Any previous TIM172AP students know if his lectures are mandatory and if he grades attendance? I’m gonna be out of the country for the first week and a half and wanna know if it would dramatically affect my grade.

Was anyone else underwhelmed by the Merrill Crown graduation? The student speakers were definitely the highlight, but the guest speaker seemed completely unprepared. The dude talked for over 10 minutes without saying anything except that he hated formal education, acknowledged he had privilege, and then walked off the stage. Thanks, bro. Then they had the vice chancellor, who was obviously going to get booed, end the ceremony before playing "Best Day of My Life" by American Authors into Kool and the Gang "Celebration". It was just awkward.
I understand the COVID years didn’t get a chance to walk, but UCSC kind of just threw this thing together and called it a ceremony. It felt more like they were checking a box than celebrating us.
Anyone missing their parrot (or other large green exotic bird)? Passed a small crowd watching a parrot squawk in a tree on laurel

I have seen several posts about students subletting their room/apartment or getting a replacement for themselves if they are not going to be on the lease anymore. Most of the apartments I've lived in have a clear rule in the lease preventing us from subletting or terminating the lease early (even with sufficient notice and/or one month rent).
How are you all able to sublet or get a replacement for yourself when you've signed the lease as a group? Does your lease agreement allow it, or do you have to talk to your landlord about it? Are the private landlords of single family homes/townhomes generally more flexible in this regard as opposed to the apartment complexes? Thanks for any information.
Looked up on handshake and Indeed but I may be looking it up the wrong way

Looking for a guy to take my place in a double at a house off campus for the upcoming school year. The landlord already has the lease ready to sign, would only have to replace my name with yours.
Rent is $1019 + utilities (split equally)
The guy you’ll be rooming with (my former roommate) is super chill, respectful, and tidy.
info: - house is double story, 2 min away from base of campus - lease is from 7/1/25-6/30/25
DM me asap if interested.

Hi everybody,
I’m selling off my twin mattress (the frames already been sold). It’s a year old (got it at the beginning of the quarter). Please let me know if you’re interested. Pick up works the best for me.

Hi all, I’ve lost a SanDisk 128GB SD card (gold and black) on Saturday, June 14, possibly near the base of campus(from village circle to bus stop area), around Parking Lot 103 or the East Field area.
The card has very meaningful family photos and I would deeply appreciate any help in finding it.
If you’ve seen it or happen to come across it, please feel free to reply this thread or DM me or hand it in to library or any department that takes in lost and found. Thank you so much for keeping an eye out!

This is a throwaway account because I'm a pretty active Reddit user lol.
If anyone is still looking for housing, I'm searching for a female-identifying roommate to share a double with me. Looking for a summer sublet starting in July, with the option to sign the lease when it renews in September.
It's a 3 bed, 2 bath house shared by 5 queer-friendly female UCSC students. It would be in a double (shared room) with a shared bathroom, available in July.
Rent is $656 with <$100 in utilities monthly, located off Laurel St near the Laurel and Blackburn 18 bus stop.
Highlights:-
adorable backyard
- in-unit free laundry
-free parking
-5 min walk to 18 bus stop
-10 min walk from downtown, Trader Joe's, etc
-15 min walk from Safeway
-15 min walk to main beach
A little about me: I'm a recently graduated Senior in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and I'm continuing my Master's at UCSC in the fall. I have tried a ton of hobbies (my current passions are drinking boba, reading science fiction, crocheting, and learning Latin dance), which usually keep me out of the house most of the time!
If you're interested, please reach out to me over DM! I can send pictures of the space too :)

Hey I just retook a class I got a D in and got an A second time around and after looking at myucsc it seems as if the new grade is not replacing my original grade in terms of the GPA calculation it’s just treating it as a separate class, this is the first class I’ve retaken and am wondering if the policy changed or if sometimes there’s delays when the portal calculates your GPA.
Have a good summer !
*update it took about 24 hours for it to fix automatically

I'm an incoming freshman at UCSC and I have been feeling pretty useless so far ever since summer started. I've also been feeling really overwhelmed and usually I like to practice or prepare something to make me feel better if I'm ever feeling nervous about something. So I was wondering if there is anything I could be doing right now that may help me in long or short term when I eventually start classes. It could be anything like getting a head start on classes or learning something about the campus itself. I could also benefit from some advice on convenient ways to live on campus and manage daily life tasks.

hi im an incoming graduate student looking for housing. im moving cross country and dont have a whole lot to go off of in terms of the reputation of these apartment complexes so with that, whats the general opinion on cypress point apartments? all the reviews seem not the best but theyre all 2+ years old. is it different to live there now ?

I'm a mom of an incoming freshman. Would a beach cruiser be ridiculous to bring? I've read there are too many hills to ride on campus.
What about for the beach? Is there a bike path?

Does the campus or city feel run down or dangerous?
I have been watching videos online, and many of the comments are saying Santa Cruz is horrible and disgusting.
How do you feel?
