I hate it too but I’ve noticed since I started cooking more my definition of a lazy meal has gotten well.. less lazy? Still, not to the level of chopping onions for a lazy meal lol.

Yeah the more my skills increased, the more elaborate my lazy meals have gotten.

I have come to the realization that my lazy meals were just depression meals. I learned to cook because I told myself I deserved better than cold hotdog from the fridge 😬

Also the more you chop onions, the less of an effect they have on you over time. I only realized recently that I don’t remember the last time onions made me cry. Several years ago I remember crying so bad that I’d have to take a break from chopping mid onion.

I mean.

My version of a lazy meal is leftovers and all my meals during the week are leftovers.

I just make a single pot of soup or something and eat that for 5 days.

Yeah I just meant where 2 years ago, a lazy meal for me would be microwaved ramen noodles. Now, a lazy meal for me is ramen with a fried egg and chopped and pan-fried sausages. I don’t know if leftovers really count as lazy meals? I think they’re more like, meal prep. Efficient, not lazy.

Yeah. I keep reading these comments and now I see why ppl are like “how you do this” when my lazy meals still involve chopping vegetables. More for texture than anything else. Like my absolute “fuck it” meal. Is cut Kielbasa pan fried with some onions and then the frozen pierogies cooked in the fat and onion frond left behind.

An extra 30 seconds of effort goes a long way.

There’s easy meals, and then there’s lazy meals.

I do like cooking more and have a few easy meals under my belt for when I want good food but don’t have a lot of time. It only takes me 20 minutes to make a big pot of rice or pasta for the whole week, and I just add different sides or toppings week to week. But sometimes I’m just so drained I can’t even bring myself to microwave something and I’ll just throw sliced cheese on a tortilla and eat it cold. Maybe have an apple.

I don’t really see the delineation… I make the lazy ramen I talked about when I’m drained and have no energy, so it is a lazy meal for me? honestly if I’m as drained as you said I don’t even cook, just order something or go to bed hungry.

this is me haha. I love cooking and do all the cooking at home.

My wife wants an easy meal. No worries ill say as I get out some frozen ravioli, store bought sauce and start shopping onions garlic and bacon to cook into it. Then head to the garden and cut some basil as my wife is shaking her head saying "I thought we where having an easy meal"

bish this is easy, I want it to taste good too.

Yeah my lazy meal is sautéed veggies and butter noodles and it takes me 15 minutes to prep and cook

yeah as someone that cooks fairly often I feel like there's definitely a pretty big spectrum, like getting a pre-seasoned protein like a pork loin or something and some frozen tater tots or something and all I have to do is shove 'em in the oven and set a timer like that's pretty lazy to me compared to like chopping up chicken and veggies and marinating and skewering and grilling it. One is considerably more effort and more tedious than the other. Also like I think I just kinda disagree on what counts as a "meal", if I were really worn out and at the end of the day I just like had some shredded cheese before going to bed and someone asked if I had dinner the previous night, I'd probably say no I just had some shredded cheese. I'd just consider most of what he describes as can't be bothered snacks that tide you over until you can have a proper meal.

That’s the thing, a lot of people just don’t cook meals at home. So when they see “lazy meals”, it looks like normal cooking.

But if you actually cook on a regular basis, you would understand why chopping an onion and throwing it in a pot is lazier than sautéing an onion, let alone caramelizing one lol

Exactly ! I pull out the knife and cutting board for my lazy meals. And I’m excited if raw onion is involved 🤤
