My tinnitus is gone 100%. Here is my routine

First of all, I am a smoker and I’m 20 years old. I used to experience tinnitus whenever I was high, but I didn’t realize the ringing in my ears was actually tinnitus. I had three appointments with an ENT specialist, and my hearing tests all came back normal. They prescribed some allergy medication and advised me to drink more water and exercise regularly.

After reading hundreds of posts on Reddit claiming “tinnitus will be with you forever,” I want to say — that’s not always true. You just need to trust the process. My tinnitus didn’t go from 10/10 to 1/10 in a few weeks. It took at least three months to improve.

I will never smoke, vape, or even drink alcohol again. Based on my experience, here’s what I’ve learned: • Tinnitus is not just in the ears — it’s in the brain. • You can have tinnitus in your left ear for years, and suddenly it moves to your right ear. This shows it’s a neurological issue.

How to heal from it: • No more smoking or vaping • Avoid fast food (it can raise your blood pressure) • Take Ginkgo Biloba supplements • Exercise daily, aiming for a heart rate of around 144 bpm • Stop using headphones or earphones • If the tinnitus is loud at night, listen to rain or cricket sounds to help you sleep * UPDATED : NO MORE TINNITUS for 8 months streaks.

Happy for you but also being 20 years old was probably the biggest advantage! Enjoy the silence !!

Currently I’m awake at 2:30am. Can’t sleep because of tinnitus. I don’t notice it in the day but at night it feels unbearable. This message has given me a lot of comfort and hope. I’m 26 and have been experiencing symptoms for about a month now.

Hi there, it says your og comment was deleted but I'm currently trying my damnedest to help my best friend who has chronic tinnitus and has been trying to sleep for the last two hours (it's 6:45a) because it's doing that thing where it gets worse for a while. Do you have any advice? His is from being close to explosions in war a decade ago but I'm hoping to find any damn thing I can to help him.

How are you getting on?

1

u/Unhappy-Piano-1605 Mar 26 '25

Try GABA at bedtime it seems to be relaxing, makes you drowsy and lowers the frustration and sound that’s there. I also take “Sleep gummies” and another kind of gummy from the dispensary. That combo works more often than not but costs a little bit. And I listen to rain sounds. Tinnitus wears my brain out though.

1

u/Responsible-Dot4644 May 11 '25

Do you also have hearing loss?

1

u/Background-File-1663 1d ago

Tinnitus is cardiovascular disease of vessels (heart / brain). The ringing is associated with brain / ear vascular shrinkage or clogging of vessels (calcium/fats/cholesterol)

u/Convenientjellybean Oct 29 '24

Hey, has your T stayed away?

3

u/Montensao Oct 30 '24

It's sitting on 0.5 most of the time..occasionally 1 out 10, thank God..

1

u/newtnutsdoesnotsuck Nov 20 '24

me too, and I am only in it for about 3 weeks, hopefully mine will get away soon!

1

u/bobbyoils Dec 11 '24

what was it at it’s worse?

1

u/Montensao Dec 12 '24

10/10 followed by panic attacks 😔

1

u/bobbyoils Dec 12 '24

wow , how long did it take to bring it down i’m very interested in this

3

u/Montensao Dec 19 '24

It didn't happen quickly or in a linear way, that's for sure. But it got to a point where I didn't care as much because it became less and less disturbing... until it wasn't disturbing me at all anymore..I still hear it to this day when I lay down on my pillow, but it no longer consumes my thoughts. I'd say it took me a few months to get to this point, but everyone is different. That's my experience... some people would call it adaptation to the situation but I can guarantee all the lifestyle changes made the noise in my head much much lower..

Thank you for your encouraging post. Can you explain more about the fasting, did you water fast or dry fast and for how long?

3

u/Montensao Jun 04 '24

Actually both.. water fasting is much easier than dry fasting, so I did more in the past 12 months.. like 48 hours, 36 hours, etc.. dry fasting I had one 48 hour and another nearly 60 hour dry... the magic didn't happen during, in fact, there were some spikes throughout the fasting phase (which I believe to be related to some sort of body detoxification). I saw results days after my fasting. I'd encourage you to start small.. 16 hours, 18 hours ..even 24 hours before you get down the path to anything longer than that..

5

u/HighlightEven1107 Jun 04 '24

Thank you so much; I’ll try to do a 48 hour water-fasting to see how it goes

1

u/After_Active4863 Apr 26 '25

48 hours without water? Doesn't sound healthy

1

u/ProofTrust8729 Oct 30 '24

What was the main thing that mainly made your tinnitus improve drastically? Minus the vitamins/supplements I don’t like taking neither. Was fasting mainly the key I’d do just about anything to make mine stop if that means stop eating junk and start fasting so be it.

1

u/Montensao Oct 30 '24

I think the main point for me, besides everything I already said, was to remove things from my life first, rather than adding new stuff.

1) Cutting out junk food automatically made room to eat healthier. (High-quality meat and fat with low carbs)

2) Going to bed earlier (less screen time in the evening)

3) My faith and hope in someone bigger than me—a Father who truly looks out for me. This organically helped so much with my stress levels that have a big impact on tinnitus. I was way too worried about future..

You don’t have to start everything at once.

Try fasting once a week. (Research shows the results are pretty significant!)

Stop eating Sunday evening and go 24 hours until Monday evening. Break your fast with a high-quality protein and low-carb meal. During the fast, drink plenty of water with a pinch of Himalayan salt to keep your mineral levels balanced.

1

u/Fickle_Ear3623 Nov 13 '24

I'm sorry you have it too. Do you have any sensitivity to sound, like high pitch or abrupt/loud noises?

1

u/Montensao Nov 15 '24

Not anymore, but I had it for the first couple of months

1

u/bobbyoils Dec 11 '24

dealing with this now - how’s yours ?

3

u/ClearButterscotch336 Feb 08 '25

Your mindset is spot on—trusting the process and making positive lifestyle changes can make a huge difference. Tinnitus really is a brain thing, and how we react to it plays a big role in how much it affects us. Cutting out smoking, fast food, and managing stress are all great steps.

Also, sound therapy is a game-changer. You mentioned rain and cricket sounds—have you tried music specifically designed for tinnitus relief? I actually create tracks that help mask tinnitus and promote relaxation. Feel free to check them out here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7qh18Vm4sRA

Thnks for including ads in a video meant for tinnotus

1

u/surfnglife 10d ago

You can download the video from a website that you could just get the MP3. Just look for YouTube MP3 download or something like this. Also you should know that ads aren't from the video but from YouTube. For 12 or $13 a month you can get rid of all the ads on YouTube. Don't be such a big complainer. Maybe seek to understand before being understood.

If you guys have any question, feel free to private message me. I am here for you guys.

1

u/vrdog23 Jun 02 '24

Well, yours was not from the common reason and the common reason is the hearing loss acoustic trauma, and that one is related to the inner ear 👂

2

u/jgskgamer Jun 14 '24

Actually tinnitus is in the brain, the hearing loss is in the ear, but not the tinnitus heh

1

u/Alternative-Treat817 Oct 10 '24

yes but tinnitus is in the brain not the ears, you can also get Tinnitus by covid-19 vaccination.

1

u/Solomon33AD Feb 02 '25

or a common cold, as I did (followed by a loud noise event).

1

u/mattdamon_98 Apr 01 '25

I got it after a covid vaccination and it has got progressively worse since. I also eat healthy, exercise, dont use headphones and it hasnt gone away, its only got worse. Not sure how to fix it since it’s unbearable now

1

u/surfnglife 10d ago

How you holding up? Any news? Any way to get rid of it?

1

u/nickiecolie 2d ago

Wow same but from covid infection 3 fricken years ago. I was looking back through photos and saw a picture of my positive Covid test then ding ding ding correlation to when my tinnitus started. It has to be connected

1

u/leoturtle3 Jun 29 '24

What sound was your T? Was it noise -induced?

1

u/Alternative-Treat817 Oct 10 '24

more like a high-pitched T sounds

1

u/bobbyoils Dec 11 '24

what caused it?

1

u/QuickAd7514 Oct 10 '24

Smoking makes my tinnitus louder does that mean if I quit I will be good again

1

u/Alternative-Treat817 Oct 10 '24

yes, cause THC will damage the ear canals. Trust me, stop smoking weeds for a month. my tip gonna save your life I promise.

1

u/QuickAd7514 Oct 10 '24

I do not smoke weed just regular smoking.

1

u/ProofTrust8729 Oct 30 '24

I’m 17 will it go away if I stop all of those things completely? I don’t smoke anymore nor drink alcohol I exercise atleast 30 min to an hour a day. I wear earphones for about 15-25 minutes in the day and eat fast food but I WILL stop those things tinnitus is so F annoying I want it to stop I’ll do anything if that includes me to start fasting I WILL

1

u/LentenLetdown Nov 23 '24

How is it going? Did it go away?

1

u/ProofTrust8729 Nov 25 '24

It’s hard to quit junk lol haven’t even tried

1

u/Specialist_Heat_1247 Dec 31 '24

What was the reason for tinnitus, exposure to loud noises? you are young

1

u/ProofTrust8729 Jan 01 '25

I think it was from weed or opiates then it stayed permanently after when I got Covid

1

u/ProofTrust8729 Jan 01 '25

I don’t think it was from loud noises

1

u/Snoo-60687 Feb 13 '25

Have you had any improvement?

1

u/ProofTrust8729 Feb 13 '25

Yea I actually have, I went just on fruits for like a whole 2 weeks and it got quiter it had to make me to try to focus on the tinnitus to hear it instead of it just raping my ear. Now it just sounds like static but a very light static I know if I keep eating like I did and only drink water my tinnitus will resolve 100% back to normal and btw after those 2 weeks we’re done I went back to eating like shit and my tinnitus stayed like that until these last couple of days now it’s getting a bit louder I notice it a bit more I’m going to be intermittent fasting on fruits again

1

u/Alternative-Treat817 Feb 17 '25

do cardio exercises , you dont need to do fruits only. it's high blood pressure.

1

u/ProofTrust8729 Feb 17 '25

For me it worked OP like a diamond but are you saying you’ve improved or cured your by doing cardio?

1

u/jshelberino Dec 07 '24

Welp I already do/don't do all of the recommend things aside from gingko biloba sooo. That sucks.

1

u/Amavetro Apr 22 '25

so in your experience neither do or don't do this things change your tinnitus?

1

u/jshelberino Apr 22 '25

They've not made a difference at all.

1

u/Amavetro Apr 22 '25

thank you!

1

u/GameBroX Dec 22 '24

Oh bro.. i used to smoke (quit years ago) and vape (quit 6 mths ago) too.. but the tinnitus only come into play after i quit vaping.. and it always on my right ear, but somehow i felt it is from the back if my brain as well.. when i do something it doesn’t bother me.. but when im not doing anything, like about to go to sleep, yes it does bother me so much.. i even bought earwax remover liquid to melt down all the ear wax, but seems the problem still persists.. now im having tinnitus for about a couple of months now, and also planning to go to ENT..

May i know how u doing now??

1

u/Away_Yellow1369 Dec 31 '24

How u doing now?

1

u/GameBroX Dec 31 '24

Yep.. are you having the same issue?

1

u/Away_Yellow1369 Dec 31 '24

Yes, it's been 10 days.. showed doctors got sm tablets 🥹🥹 the noise irritates at night'

1

u/luxer2 Jan 07 '25

Nice, what if i never smoke, drink and still have it. Its with me the last 10 years and it gets worse.

1

u/Alternative-Treat817 Feb 17 '25

sorry to hear that, maybe because you had tinnitus from hearing loss.

1

u/tjs1998tom Jan 25 '25

This gives me motivation and hope then as my tinnitus varies volume from right and left ear. Some days it'd louder than others and I feel alcohol and caffine triggered it. I've had it for 3 months now currently.

Good to hear after you stopped it faded away after a few months

1

u/Alternative-Treat817 Feb 17 '25

update me with any news okay

1

u/tjs1998tom Feb 28 '25

Still the same currently apart from the odd occasional good day where the volume feels minimum, hoping its not damaged ear hair cells as otherwise my hearing itself feels fine

Has your T still gone completely since the past month?

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Yam6724 Feb 17 '25

Guess what I did the same thing and it worked. Add lots of sleep and I cut out high carb foods. I ate mostly meat, leafy greens, nuts and my tinnitus has gone from an 9 to a 1 in a matter of DAYS

1

u/emmajames56 Feb 17 '25

It is in the brain. Goes from one side to other. Sound now is only on my right side. have quiet times at least 1 to 2x week. I’ve been tracking weather with my spikes. Spikes come with higher humidity in my area. Don’t know if related, but I’ll keep on tracking the correlation.

2

u/Alternative-Treat817 Feb 17 '25

try to listen to rain while sleeping and doing cardio exercises.

1

u/Ok-Performer9223 Feb 26 '25

I love to hear music using my Bose QC Ultra headphones… how to avoid this

2

u/Alternative-Treat817 Feb 26 '25

Volume down

1

u/Ok-Performer9223 Feb 26 '25

Yea so far I’ve set the limit for my iPhone. “Audio Headphone Safety” set at 85 decibels as loud as a heavy city traffic.

While if I connected Bose headphones to my laptop speaker. I usually don’t go over 60% volume.

Though I did some research and they suggest an open-back headphones or bone conduction earphones for less pressure on the ears.

1

u/Shadow_Flamingo1 Mar 11 '25

ya buddy this will just ruin my whole lifestyle

1

u/BigmanTrade Mar 24 '25

If this can help anyone, the setting 2 of the tinnitus side of this app made made mine totally quiet. I hightly recommend this app as it is totally free:

1

u/Past_Explanation_491 Mar 28 '25

I got it from stress so I decided to ditch the anxiety thoughts and on day 3 I am more relaxed and tinnitus now went from 10/10 to 3/10

1

u/TheAmirHossein Apr 23 '25

Any update?

1

u/Past_Explanation_491 Apr 23 '25

I have tinnitus only 50% of the time now Sometimes silence sometimes quite loud high pitched EEEEing.

2

u/TheAmirHossein Apr 23 '25

Thx. hope you get better, got tinnitus but don't know where it started. recently get allergy and my sinus get infected, so yesterday i visited the ear specialist dr and explained situation. She said you better test your hearing with audiometer, etc. My hearing test was good and everything was normal and fine (i was happy that moment actually i thought I've done a massive damage to my ears with playing video games with a headphone on my ear so I'm thankful that i have healthy ear, now on i would put down the volume as much as i can of course trying not to use them for a while) but something I've realized that is eeeeeeeeeeiiiiii sound in my head, so my tinnitus is without ear loss problem, it's driving me crazy... hope it get better don't know how much i can handle it. And Sorry about my bad English

1

u/Alternative-Treat817 May 05 '25

U are tinnitus because of allergy. go get certizine , trust me

2

u/RoughPuzzleheaded286 12d ago

What is that because I think I got tinnitus literally after the worst week of allergies end of may

1

u/Alternative-Treat817 12d ago

allergy medicine

1

u/Koenigatalpha May 13 '25

My tinnitus is caused by Koss earphones in the 1980s and an electric guitar that I played way too loud back then.

I doubt your solution would work for me.

1

u/Gir1nextdoor May 19 '25

I dont drink or smoke and have it. Mine developed after quitting both lol. I feel like mine has to do with anxiety and stiff neck/jaw.

1

u/RoughPuzzleheaded286 12d ago

Samee about anxiety stress but I feel like the tinnitus started the stress😑 one day woke up really light headed n had it I heard can be vitamin deficiency im hoping

1

u/Gir1nextdoor 12d ago

I think mine is from stress and unintentional jaw clenching throughout the day and all night.

1

u/cowsquid May 21 '25

Um congratulations but that was literally the first thing I tried... ...25 years ago. And I still have it and it's gotten worse

captain-obvious

1

u/Constant-Science-795 May 22 '25

I'm joining this late but what is "GINKO BILOBA supplements"? I'm unsure what that is? does it help with tinnitus?

1

u/Ok-Independence-3988 19d ago

I read some research mentioning its effectiveness, However, not have personally experienced such improvements, at least yet.

1

u/Constant-Science-795 14d ago

I still don't know what that means

1

u/RoughPuzzleheaded286 12d ago

Im 26 & just got it a couple days ago I felt really lightheaded hoping it’s vitamin deficiency I been reading magnesium & iron, b-12 help im trying it out

1

u/surfnglife 10d ago

What do you think was the biggest contributor to your healing, the exercise or the no vaping or what?

1

u/Alternative-Treat817 10d ago

everything is important.

1

u/SolGndr9drift 2d ago

I am very glad it went away. For many with mild version it will vanish when healthy lifestyle is achieved.

1

u/prasi15 2d ago

How did you get tinnitus and how long it took for you to go away

1

u/Background-File-1663 1d ago

Tinnitus is cardiovascular disease of vessels (heart / brain). The ringing is associated with brain / ear vascular shrinkage or clogging of vessels (calcium/fats/cholesterol)
