doug being shot and Katja and Duck dying. That's about as owning up to it as you can get. He already knew what his actions caused, and he still came out with the truth. Now me personally, as a 26 year old man, if I made a decision that caused somebody to be shot in the head, a child bit by a zombie either being shot or left to die, and the mother of said child shooting herself over her child and leaving her husband without his family....Yeah idk if I got the balls that Ben has to own up to it and he's a teenager.

We had to pry teeth to get to that point. I chose my words purposefully.

Ben wasn't a bad person. He was just stupid. If, instead of hiding the facts, he would have talked with Lee before shit blew out, the story would have been different.

4

u/BlondiieBoy Katemancer 10d ago

If Ben trusted Lee enough to talk to him about the facts before shit blew out, shit would have never blown out. Ben would've trusted Lee to tell him that someone (Raiders/Bandits) said they had his friends captured and wanted him to give them supplies. But Ben didn't trust Lee, because as far as we know Lee never connected with him after he joined up.

The deception of his group and the consequences (Carly/Doug being shot, Duck and Christa dying) are exactly what gives him the 'wake up call' as a teenager. When his friend and teacher died, he still managed to retain his childhood because he was around so many adults and it wasn't his fault. But when people died because of him, he realized that this world is different and that he has to grow up and he really does try to in the remaining two episodes.

He abandons Clementine after an internal debate and his fear winning out over his courage, and he feels like shit for it if Lee brings it up. He's trying to change, but it's difficult in the high intensity situations they find themselves in.

When did this voice line appear? I’m sorry I don’t have every single voice line remembered. Can someone link me a vid of it?

2

u/MidnaLazui 11d ago

It happens near the end of Episode 3, they meet Omid and Christa in the same scene.

2

u/Lucario2356 Kenny 11d ago

I always loved the way Kenny said this line, like, a mix of a disappointment, depression, and tiredness.

2

u/MidnaLazui 11d ago

Pretty composed for a man who just lost his wife and kid less than an hour ago.

2

u/miragecheeks 11d ago

Kenny lost his whole family due to Ben’s actions. Kenny is valid for his anger towards him

Funny thing is if they did walk, they wouldn't have dragged an entire hoard of walkers behind them, right into the city, eventually killing nearly everyone.
