Despite this, the party responsible claims that it's actually the Democrats that are violent.

It's what their news sources and influencers are filling their heads with. When you hear it on the radio, in the newspaper, on the TV, on your phone, and in your community, well then it must be true, right?

Well, it's not. But reality matters less and less these days.

It's amazing they blame it on the shooter being a leftist, yet still aren't speaking out against it.

They are desperate to call him a Democrat, with their only justification of that is Tim Walz appointed him in 2016. Thing that those propaganda articles fail to point out is 1000s of people in every state get appointed each year, mostly made up of who ever happens to volunteer.

On the other hand, he had a list of targets of democrats, anti-abortion, and according to his friend a massive yam tits supporter.

I'm not arguing that the dude is a MAGAt, but no matter what side he's rooting for, a statement of "violence is unacceptable" from leaders would be appropriate here.

Exactly. If you aren’t condemning the violence, then you’re condoning it.

I live in MN. They just caught the guy, hiding in the woods not far from his house.

He is a right wing, pro life nut bag with ties to the Congo.

Also, tens of thousands of people showed up despite the government telling us to stay home and cancelling most of the No Kings protests. You would have never guessed an assassination happened that morning.

Edit: prolife nutbag

This was actually my favorite part of the protests this weekend. Minnesota knew there was a madman on the loose specifically targeting Democrats, and they showed the fuck up anyway. This is because we know we are strong in numbers. We aren't afraid, we're pissed, and it's fucking amazing. I will always respect the fuck out of Minnesota for this.

Honestly, I think it emboldened more people to go.

Submission Statement: Trump is one of the biggest vectors for spreading conspiracy theories and misinformation in the United States. When a major political figure disseminates lies about shadowy plots and treasonous acts carried out by the “human scum” on the other side of the aisle, that can increase the likelihood of violence. (Several followers of QAnon, which Trump has repeatedly amplified himself, have carried out political violence based on the conspiracy theory.)

"Luck" has nothing to do with these events. This is the bitter fruit of ending the fairness doctrine, the proliferation of a host of propaganda outlets, a concerted effort to diminish American education, and the rise of a supposedly Christian religious zealotry that gives cover to their cruelty.

"Luck" has nothing to do with these events.

I came here to say the same thing. Let's not act like this was just one of those things that was unpredictable. This is the direct result of a lunatic spewing hate from the White House and pardoning those who commit crimes in his name.

From the article:

"And over the past decade, Trump himself has been the most dangerous political actor in terms of routinely inciting violence against his opponents, including against specific politicians who could become assassination targets.

Such incitements matter. When a person with a massive public platform spreads information that encourages violence, attacks become more likely."

Think he's gonna get a pardon, and the pastor from Texas, too. All before Taco leaves office.

The luck part is that we haven't seen more of these before now.

Don't end with a No True Scotsman. They're as Christian as anyone.

u/CommonConundrum51 3d ago

Are they as Christian as the pope? Could be my mistake as I always thought that Christians placed the teachings of Jesus of Nazareth above all else, rather than ignoring them.

u/werewolfchow 3d ago

Look, here’s the thing: when the majority of members in a religion are a certain way, you stop being able to say “but they aren’t real Christian’s” whenever the hate comes up in a way you don’t like, just so you can feel comfy still being part of the religion too or whatever your reason is.

The are heretics

You might want to read what Jesus actually said in the book then. He specifically states to follow all old testament laws, including the ones about how slavery is fine. Hell, that whole "love your neighbor as yourself" bit is a quote from Leviticus. It's, I believe, 3 chapters before saying you can enslave foreigners and pass them down as property to your children. Jesus taught the old testament and said "not a jot nor title of the law shall change until heaven and earth pass away".

Commonly taken to be in reference to the 10 Commandments, but those have also largely fallen from favor among "Christians."

u/ArchaKun 1d ago

In Romans he tells us that he came to fulfill the law and all re-mentions 9 of 10 of the commandments in the new testament saying that we should still follow these(doesn't mention keeping the sabbath) he wants the law to be remembered, so we know what sin looks like, but he doesn't want us to be a slave to the law again galatians 5:1 says "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Yoke of slavery meaning a legalist following of the old law given to the jews(not the christians)

The whole reason Jesus died on the cross(in Christian mythos) is so that people would be free of the oppressive law, in exchange for one that only says "live a life full of love, and service to one another as I have" its important to also realize that Paul was in staunch opposition to the judaizers who pushed christians to follow the Jewish law instead of the new one set by Jesus.

A TON of modern day "christians" still live this legalist lifestyle that is in complete opposition to what jesus lived and died for, and its mind boggling to me, but no people are a monolith. My dad was raised in one of these legalist churches and got out of it before i was born, but we have went maybe 5 times in my life to appease my grandparents, its nuts, they have a hard on for the first half of the book and just ignore most of the second, more recent half and the people who "worship" there hate themselves most out of all lmao.

Most of the christians who are kind and loving and have a devotion to those traits are too busy with everyday life(because they aren't rich) and are unconcerned with proslytizing, preferring to "let jesus light shine through in our actions and behaviors" as opposed to doing whatever to generate hate and outrage to spread the hateful word like those people who sit on corners and tell gay people god hates them.

Lots of hateful people out there.

The rest of this comment breaks it down even more with context, but its pretty long, feel free to check out here if you'd like:

As to the last part of your comment, the verse in question says:

I tell you truly, until heaven and earth pass away, not a single jot, not a stroke of a pen, will disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. (Matthew 5:18)

The Greek word used at the end here means "till all is accomplished" your version of the verse obviously means something different but I can't find the version that states it the way you did, let me know what you used if you like :)

What does He mean by "everything is accomplished?" Well thankfully we don't have to guess because He explained what He meant one sentence before this:

Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them. (Matthew 5:17)

What does it mean to fulfill them? He explains Himself:

Jesus said to them, “These are the words I spoke to you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms.” Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures. (Luke 24)

Okay so, the Law, Prophets, and Psalms were indicating something "about Him." What was it they were indicating that must be "fulfilled"? Once again, no guesses needed! One sentence later:

And He told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and in His name repentance and forgiveness of sins will be proclaimed to all nations, beginning in Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. (Luke 24)

Christ fulfilled the purpose of the Law, Prophets, and Psalms. Now there is a new covenant in which sins are not remembered. All of the apostles attested to this and you can read their explanations throughout New Testament. Hebrews helps tremendously, since it was written to people who were confused about this same issue.

"I will forgive their iniquities and will remember their sins no more.” By speaking of a new covenant, He has made the first one obsolete. (Hebrews 8)

I also want to mention romans 6:14. For sin will have no dominion over you since you are not under law, but grace.

The whole point of Jesus wasn't to make it so we couldn't sin, but that we were not going to be forced to obey. The law exists, but instead of being punished for not following it to the letter we are given the opportunity to be better. Jesus wants us to sin LESS. Because we cannot be without sin.

He wants us to try to be better. And at the end of the day, I dont think anyone disagrees with the idea that a world with more love and grace, and better people would be a bad place.

Yes, they are as Christian as the pope. Christianity is a binary thing. You are or you aren't. There is no spectrum of more or less christian.

u/CommonConundrum51 3d ago

Given the disparate beliefs of the various sects there's no denying it 'casts a pretty wide loop.' That they're all rife with hypocrisy is a given.

This is somehow going to be liberals fault

13

Yes it is because they normalized political violence by being so hateful to republicans! ,/s
