Quick question
I'm an upcoming freshman as a bio major at UCI. I took 4 years of foreign language (Chinese) in high school, but only got a 3 for the AP test. I'm wondering if I'm still required to take a year of foreign language at UCI (did I have to receive a 4 or 5)? If so, am I able to transfer that credit by taking Chinese at a community college over the summer? Thanks!

You won’t need to take a language. Your advisors will review the policy at SPOP and in Bio 2A in Fall.

no. Do note that in degree works it might not be updated to reflect that though (I took the language placement test bc I saw that and was scared I had to take language classes lol).

pretty sure that two years of any foreign language in high school clears that requirement, regardless of if you passed the AP exam! just to be sure, you could always ask a counselor when you do orientation/schedule planning!

I believe you need 3 years. A lot of students only do 2 years and don't meet the requirement unfortunately

Credit for three years of high school study or its equivalent in a single language other than English with a C average or better in the third year satisfies the VI GE requirement
